Investing in the Three Villainesses Gives Me Infinite Returns
Chapter 70: If You Are Doing It, Then Do It Right
Monica stared at the tiny green flame flickering above Elias’s joined palms; her blue eyes widened to their limits as disbelief slowly replaced every other thought in her mind.
Healing magic was one of the most difficult branches of the arcane, and even talented mages usually required years of practice before they could manipulate life essence with enough precision to produce a stable healing spell. Yet Elias had managed to cast Heal within only three hours.
That alone would have been astonishing, but what truly left Monica speechless was the fact that Elias had never cast a spell before today.
He wasn’t some experienced mage who had secretly concealed his abilities from everyone.
He had awakened his mind’s eye only hours ago.
He had never studied the arcane.
He had never practiced spellcasting.
And yet, after understanding the structure of his own life flame and repeatedly attempting to reproduce it, he had actually succeeded.
Monica’s eyes narrowed as she studied him.
’Could he really have been this talented all along?’
The thought made her expression complicated.
Perhaps Elias had simply chosen the wrong path.
Maybe he had never been meant to become a swordsman.
Maybe he was supposed to be a mage.
The possibility seemed ridiculous when she considered everything she knew about him, yet the tiny green flame hovering above his hands was undeniable proof that something about Elias was far from ordinary.
However, Monica’s conclusion was completely wrong.
Elias hadn’t mastered Healing magic through some hidden arcane talent that had been waiting to awaken.
His extraordinary progress was the result of everything he had accumulated through the system.
His increased Perception and Comprehension allowed him to understand the structure of the life flame with extraordinary precision, while his increased Mana and A-grade Mana Aptitude made manipulating the energy considerably easier.
More importantly, his A-grade Unbreakable Will allowed him to remain calm and continue experimenting even after repeated failures.
Repetition was, after all, the mother of learning.
Without those advantages, reproducing a life flame would have taken Elias several weeks, perhaps even months or years.
Instead, he had simply possessed the right combination of abilities to make the impossible look easy.
Elias stared proudly at the tiny green flame resting above his palms.
The flame flickered gently, its soft green light illuminating his fingers.
Then an orange screen appeared before his eyes.
[The host has learned a new skill!]
[Heal (B)]
Elias’s eyes brightened.
’Oh?’
His smile widened as he looked at the notification, and after dismissing it, he turned toward Monica.
"Thanks for helping me," he said sincerely.
Monica nodded, although she remained too stunned to produce an immediate response.
The green flame disappeared from Elias’s hands as he straightened his body and rose from the floor.
"I have to go take care of something," he said.
Monica finally recovered enough to give him an amused look.
"So you came to me just because you wanted something from me," she said, her voice carrying a teasing edge.
"How convenient of you to have a literal mine of arcane knowledge, no?"
An embarrassed expression immediately appeared on his face, and he rubbed the back of his neck before mumbling, "I also wanted to check on you."
Monica’s cheeks reddened slightly.
"Is that so..." she said softly.
She quickly noticed her own reaction and turned her face toward the window before adding, "Go and do whatever those who can move their limbs do."
Elias frowned slightly as he looked at her.
He had wanted to use Heal on her, but he already understood that the spell couldn’t solve her condition.
Monica’s problem wasn’t simply an injury that could be repaired through the restoration of life essence. The poison inside her body remained the fundamental cause of her suffering, and until that poison could be removed or neutralized, healing her damaged body would accomplish very little.
Unfortunately, Elias had no way of doing that yet.
Neither he nor Monica knew the true nature of the poison inside her, and even the elders of the Mage Tower had failed to discover a method of curing it.
Elias remained silent for another moment before finally turning toward the door.
He glanced once more at the back of Monica’s head before walking out of her room.
The door closed behind him.
Inside the quiet room, Monica remained staring toward the window for several seconds before her disbelief returned.
She slowly lowered her gaze and muttered, "What kind of monster did I get married to...?"
---
Elias silently walked through the manor, his footsteps echoing softly through the corridors as he made his way toward the basement.
His expression gradually became colder as he remembered the reason he had gone there.
The two members of the Outer Night Watch had crossed a line by coming to his manor and threatening Benjamin, and although Elias had already knocked them unconscious, he still wasn’t done with them.
When he reached the basement, however, he was surprised to find Benjamin already standing before the door.
The old butler’s expression was unusually dark, and his hands were clasped behind his back as he waited for Elias.
Elias stopped before him.
"What are you intending to do, my lord?" Benjamin asked.
Elias glanced toward the basement door before answering calmly.
"It appears words alone are not enough, so I have to use my hands," he said.
Benjamin remained silent for several seconds before stepping aside.
Elias placed his hand against the door and pushed it open.
The cold basement air immediately brushed against his face.
Trons and Part lay unconscious on the stone floor where Elias had left them.
Trons’s severed arm had been placed on a wooden table in the corner, and beside it rested several tools that had not been there earlier, including metal restraints, clamps, and other instruments that could be used to force information from someone who refused to cooperate.
Elias’s gaze lingered on the equipment for a moment before turning toward Benjamin.
The old butler met his eyes without hesitation.
"If you are doing it, then do it right, my lord," Benjamin said quietly.
Elias looked at the two unconscious knights again before giving a small nod.
