Investing In Overlooked Women: I Get Cashback On Every Glow-Up
Chapter 123: After Night....
I stepped out into the cool night air, leaving the warm hum and clinking champagne flutes of LUMEN behind me.
Durev was practically hyperventilating on the sidewalk, his expensive tuxedo jacket rumpled, his hair in disarray, and two of my security guards holding him just far enough back from the entrance to keep him from making a scene inside.
I reached inside my coat, pulled out the thick leather folder containing the formal court summons and the sealed evidence dossier, and walked up to him with unhurried, measured steps.
"What... what is this?" Durev rasped, his eyes wide and bloodshot as I pressed the heavy document directly against his chest.
"Your official court summons," I said softly, my voice smooth as ice. "A federal lawsuit for corporate fraud, intentional sabotage, and libel. We have the basement security footage from Tokyo Therapy House, Durev. High-definition, timestamped, showing you personally swapping those contaminated wagyu labels to frame Patricia."
Durev went completely rigid, his face draining of what little color he had left.
"We’re suing for full restitution of her $1.08 million settlement, plus an additional five million in punitive damages for defamation and loss of career earnings," I continued, leaning in just close enough so only he could hear me. "By 9:00 AM tomorrow, this footage will be on the desk of every major news desk and health board in the country. You’re not just going bankrupt, Durev—you’re going to prison."
Before he could even open his mouth to sputter a response, the heavy glass doors of Ocean Front swung open.
A crowd of his most prominent, high-net-worth patrons—led by the furious tech mogul and two of the city’s top culinary critics—marched down the steps and confronted him right on the pavement. Cameras flashed wildly as independent reporters caught every single second on film.
"Durev!" the mogul barked, shoving his way past the security perimeter. "You served us raw, spoiled garbage, lied about Olden Mante heading your kitchen, and humiliated every person who bought a table tonight!"
"I want a full, immediate refund for my ten-person party," a high-society heiress demanded, pointing a manicured finger at his face. "If my money isn’t back in my account by morning, my attorneys will be joining this lawsuit."
"This is an absolute embarrassment!" the lead critic shouted, typing furiously into his phone. "Ocean Front is getting a zero-star review. Your reputation in this city is dead!"
Durev stood there completely surrounded—trapped between the furious crowd demanding their money back, the flashing cameras capturing his public breakdown, and the legal dossier heavy in his trembling hands.
He looked down the strip toward LUMEN. Through the crystal-clear glass, Patricia was calmly leading her kitchen in total harmony, while Olden Mante laughed and raised a glass in her honor surrounded by a packed room of the city’s true elite.
Durev was totally, completely finished.
I gave him one last, calm smile, turned my back on his collapse, and walked back into the warmth of Patricia’s restaurant to enjoy the rest of the night.
The energy inside LUMEN stayed electric until the early hours of the morning. Every single table was packed, the wine flowed endlessly, and dish after dish left the pass looking like an absolute work of art. Sitting beside Olden at the main table, dining on the finest food in the city while watching Durev’s former patrons completely lose their minds over Patricia’s talent, made every single dollar and every calculated move worth it.
When the final dessert tickets cleared the pass, the dining room erupted into a spontaneous standing ovation. High-society elites, harsh critics, and billionaire investors were literally rising from their chairs, demanding to meet the mastermind behind the line.
Patricia stepped out from the glass showroom, wiping her hands on her apron, her face glowing with genuine, breathless shock at the applause filling the room.
A prominent city critic raised his glass toward her. "Chef Patricia! This isn’t just a meal—this is the greatest culinary experience this city has seen in a decade! How did you pull off a night like this?"
Patricia smiled, but instead of soaking up the glory alone, she raised her hands and gestured back toward the line.
"I didn’t do this alone," Patricia said, her voice rich with true humility. "Every single plate that hit your tables tonight was executed by the most dedicated, brilliant kitchen brigade on this coast—Matt, Elena, and our entire line crew."
