Chapter 774: Chapter 704: Flower and Squirrel

From behind, Tu Xiao’an watched Feng Linjie disappear into the Light Sect. The man hadn’t tried any tricks. Tu Xiao’an snorted coldly to himself.

’At least he’s sensible enough not to ask for trouble.’

’Ziyan, I’m coming. Wait for me.’

With that thought, Tu Xiao’an suddenly charged toward the Light Sect and vanished.

SKREE SKREE SKREE...!

The Skeleton Monster let out a few strange cries and followed him in.

After Tu Xiao’an entered the Light Sect, his vision first went black, then filled with light.

"Milord!"

Feng Linjie’s voice called out.

Tu Xiao’an glanced at Feng Linjie before turning to look around. He was surprised to find that the so-called Light Sect was, in fact, just a natural cave entrance.

The entire entrance was formed from pale-green stone, showing no signs of being chiseled by hand.

What was surprising was that from the inside it was a cave entrance, but from the outside, it was a gate of fluctuating Energy—the Light Sect.

’Is this just for show?’

’Trying to make it look all high-and-mighty?’

As the Skeleton Monster appeared beside him, Tu Xiao’an looked at Feng Linjie. "So this is the War Relics?"

Feng Linjie said, "Milord, this is just the periphery. The so-called War Relics is actually a massive cave residence."

"A cave residence?" Tu Xiao’an’s eyes lit up. ’That makes sense. Dean Wang Bo said that many Ancient Ruins were once the homes of Ancient Demons.’

Feng Linjie added, "Based on my speculation, the large area ahead is the forward defensive position for the cave residence. It’s teeming with monsters, and they’re all extremely powerful. You must be careful, Milord."

Tu Xiao’an gave him a pointed look. ’So cooperative all of a sudden?’

’He’s even pretending to be concerned about me?’

In truth, Feng Linjie had no other choice. Now that they were inside, his only option was to latch onto Tu Xiao’an for protection.

If Tu Xiao’an died too easily, he’d be left isolated and vulnerable.

"Keep leading the way," Tu Xiao’an said flatly.

Feng Linjie’s face contorted with anger. ’Dammit, is he using me as a human shield?’

’We’re already inside, and he’s still making me lead the way. If we run into a monster, I’ll be the first one it attacks.’

’So I’m just the cannon fodder, is that it?’

"What are you standing around for? Get a move on." Tu Xiao’an felt like kicking him. The man was so unmotivated; he had to be pushed to do anything.

If it weren’t for the fact that he was a High Rank War God, a title that demanded some respect, Tu Xiao’an would have started cursing him out.

Feng Linjie knew he had to bow to circumstances. He could only creep cautiously deeper into the cave, his footsteps completely silent.

Tu Xiao’an watched him and shook his head. He truly didn’t understand how someone like this had managed to reach the level of a High Rank War God through Cultivation.

’No backbone at all.’

’Is it really that terrifying in here?’

As they ventured deeper into the cave, their surroundings became pitch-black, without a single ray of light.

But this posed no obstacle for either Tu Xiao’an or Feng Linjie.

At their Realm of power, their eyes had long been able to see in the dark.

This was even less of an issue for the Skeleton Monster. It didn’t even have eyes, but that didn’t slow it down one bit.

The cave was not only pitch-black but also extremely long and narrow. After walking for what felt like a quarter of an hour, Tu Xiao’an still saw no sign of an end, nor had they encountered any monsters. He began to have his doubts, wondering if Feng Linjie had led him to the wrong place.

This place didn’t feel like War Relics. It was more like the lair of some apex monster.

The journey was monotonous; not a single monster had jumped out to attack them. Seeing Feng Linjie still tiptoeing around, Tu Xiao’an said, "Hey, can’t you use a Body Technique to speed things up? At this pace, how much time do you think I have to waste?"

"Milord, keep your voice down! We should try not to disturb the monsters here until we reach the true entrance to the War Relics."

