Chapter 732: Chapter 725: Weight

’So it really is this guy?’

’The "Balance" actually wants to activate on its own?’

’If this thing wasn’t activating itself, wouldn’t I lose half my life every time I tried to start it up manually?’

Lono muttered to himself. He could finally confirm that the disturbance from the "Balance" on the back of his hand was indeed caused by this seemingly weak candidate in front of him.

And now, it seemed to be more than just a simple disturbance. The "Balance" was showing signs of activating and starting up on its own.

’Holy hell...’

Even in his long life, a situation like this had only occurred a few times.

The object hidden within the fissure on the back of his hand wasn’t actually a manifestation of his abilities. Rather, it was something he had obtained when his Power was still low, after accidentally falling into a strange True Realm Wonder.

This unknown object had invaded the back of his hand, becoming a part of his body. It had even fused with his very essence and True Origin.

Even if he cut off and destroyed his entire arm, the object would reappear in the same place and take on the same form when the arm grew back.

At first, he was worried and horrified by this foreign object that had bizarrely fused with his essence. After a while, however, he discovered that it didn’t seem to cause him any harm—at least, not for the time being.

Furthermore, this object possessed a certain, almost magical ability.

It seemed to be able to sense "destiny."

Of course, this ability seemed limited to himself and his immediate surroundings, and its predictive power was also quite limited.

For example, when he encountered a critical turning point that could affect his own destiny, the object would create a slight "disturbance."

Beyond that, there were no further hints.

How he should act, what choices he should make to steer the event toward a positive outcome for his destiny—all of that was up to him to judge and decide.

It could turn out badly, or it could turn out well.

But even so, this ability had been a tremendous help. The fact that he was able to rise from a being of a low level civilization to become a Black Lotus Steward of the Primordial Star Organization in such a short time wasn’t just due to his own Talent.

And in the several centuries he had lived with this object, he had encountered some special situations.

For example, during certain key events, the object would enter a fully activated state. At those times, he could even directly compare the "weight of destiny" held by himself versus the corresponding events, lives, and objects.

Of course, this ability only appeared passively on rare occasions. If he needed to activate it intentionally, the price he’d have to pay would cost him half his life, even with his current strength.

He had named this object the "Scales of Fate."

This was also his greatest hidden secret.

And after he had advanced to become a Peak of Type Two being and a Steward of the Primordial Star Organization, the Scales of Fate hadn’t shown such a disturbance for a very long time.

This was because, in this Star Realm, his Power and status already allowed him to control his own destiny to a certain extent.

In other words, beings with a greater weight of destiny than his were becoming increasingly rare.

’Since the Balance has entered an activated state on its own, let’s just see how much weight your destiny truly holds.’

The Black Lotus Steward narrowed his eyes slightly and slowly placed the hand with the fissure behind his back.

Then, WHOOSH!!

The fissure on the back of his hand suddenly burst open.

A pale green, chilling pupil with an "∞" shaped pattern appeared within the fissure.

It stared out at the world, indifferent and calm, like the eye of a God peeking at all of creation. ℯℯ𝑙.

And as Lono activated the Scales of Fate, a faint green light veiled his blood-red eyes.

In that instant, he seemed to glimpse a gigantic set of scales.

He was on one side of the balance, and on the other was Zhou Yuanjue.

This balance seemed capable of comparing the weight of destiny of the beings on either side.

Just then, Zhou Yuanjue, who was standing opposite him, also seemed to sense something strange. He couldn’t quite put his finger on it, but he knew the Black Lotus Steward across from him was using some kind of method to scrutinize him.

Then, he saw the handsome face of the Black Lotus Steward suddenly change. His entire body abruptly staggered, and he stumbled back two steps out of nowhere before regaining his footing.

"?"

Seeing the Black Lotus Steward’s state, a question mark slowly formed over Zhou Yuanjue’s head.

’What’s going on? How can a powerhouse said to be capable of destroying a Star System not even stand steady on his feet?’

At that moment, the Black Lotus Steward quickly exited the Scales of Fate’s state. The pale green eye on the back of his hand slowly closed. His gaze toward Zhou Yuanjue was uncontrollably complex, its mixture of emotions hard to define.

However, he quickly reigned in this emotion. He saw the odd expression on Zhou Yuanjue’s face and instantly understood his own loss of composure, remembering the other party’s status.

’I’m a dignified Steward of the Primordial Star Organization, a Peak of Type Two powerhouse, for crying out loud. How am I supposed to maintain my reputation if word gets out that I couldn’t even stand steady in front of a candidate?’

"Ahem. Good. You’re very good."

Lono regained his footing, gave a dry cough, and put on a stern expression with his handsome face, trying to look imposing.

"?"

Zhou Yuanjue still looked at him, completely baffled, with no idea what the man was talking about.

"Mm, let’s end today’s assessment meeting here. You can go back first and wait for my notification."

Seeing Zhou Yuanjue’s expression, Lono’s face twitched slightly. He simply turned around with his hands behind his back, pretending to look at the scenery outside the window.

He felt that he needed some time to recover.

"..."

Zhou Yuanjue gave Lono’s back another baffled glance and was about to turn and walk out of the Light Sect.

"Wait. Don’t let anyone know what happened here. This is a secret between us."

Lono said suddenly.

"Understood."

Zhou Yuanjue replied before stepping completely through the Light Sect and disappearing.

’How could it be... so heavy...’

Just now, Zhou Yuanjue’s side of the Scales of Fate had slammed to the bottom, which was what made him lose his balance and stagger.

He had never encountered a situation like this before.

’When did my own weight become so light? What on earth is the background of that candidate?’

’Should I give him this special recruitment spot or not?’

’With a weight of this magnitude, is interacting with him a blessing or a curse?’

Gazing at the panoramic view of the Gena Continent outside the window, Lono fell into a deep and profound contemplation.

He only snapped out of his reverie when his secretary, Dorona, re-entered the captain’s quarters.

"Sir, how did it go? Have you made a decision?"

Dorona asked curiously.

"A little later, notify Mr. Modin that the kid passed his special recruitment assessment."

Lono took a deep breath, as if he had just made an extremely important decision.
