The Combat Robot soon confirmed that the enemy was dead, with very little of its body remaining after the bombardment. Only then did the group dare to approach and investigate.

“Boss, what kind of Mutated Zombie was that? It was terrifying,” Little Fatty asked, his voice still shaking with fear.

‘If Lin Xinghai hadn’t been here, our squad would have been wiped out. And it’s not just us—I don’t think any other squad could have handled a Mutated Zombie like that.’

‘I even doubt that a Divine Demon Realm expert could have taken it down.’

‘After all, that Vaporization ability was just too strange. Only Energy Attacks worked, and even their effectiveness was greatly diminished. Meanwhile, the creature could attack with its full strength. With us weakened and it at its peak, the gap between us would have been enormous.’

“Whoa, Boss, does that mean we made a new discovery? Will there be an extra reward?” Little Fatty’s mind immediately went to money.

Lin Xinghai shot him an exasperated look. “Get those thoughts out of your head. With the Military Department’s resources, there’s no way they haven’t encountered this type of Mutated Zombie before.”

“Alright,” Little Fatty said with a disappointed shrug.

Just then, Lin Xinghai crouched down and began examining the chunks of flesh on the ground, which had been charred by the explosion. A look of surprise appeared on his face.

“What is it, Boss?” Little Fatty asked, noticing Lin Xinghai’s expression.

“Something’s wrong with its flesh. The flesh of a Mutated Zombie contains a powerful vitality, which is what gives them their terrifying regenerative ability. This vitality can even persist for an hour or two after the Mutated Zombie dies. But look at these chunks of flesh—their vitality is completely gone.”

As Lin Xinghai explained, he turned his head to look at Liu Miaomiao behind him. “Miaomiao, is this because you drained its Life Force?”

“No. I did drain a lot of its Life Force, but it was only 20% of its total, at most. But now that you mention it, I do recall that its Life Force felt a little different from a Mutated Zombie’s.”

“The Life Force of a Mutated Zombie seems to have this super-strong vitality, but this dark figure’s didn’t. In fact, its vitality was even weaker than that of Ordinary Zombies. It was more like… an Abyssal Creature’s,” Liu Miaomiao said, pondering.

At this, Lin Xinghai’s eyes lit up. “That explains it. This dark figure probably wasn’t a Mutated Zombie, because it didn’t have a Zombie’s powerful self-healing ability. Looked at another way, this might be its weakness.”

“If it can’t regenerate quickly, then as long as we can find a way to restrain its spatial jumps, we could probably wear it down with Superpowers and artillery fire.”

Not all Abyssal Creatures possessed rapid Healing Abilities. To be precise, that was likely a unique ability of Zombies, which was why both Ordinary Zombies and Mutated Zombies had it.

But other Abyssal Creatures, like the Abyssal Corpse Ghost and the Petrifying Spider, were much stronger than Ordinary Zombies but lacked this powerful regenerative capacity.

The other Abyssal Creatures were probably the same. Perhaps every type of Abyssal Creature had its own unique and powerful abilities, but none of them possessed this self-healing.

As these thoughts crossed his mind, Lin Xinghai’s mood lightened considerably.

‘Even after killing the dark figure, I felt incredibly heavy-hearted. I knew just how terrifying such a creature was. If the Abyssal Plane was full of them, humanity wouldn’t stand a chance.’

‘But now, I could finally see a glimmer of hope.’

Just then, however, Little Fatty threw a wet blanket on the mood. “Uh, Boss, sorry to interrupt, but it has a spatial jump ability. Our squad has Qian Xingxiu to control it, but a Superpower like his is too rare. The creature can just run away if it’s losing.”

Lin Xinghai explained, “Actually, you don’t necessarily need a Control Ability to interrupt its spatial jump. Someone with a Space Superpower can do it too, as long as they time it right and disrupt the spatial fluctuations.”

“And while people with a Space Ability are few, they aren’t what I’d call rare. Of course, to pull this off, you’d probably need to reach its level of power—meaning it might only be possible once you reach the Divine Demon Realm.”

Among elite students like them, at least, Space Abilities weren’t too uncommon. Their own squad had two members with them: one with Space Compression and another with Space Vibration.

The Space Vibration Superpower, in particular, could definitely interrupt the creature’s jumps if used correctly.

While they were discussing this, Liu Miaomiao had already finished healing everyone’s injuries. Even for those who weren’t hurt, she would casually inject a stream of Life Force into their bodies.

Life Force had many uses beyond simply healing injuries. Nourished by it, various negative conditions like fatigue would also be rapidly alleviated.

The only unfortunate part, of course, was that they couldn’t retain the Life Force like Liu Miaomiao could, so they could only watch helplessly as it dissipated.

“Let’s go. We need to leave, now. We’re not out of danger yet,” Lin Xinghai urged, seeing that everyone’s condition had recovered.

Within the range of his Perception, two more Fourth Level Mutated Zombies were charging in their direction.

The group quickly boarded their vehicle. Little Fatty muttered, “It’s been three minutes. Why isn’t our backup here yet? Boss, didn’t you say Teacher Zuo and the others would arrive within a minute? If we had actually waited for them to rescue us, our corpses would be cold by now.”

Lin Xinghai didn’t say a word. ‘I don’t know what happened, either, but something must have gone wrong on Zuo Wenya’s end. Otherwise, his estimated arrival time wouldn’t have been so far off.’

‘But I have to admit, that was way too dangerous. If I had truly pinned my hopes on Zuo Wenya, we’d have been finished for real.’

After this incident, Lin Xinghai truly understood that his own strength was the only thing he could truly rely on.

With these thoughts in mind, the convoy quickly set off, continuing toward the outer perimeter.

After they had traveled another kilometer, Lin Xinghai suddenly breathed a quiet sigh of relief. Within his Perception range, two Divine Demon Realm experts, Zuo Wenya and Chen Yushi, were rapidly approaching.