Feng Linjie whispered, making a shushing gesture.

"’The true entrance?’" Tu Xiao’an could only follow along patiently.

Fortunately, after they had walked for over a thousand meters, a sharp bend appeared ahead. Several wisps of white light faintly shone from around the corner, promising an end to the darkness.

’Are we there?’

Seeing this, Tu Xiao’an’s heart lifted. ’Since there’s light, the cave residence of the ruins must be just ahead.’

Unfortunately, his joy was premature. Ahead was indeed the end of the cave tunnel—the first step of their journey was complete—but the cave residence of the ruins was not there.

Instead, the tunnel opened into a spacious natural stone chamber. It was filled with numerous glittering stalactites, creating a magnificent and dazzling sight.

In the deepest part of the chamber, Tu Xiao’an also noticed a small, pale-green flower with a single stem and a few leaves growing on a patch of purple stone wall.

A single glance was enough to tell him that this little flower was no ordinary plant. The surrounding Spiritual Qi was dense, seemingly on the verge of boiling.

This was definitely not one of the common Heavenly and Earthly Treasures.

SKREE SKREE SKREE...!

The Skeleton Monster cried out the moment it saw the flower. It began pointing and jumping up and down, though what it was trying to express was unclear.

The strange flower was about an inch tall. Its dozen or so petals were all curiously curled in the same direction, combining to form a unique shape. From a distance, it looked just like a lively, adorable little squirrel perched there with its tail raised, an astonishing sight.

It was like a sculpture made of flowers.

’What kind of Heavenly and Earthly Treasure is this flower? It’s so unique.’

Amazed, Tu Xiao’an walked over and reached out a hand. Feng Linjie immediately shouted, "Milord, don’t touch it! That’s not a flower, it’s a guardian Exotic Beast!"

"Exotic Beast?" Tu Xiao’an was momentarily bewildered, but his hand had already touched a petal of the strange flower.

In that instant, the entire natural stone chamber began to shake violently, as if struck by an earthquake.

The petals of the strange flower began to glow brightly. Seeing that things were going south, Tu Xiao’an abruptly retreated. ’Did I trigger some kind of trap?’

Just then, the glowing petals and the strange flower itself vanished, transforming into a beam of light that shot to the ground.

Hm?

Tu Xiao’an’s pupils contracted. The Skeleton Monster shrieked in terror, and Feng Linjie’s expression turned even grimmer.

A moment later, a small squirrel, its fur whiter than snow, appeared on the ground. It blinked its crimson eyes and stared at Tu Xiao’an and the others.

"We’re in trouble. The guardian monster has awakened."

Feng Linjie’s face was a mask of utter despair.

"Wow, what a cute squirrel!" Tu Xiao’an, in contrast, had sparkling eyes, dumbfounded by the amazing scene.

’So it can do that?’

The strange flower that looked like a squirrel had disappeared and turned into a real one.

Its tiny, cute, and cuddly appearance was just adorable. Any woman would surely squeal with infatuation at the sight of it.

"Milord, this is a Purple Pine Beast."

With a grim expression, Feng Linjie explained, "According to the Ancient Texts, a squirrel born of heaven and earth once came into existence alongside a strange purple flower. They complemented one another. One day, a celestial phenomenon occurred: a bolt of Divine Thunder descended upon the purple flower. The spiritually-aware squirrel, in order to protect the flower, took the full force of the Divine Thunder with its body and was shattered to pieces. But the squirrel’s soul entered the flower’s petals, causing it to mutate into this—a Purple Pine Beast."

"When I came in here before with Brother Qin and the others, we saw this flower. None of us dared to touch it." Feng Linjie gave Tu Xiao’an a reproachful look.

’But you? You touched it the moment you saw it. Do you think this place is your private garden?’

’That nothing’s forbidden?’

’The legendary Purple Pine Beast is no ordinary Exotic Beast. It’s a creature of great status.’

’They only appear in places like these Ancient War Ruins.’
