Chapter 719: Chapter 689: Astonishing Battle Record (Part 2)

“What’s wrong?” Lin Xinghai felt a little uneasy under their intense stares.

“It’s nothing,” Zuo Wenya said after a long moment of shock. “I just have to say, I can’t believe you’re still alive.”

At his side, Chen Yushi nodded in solemn agreement. Shortly after the battle began, Admiral Huo Feiteng had already passed the news about the “Shadow Demon” to the Divine Demon Realm experts.

And shortly after receiving that message, another report came in: more Divine Demon Realm experts had encountered the “Shadow Demon,” and the battle had ended with one dead and two severely wounded.

By the time other Divine Demon Realm experts arrived, the “Shadow Demon” had already escaped with a simple spatial jump.

It even forced the General Staff to temporarily adjust their strategy, dispatching a Divine Demon Realm expert with the ability to fly to form a temporary support team specifically to target this “Shadow Demon”.

But then, the “Shadow Demon” seemed to vanish. There hadn’t been any news of it attacking anyone else since.

Only now did the two of them realize that this “Shadow Demon” had actually died at Lin Xinghai’s hands.

While the two were still reeling, Lin Xinghai couldn’t help but ask, “Teacher, what exactly was that black figure? Why was it so terrifying?”

“That was a true ‘Shadow Demon’,” Zuo Wenya said.

“Shadow Demon?” Lin Xinghai was confused. It wasn’t as if he’d never killed a “Shadow Demon” before. ‘Those things are only good at Invisibility, and my Perception Power can detect them. If I really run into one, I feel like I could kill it easily.’

“Let me explain,” Zuo Wenya began, starting to reveal certain information to Lin Xinghai. “The Abyssal Plane has the 108 Royal Families, and they are its true main force. The one sent to kill you was a member of the ‘Shadow Demon’ Royal Family.”

Lin Xinghai was shocked, but it also made sense. He still had some questions, though.

“So the one that came to kill me was a real ‘Shadow Demon’. But I’ve encountered ‘Shadow Demons’ among the Mutated Zombies before. What are those, then?” Lin Xinghai asked curiously.

“We’re not sure. At the end of the day, we still know far too little about the Abyssal Plane. However, based on the information we currently have, we have a rough theory.”

“The ‘Shadow Demons’ we encountered before likely have very weak bloodlines. They haven’t awakened abilities like spatial jumping or Vaporization, so that part of their population was abandoned by the Shadow Demon Race,” Zuo Wenya explained.

Lin Xinghai nodded. But he quickly thought of something else and asked with confusion, “But the ‘Shadow Demon’ I met before was definitely a Mutated Zombie, because it had that rapid self-healing ability. The ‘Shadow Demon’ I just fought didn’t have that. Why is that?”

“We’d like to know that too.” Zuo Wenya glanced at Lin Xinghai and said helplessly, “Like I said, we know far too little about the Abyssal Plane. But once the situation here stabilizes and we launch the ‘Corpse-man Plan’, we won’t be so ignorant anymore.”

Lin Xinghai nodded, the pressure he felt mounting.

His mind was now filled with thoughts of the 108 Royal Families. ‘Just one of them, the Shadow Demon Race, is this difficult to handle. What about the other 107 Royal Families?’

‘All of those races probably have terrifying Talent Abilities. When they launch a full-scale invasion, how will humanity possibly defend itself?’

“Right,” Zuo Wenya said suddenly. “Walk me through the fight, in detail.”

Lin Xinghai immediately gave Zuo Wenya a detailed account of the entire battle.

When Zuo Wenya and Chen Yushi heard Lin Xinghai say his Thunderbolt Step could temporarily add 10,000 points to his Speed—and with his Superpower amplification, that could become 100,000 points—they both couldn’t help but gasp.

“If you hadn’t run into a monster like that ‘Shadow Demon’, they could have sent any number of Mutated Zombies to surround you, and you probably still would’ve escaped.” Zuo Wenya sighed, his understanding of his student’s survival skills reaching a new level.

Lin Xinghai just smiled at that and didn’t comment.

After a moment of thought, Zuo Wenya said, “According to your description, you used your Thunder God Spear for the first time when you killed the ‘Shadow Demon’. That ‘Giant Arm’ that escaped didn’t see it, right?”

“Right,” Lin Xinghai nodded.

“In that case, we have to keep this under wraps. I’ll have all the members of the Xinghai Squad sign confidentiality agreements later.”

“A Celestial Tier Technique is too important to reveal. If the Abyssal Plane only knows about your Thunderbolt Step, they might not figure it out. After all, their intelligence on you already says you excel at Speed, so they’d probably assume it’s a Secret Technique.”

“But if they find out about the Thunder God Spear, the Abyssal Plane will immediately realize we’ve found a way to obtain Celestial Tier Techniques. That would put us at a severe disadvantage,” Zuo Wenya said.

“Understood. I’ll follow your instructions, Teacher.” Lin Xinghai naturally had no objections.

Zuo Wenya immediately took out his wrist-mounted computer to report the news, especially regarding the “Shadow Demon.” This way, they wouldn’t have their hands tied dealing with a single Abyssal Creature.

The group talked as they traveled. They had already left the central zone and entered the outer perimeter.

Here, the green toxic fog grew even thinner, and they could see three or four hundred meters ahead with the naked eye.

To Lin Xinghai’s surprise, he saw that large numbers of regular soldiers had also entered the area and were engaged in combat with Abyssal Creatures.

“Teacher, what’s our current situation?” Lin Xinghai couldn’t help but ask.

“Things are going relatively smoothly for now. We have a definite advantage in the overall battle, so most of the students in the four Trap Districts have been successfully evacuated under the military’s cover.”

“Of course, I’m referring to the regular students. As for those on the Abyssal Plane’s kill list… it’s hard to say. The numbers haven’t been tallied, but we expect heavy casualties. After all, very few Body Shaping Realm Martial Artists can escape the pursuit of a Fourth Level Mutated Zombie.” As he spoke, Zuo Wenya’s expression grew somber.

However, he quickly composed himself and continued, “Aside from rescuing the gifted students, which fell short of our expectations, the military’s other two objectives should be accomplished without a hitch.”

“The first objective is to strike a major blow against the Fourth Level Mutated Zombies. Because we kept the God Creation Plan—the Divine Demon Realm experts who dropped in—a secret, we now have an advantage when it comes to top-tier power. After this purge, the initiative in this war should fall to the Military Department.”

“As for the second objective, it’s to lure out the Mutated Zombies they have hidden underground.”

“This is extremely important. If we don’t draw them out, the military will always have its hands tied, forced to keep a portion of its forces in reserve for any contingencies. But now, the Military Department can finally go all out,” Zuo Wenya said.

Lin Xinghai understood the first part of what Zuo Wenya said, but the rest surprised him. “Even with the military’s power, they can’t find the Mutated Zombies underground?”

“They can’t. The military once sent two Divine Demon Realm experts capable of Earth Escape to search, but… those two experts never returned.”

“That’s why the military concluded that the Abyssal Plane has an incredibly terrifying force hidden underground.”

“Can you imagine the consequences if that force wasn’t used on the main battlefield, but was sent to launch a sneak attack on our mid-sized Shelters?” Zuo Wenya asked, his expression grave.
