Chapter 249: A Sword Token!
Chapter 249: A Sword Token!
For a moment, Li Yun stood there silently, looking at Xue Ming’s corpse. Then he let out a faint sigh and shook his head.
The road of martial arts had never been peaceful.
It was a path paved with bloodshed, struggle, and endless slaughter.
No one could climb to the summit of martial arts without stepping over countless dangers and enemies.
This would not be the last killing in his life.
On the contrary, such battles would only become more frequent as he continued forward.
But Li Yun felt no fear.
He stretched out his hand, and Xue Ming’s storage ring flew into his palm.
After sending a thread of qi into it, the ring opened. Inside were several gold cards, a large number of mid-grade spirit stones, many medicinal pills, and various other treasures and miscellaneous items.
“A respectable harvest.”
Li Yun put away the storage ring, and his gaze soon shifted toward the room entrance behind Xue Ming.
Just as he had expected, a defensive intent barrier had been placed at the doorway. Xue Ming had clearly been trying to break through it before Li Yun arrived.
Li Yun stepped forward and released both his Lightning Intent and Sword Intent together.
Under the force of his combined intents, the defensive barrier quickly shattered.
He entered the room.
Like the previous chambers he had explored, this room also contained a long stone table placed at its center.
Resting in the middle of that table was a sword-shaped token.
“A sword token?”
Li Yun frowned slightly as he approached.
The moment he reached out and touched it, an overwhelming surge of sword intent exploded from the token.
Bang!
The force sent him flying backward like a leaf caught in a storm.
His body smashed heavily into the wall behind him, creating a small crater in the stone.
“Holy hell!”
Li Yun rose to his feet, his eyes filled with shock. The pressure contained within that sword intent was beyond anything he had ever encountered.
It was vast, boundless, and terrifyingly profound.
Compared to it, his own sword intent felt like nothing more than a drop of water before an endless ocean.
“This sword intent…” Li Yun stared at the token, unable to hide his astonishment.
“It makes my own sword intent seem insignificant.”
A sudden thought flashed through his mind, and his breathing slowed.
“Could this be the key to the Sword Master’s Legacy?”
He could not be certain about many things, but one fact was undeniable.
The sword token before him carried an aura that felt deeply connected to the inheritance he had been searching for.
Without question, this token was no ordinary treasure.
Just as Li Yun was still reeling from the shock of the sword token’s overwhelming power, the sound of calm, measured footsteps echoed into the chamber.
A figure entered the room.
It was Mu Lan.
Li Yun’s brows furrowed slightly as he saw her. For a moment, he wondered whether she had also come for the sword token.
Mu Lan glanced at him, still standing near the shattered section of wall where he had been thrown, and spoke in an even tone.
“You should give up on that sword token. I arrived here some time ago and tried every method I could think of, but I was unable to take it.”
She shook her head lightly, her expression calm but serious.
“I believe only someone who has truly stepped into the Essence Qi Realm and possesses very high mastery over sword intent could claim it. We are simply too weak for it at this stage.”
“I see.”
Li Yun nodded slowly.
“I came to the same conclusion. I only tried touching it once, and it blasted me away.”
Mu Lan gave a faint nod, but then her eyes narrowed as another thought crossed her mind.
“Did you kill Xue Ming?”
When she had entered the chamber, she had seen Xue Ming’s corpse lying outside. At first, she had assumed that someone like Shi Mo, or perhaps Han Li and Han Xue, had defeated him and entered before her. That was why she had been surprised to find only Li Yun inside.
Li Yun merely shrugged.
“I do not know who killed him. By the time I arrived here, he was already dead.”
Mu Lan looked at him in silence, her brows drawing together slightly. She could not tell whether Li Yun was telling the truth or lying.
In the end, she let the matter go.
Xue Ming was not a disciple of Ice God Valley, and his death had nothing to do with her.
Instead, her expression turned serious.
“Be careful in this tomb.” Her voice grew lower as she continued. “I have a feeling the owner of this tomb may have been a demonic martial artist from the Iron Blood Sect. I have already found several demonic cultivation arts inside.”
“The tomb of an Iron Blood Sect demonic cultivator?” Li Yun’s eyes widened in shock.
He had never expected such a possibility.
Until now, he had assumed this was simply the inheritance tomb of a powerful martial artist in the Heavenly Core Realm. The revelation that it might belong to a demonic cultivator from the Iron Blood Sect changed his entire perspective of the tomb in his mind.
“Yes.”
Mu Lan gave him one last look before turning toward the exit.
“Farewell.”
With those words, she calmly left the chamber.
Only after her figure disappeared did Li Yun quietly let out a breath of relief.
Then his gaze returned to the sword token resting upon the stone table.
Just because Mu Lan believed it could not be taken by people at their level did not mean he was willing to give up.
He had come all the way to Red Cloud County because of the clues leading to the Sword Master’s Legacy.
And now that he had finally found something so closely tied to it, there was no way he would abandon it simply because it was difficult to obtain.
“The last time, I reached for it without using any intent at all.”
Li Yun narrowed his eyes as he studied the token carefully.
“This time, I will use my sword intent.”
His expression turned resolute. No matter how difficult it was, he intended to try again.
