Chapter 157: 157 | It’s Just The Wind...

Ultra Realm.

The lady’s amber eyes locked onto Dexter with a sneer.

She expected to see fear on his face, waiting for his knees to buckle and for him to crash into the ground underneath the weight of her aura.

But...

Dexter stood perfectly still as though a slightly powerful wind just by passed him, ruffling his hair and fluttering his dirty wife-beater but, that was all.

His expression was totally flat and unimpressed. He was even slightly annoyed.

The lady’s expression changed slightly as her smirk faltered for a split second.

’Wasn’t this guy said to be useless? How was he able to overcome realm suppression?’

Dexter frowned and said flatly, his patience wearing thin.

"If you’re done with the theatrics, you can come in. I assume you want to see your sister."

The woman stared at Dexter with a slight frown but she ultimately nodded her head as her subsided.m back inside of her.

"Yes. I’m looking for my sister, Mira. I assume she’s here."

Dexter pursed his lips. "Alright. Come in."

He stepped aside.

The woman removed her red sunglasses, and tucked them into her handbag.

As she stepped through the gate and into the front yard, her nose wrinkled in irritation as she walked the ground as though it would stain her expensive heel.

Her eyes swept the yard with pure disgust.

Even though it had all been fully renovated, she still behaved as though she was stepping in a crack house.

Dexter rolled his eyes.

He had spent almost two days transforming this property into something clean and presentable. The fence was freshly painted, the lawn was trimmed and the porch was spotless.

Even the walls were clean and whole. It looked really neat.

But this lady behaved as though it was beneath her.

Dramatic for nothing.’

He led her up the porch steps and to the front door. He pulled it open, turned to face her, gave her fake smile.

"Come in."

Under normal circumstances, Dexter would have been genuinely welcoming. Discovering that a guest was his sister-in-law and Mira’s own blood. He would hosted her better.

But he didn’t for two reasons.

The first was her behavior.

And the second, was Mira.

If this woman was truly close to Mira, she would have been there three weeks ago, a the marriage and stand beside Mira on that evening.

Bur she wasn’t. And it wasn’t as though she couldn’t have known. The marriage had been public. The Ashford family’s humiliation of their bastard son had been all over the news.

Even the monster outbreak made news. Not to mention the assassination attempt on the highway.

If this woman had cared, she would have come days ago or even weeks ago.

Instead, she was showing up now.

Which meant one of two things. Either something had changed that had suddenly made Mira worth visiting, or this visit had nothing to do with sisterly affection at all.

’Mira isn’t going to be happy to see her.’

The lady was about to step inside when Dexter spoke in a sharp tone.

"Take off your shoes."

The woman froze mid-step and her eyes widened as she turned to stare at him in disbelief.

"What?"

Dexter indifferently repeated himself.

"You either take off your shoes and come in, or you keep them on and stay outside. Your choice."

The woman’s jaw tightened and he eyes seem to erupt in flames as she glared at Dexter as though she wanted to burn him right there.

Dexter blinked hind eye and continued to stare at her with a flat gaze.

He had been on the receiving end of Mira’s glares every single day, this woman’s glare was barely anything.

The two of them stood there on the porch, glaring at each other.

Eventually, the woman exhaled sharply.

"Fine."

She reached down, unbuckled her heels and placed them neatly to the side of the door.

Dexter nodded. "Good, you can now come in."

The woman walked into the house barefoot, and it looked like she was walking through hell.

Dexter chuckled internally. ’That’s what you get.’

Of course he did it intentionally after all, he also wears his boots around the house.

The lady’s gaze swept through the place and her her lips curled in disdain.

While the house looked a bit small, it was clean and every square inch of it had been repaired, painted, and polished by his own hands.

If she couldn’t see that, it was her problem, not his.

The woman’s eyes continued their survey as it moved from the kitchen all the way to the living room then she froze as her gaze landed on a specific spot in the living room.

The space directly in front of the large window. And in that place was Mira

She sat in her wheelchair with her eyes closed and her hands in her laps.

To a stranger, she looked like she was resting but the lady in the doorway narrowed her gaze.

Anna was actually being absorbed by Mira.

The Star Nodes of the Grand Cosmos Scripture were passive. Even when Mira wasn’t actively cultivating, they still drew mana like a gravitational pull.

"Mira," she breathed.

Mira heard it and the mana flow ceased as though it was an illusion.

Mira opened her eyes and turned her head to the direction.

Crimson eyes instantly collided with amber ember eyes as the two sisters stared at each other across small living room.

Mira’s expression was flat as she gazed at her sister while her sister’s brows were furrowed.

’I must have been imagining it.’

She had actually sensed mana flowing toward her sister whose meridians had been shattered beyond repair three years ago and had become a cripple physically and internally.

It’s probably just the wind.’

That was because the alternative was impossible.

Healing shattered meridians wasn’t a matter of medicine or rest or time. It required a sustained, astronomical investment of heavenly treasures like Grade 6 or higher pills, rare herbs and even transcendent healers.

The kind of resources that would drain even the wealthiest families in Stargate City.

She eas there when her family elders calculated the exact cost of restoring Mira’s meridians and it resulted in them losing 60 to 70 percent of their asset.

The Calloway family which was ranked fifth most influential family in Stargate City would have been reduced to commoners within a year.

And in a city like Stargate City, a wealthy family without wealth would be wiped out in days as old grudges would be settled.

All to heal just a single person.
