Investing in My Harem in the Apocalypse Makes Me Stronger
Chapter 199: Serath — The Youngest Prince of the Zombie Race
Dark blood spread across the ground.
The majority of the 1st Echelons had been cut apart by the single attack.
Around forty 2nd Echelons had suffered the same fate after failing to defend themselves properly.
Only around twenty of the stronger 2nd Echelon zombies near the rear had managed to block what remained of the attack.
Even they had not done so cleanly as several weapons were damaged.
One zombie had lost an arm.
Another had been pushed backward hard enough to crack the road beneath its feet.
Cain raised his head, then twenty-five points of light appeared behind him.
Mana condensed rapidly.
Long lances formed from the gathered energy.
The surviving zombies immediately became alert.
Even though his control had improved tremendously compared to the first time he had used this kind of attack, controlling twenty-five of them simultaneously was still hard for him to do.
Cain raised his hand and flicked his wrist.
The lances immediately moved, bright streaks crossed the avenue.
The surviving zombies scattered around or raised their weapons.
Explosions followed.
BOOM!
BOOM!
BOOM!
One lance struck directly against a zombie’s thigh and tore away most of the leg.
Another entered through the hip before erupting.
A third missed its intended target entirely and destroyed the ground beside it.
Cain adjusted the remaining trajectories as much as he could.
It was impossible to control that many projectiles with the same precision he possessed when using only a few.
Even though several missed their targets, the rest managed to do their job.
The street erupted repeatedly as the lances struck the surviving 2nd Echelons.
Cain had deliberately avoided their heads and upper bodies.
When the final explosion faded, most of the surviving zombies were lying across the road with their lower bodies destroyed.
A few remained standing farther away after escaping the barrage.
They would not remain untouched for long as Aurelia passed Cain from the side, golden Light gathered around her sword.
"Leave those to us."
Cain nodded, since that had been his intention from the start.
Several of the 2nd Echelons behind them still needed experience and resources.
There was no reason for Cain to personally kill every enemy in front of him when crippling them accomplished the same strategic purpose.
Ron appeared beside one of the zombies that had escaped.
Lightning flashed and his spear entered the creature’s chest before it could properly turn around.
Viktor continued straight through another part of the remaining formation.
Mo Xuanye did not even look particularly hurried.
The black-haired man raised one hand and a wave of Heavenly Demon Qi crashed into the enemies.
The rest of the human force poured through the destroyed gate behind them.
Cain remained where he was for a moment.
The previous attacks had consumed a noticeable amount of Mana.
True Ruin Eruption alone was not cheap.
The slash afterward had used far more energy than he normally placed into a single sword attack, and manifesting twenty-five lances simultaneously had drained another significant portion.
Cain opened his Inventory.
Several purified 2nd-Echelon Zombie Cores appeared in his palm.
His fingers closed around them as he used his (Energy Absorption) skill.
The dense energy contained within the Cores immediately began leaving them.
Cain felt the change clearly.
Purified Mana flowed into his body before being drawn toward his Perfected Core.
The energy inside the Cores disappeared quickly under the skill, small cracks spread across their surfaces.
Cain continued absorbing them as he walked deeper into the Central Base.
His Mana reserve began recovering.
At the same time, his attention moved away from the enemies around the entrance as he looked farther into the city.
The Central Base was even larger from inside.
Broad streets divided the fortified area into several sections.
Most buildings were constructed from the same dark materials they had encountered throughout the Invasion Corridor, but the architecture became increasingly unfamiliar toward the center.
Several structures rose much higher than the surrounding buildings.
Zombie Race soldiers occupied rooftops and intersections farther ahead, yet Cain barely paid attention to them as his eyes had already found something more important.
Six people stood farther down the central avenue.
Every one of them carried the pressure of a 3rd Echelon.
They simply stood there and watched.
Their confidence was completely different from that of the zombies defending the gate, since nobody among them seemed worried that hundreds of their soldiers had just been torn apart.
One figure immediately stood out from the rest.
A young man with dark crimson eyes stood near the center.
His clothing was white, sharply contrasting with the dark architecture surrounding him.
Fine golden patterns decorated the clothing and gave a distinctly royal appearance without looking impractical for combat.
His skin was pale gray, though far smoother than the ordinary members of the Zombie Race they had encountered. Short black hair framed a lean face.
Even from this distance, Cain could feel something unusual within the young man’s body.
Cain’s eyes narrowed.
The Youngest Prince was already looking directly at him with interest in those crimson eyes.
Cain could clearly see that much, yet beneath the interest was something else.
Disappointment.
Cain raised an eyebrow.
’What’s with that expression?’
He did not know whether that bastard had expected something different from him or simply found the destruction at the entrance unimpressive.
Either way, Cain did not like the look on that bastard’s face.
He crushed the empty Core fragments in his palm and allowed them to fall.
Then his eyes changed as golden light appeared within them.
Cain focused directly on Serath as he wanted to see what kind of talent and skills this bastard has.
However, the moment he looked at the information before his eyes, his expression immediately froze.
Then his eyes widened.
For the first time, Cain was genuinely shocked by another person’s status.
