Chapter 1000: Chapter 1000: Don’t Be Nervous
Jiang Qi was shaken upon hearing these words, he took a deep breath, suppressing the unease in his heart, and solemnly said, "Elder Li’s teachings are right, Jiang Qi understands."
Elder Li’s words echoed through the grand hall, her tone was light, yet carried undeniable authority: "Ye Qingchen is just a boy with a bit of talent, like that incompetent master of his, neither are of good stock. If you can’t handle him, I will personally take action."
These words exploded like thunder in Jiang Qi’s ears.
He had thought Elder Li only knew a bit about Ye Qingchen, but he didn’t expect her to mention Ye Qingchen’s master. Jiang Qi’s heart skipped a beat, and he couldn’t help but display a look of confusion.
"Elder Li," Jiang Qi hesitated for a moment, his gaze filled with deep questions, his tone cautious, "Do you... know Ye Qingchen’s master?"
Although Jiang Qi is the Saint Heir of the Jiang Ancient Clan, he does not fully understand Elder Li’s background.
Ye Qingchen’s master had never revealed their identity before the world; Jiang Qi had only heard a bit, knowing this person is extremely mysterious.
But Elder Li’s tone clearly indicated she knew quite well about Ye Qingchen’s master, even with a tinge of disdain.
This raised countless questions in Jiang Qi’s mind.
He faintly felt that there was some unknown past between Elder Li and Ye Qingchen’s master.
But why did Elder Li hold such disdain for Ye Qingchen’s master? And how did she know them? These questions left Jiang Qi bewildered.
Elder Li’s gaze lingered on the puzzled expression of Jiang Qi, a complex light flickering in her eyes, as if lost in some ancient memories.
But soon, her deep eyes restored their usual calmness and authority.
"You need only know, Ye Qingchen’s master is nothing but a useless person of no true reputation," Elder Li said softly, her tone carrying a hint of coldness and disdain, as if unwilling to delve further, "Back then, he also arrogantly aimed to reach the pinnacle, but in the end, it was nothing but a joke."
Hearing this, Jiang Qi’s confusion did not lessen but grew stronger.
He could sense that the relationship between Elder Li and Ye Qingchen’s master was not simply acquaintance, but perhaps mixed with some old grudges or conflict.
Yet Elder Li clearly did not wish to talk more at this moment, and Jiang Qi dared not press further, only able to temporarily suppress his questions.
Though there remained many puzzles in his heart, Jiang Qi still respectfully nodded, responding in a low voice, "Elder Li is correct, Jiang Qi understands. I will do my utmost to deal with Ye Qingchen, and won’t give him any chances."
Elder Li smiled faintly, a slight coldness in her eyes: "Remember, the family’s interest is the most important. Ye Qingchen is merely a clown not worth our concern. Should he dare provoke again, I will show him what true power is."
Jiang Qi felt the resolution and domineering aura in Elder Li’s words, deepening his feeling of reverence. He took a deep breath, once again clasping his fists, his tone firm: "Jiang Qi will certainly remember Elder Li’s teachings and will not let the family suffer disgrace."
Elder Li nodded, her gaze resting on Jiang Qi for a moment, as if weighing his ability to truly shoulder this burden. A moment later, she withdrew her gaze and softly said, "Take care, Jiang Qi."
Jiang Qi bowed low again, respectfully seeing Elder Li off. Her figure gradually disappeared into the shadows of the grand hall, leaving behind a profound silence.
Only after Elder Li completely left did Jiang Qi straighten up, his gaze filled with complex thoughts.
Ye Qingchen and Xiao Xiao, after applying facial disguise, walked side by side down the street of the Jiang Ancient Clan.
By this time, they had already donned entirely new appearances. Ye Qingchen’s originally handsome visage became rugged and simple, bushy eyebrows, skin slightly tanned, like a middle-aged man who’d been traveling for years.
And Xiao Xiao no longer appeared as the charming and pleasing young girl; her face was disguised into that of an ordinary woman, with slightly drooping eye corners, skin a bit sallow, looking utterly unremarkable.
The two wore plain clothes, resembling a common rural couple, drawing no attention.
The atmosphere on the street was tense and solemn. The pedestrians moving to and fro were sparse, each person’s expression carrying traces of vigilance and unease, as if constantly worrying about being checked.
Most shops along the street were tightly shut, only a few remained in business, but the front was also deserted, business slack.
In the center of the street, Jiang Ancient Clan’s soldiers patrolled back and forth, their armor glinting coldly in the sunlight.
These soldiers were all tall and strong, their faces serious, holding spears or swords, their eyes sharp as hawks, seemingly ready to strike at any moment.
They divided into teams, constantly patrolling the sides of the street, stopping every few steps to question passing pedestrians.
"Stop! Lift your face!" a soldier barked coldly, halting a hurried passerby.
The passerby raised his head in terror, trembling hands offering his identity token, the soldier glanced coldly before signaling him to leave.
On this street, the air was filled with tension and oppression, as though everyone was always awaiting some unforeseen event.
The surrounding buildings were tall and grand, engraved with ancient patterns, yet in this tense atmosphere appeared particularly cold.
Ye Qingchen and Xiao Xiao mingled in the crowd, walking forward with lowered heads, cautiously. Their strides were steady, but each step was extremely careful, fearing attracting the soldiers’ attention.
They avoided the soldiers’ gaze, sticking close to the sides of the street, as if they were truly just a rural couple in town for business.
"Don’t look up, stay close," Ye Qingchen advised Xiao Xiao in a low voice, his tone carrying some tension.
Xiao Xiao nodded gently, following closely behind Ye Qingchen, striving to appear composed and natural.
But her heartbeat quickened a bit, for though their facial disguise was exquisite, in such a highly vigilant atmosphere, any mistake could lead to exposure.
The two continued walking forward, not far ahead another team of soldiers was conducting checks.
A trace of gravity flashed in Ye Qingchen’s eyes, he slightly slowed his pace, his gaze quickly scanning around, seeking possible escape routes.
However, flanked by towering buildings on both sides, no paths provided avoidance, forcing them to continue moving forward with steel resolve.
The soldiers’ eyes were like torches, coldly scrutinizing each passerby.
Ye Qingchen and Xiao Xiao slowly approached the team of soldiers, feeling increasingly nervous, as though being ordered to stop at any moment.
"It’s okay, just be calm, don’t show any flaws." Ye Qingchen continuously reassured himself inwardly, maintaining a composed pace.
He knew at this critical moment, any anomaly could draw deadly danger.