The crowd cheered louder as the line cooks beamed from behind the pass. But Patricia wasn’t done. She turned her gaze across the room, locking eyes directly with me at table one.
"And none of this... not this restaurant, not this team, and not this night... would exist without one person," she added, her eyes softening as she pointed right toward my chair. "The man who believed in this vision before the foundation was even poured."
Instantly, the entire room turned around. Heads swiveled, murmurs rippled through the high-society crowd, and dozens of influential eyes locked onto me, practically asking in unison: Who is that guy?
I didn’t say a word. I didn’t need to.
I just leaned back comfortably in my seat, a calm, razor-sharp smile playing on my lips. I picked up my crystal wine glass, catching Olden’s eye as he raised his own glass beside me with a knowing, silent smirk.
Clink.
We tapped our glasses together, taking a slow sip as the room continued to buzz around us. Durev was ruined, Patricia was crowned the new queen of the city’s culinary world, and I was just sitting in the shade, enjoying the sweet, undisputed taste of total victory.
As the last of the laughter faded and the heavy glass entrance doors finally clicked shut, the bustling room fell into a deep, peaceful quiet. The soft ambient lighting reflected off the pristine alabaster stone, and the distant, rhythmic sound of ocean waves echoed against the glass.
The brigade had finished scrubbing down the kitchen to a spotless shine and headed out for the night, leaving just the two of us standing in the center of the showroom floor.
Patricia leaned back against the main pass, her apron removed, looking thoroughly exhausted but completely radiant. She took a deep, grounding breath, holding two glasses of vintage champagne, and handed one over to me.
"That was... absolutely awesome," she whispered, her voice filled with a mix of utter relief and unshakeable pride. "Ethan, we actually did it."
"We did," I said, stepping up beside her and taking a glass. "You didn’t just open a restaurant tonight, Patricia. You rewrote the entire hierarchy of this strip."
She looked out over the empty dining room, a soft, genuine smile touching her lips as she tapped her champagne flute gently against mine.
"When Durev framed me... when I lost my reputation and my kitchen... I thought my career was over," she said softly, looking up at me with raw gratitude in her eyes. "You didn’t just give me a new kitchen. You gave me back my life, my confidence, and my pride. I will never forget what you did for me."
"You earned every single bit of this with your own hands," I replied smoothly, taking a slow sip. "Olden taught you, I set the stage, but those dishes came from you. Durev is facing federal fraud charges, his venue is dead, and LUMEN is the biggest hit in the city."
Patricia laughed—a light, free sound that she hadn’t made in months—and took a sip of her champagne.
"So," she said, leaning in slightly, her eyes sparkling under the soft glow of the showroom lights. "What does the mastermind behind the biggest takeover on the coast do now that the war is won?"
"Now?" I grinned, raising my glass back to her. "Now, Chef... I just sit back and enjoy being a regular at the best restaurant in town."
She took a step closer, setting her champagne glass down on the marble pass behind her. The gentle hum of the ocean outside seemed to fade into complete silence.
Before I could say another word, Patricia leaned in, put her hand softly against the side of my face, and kissed me.
It wasn’t hesitant or timid. It was warm, intense, and filled with months of built-up relief, adrenaline, and pure, unfiltered passion.
My mind completely froze for a microsecond.
For weeks, every single move I had made was calculated, precise, and three steps ahead. I had mapped out every variable of Durev’s downfall, calculated the financial buyouts, coordinated Olden’s defection, and timed the legal filings down to the minute. I was always the strategist with total control over the room.
But right now, standing in the quiet, glowing center of LUMEN, I was completely caught off guard. I literally didn’t know how to react.
My hand stayed hovering mid-air near her waist for a brief second as my brain scrambled to catch up with the sudden shift in atmosphere. The sharp, cold mastermind who had just dismantled an empire in a single night was suddenly rendered completely motionless by the woman who had just conquered the city.
Slowly, the surprise melted away. I lowered my champagne glass onto the counter beside hers, let out a quiet breath, and wrapped my arm around her waist, pulling her closer as I finally leaned into the kiss.
