Investing in My Crippled Wife: My Duchess Makes me Overpowered
Chapter 96: Final Battle
He took the coin. Wrote her name in his ledger. "The human. Three to one. You’ll lose."
She turned and walked away.
In the arena.
The signal sounded.
Without missing a beat, the attack began.
Fire erupted from his fingertips—a wave of flame that roared across the arena. Emeric dodged. Barely. The heat washed over him. He rolled.
Ice formed in his hand—a blade of pure frost. He slashed. Emeric parried with his sword. Still wrapped in cloth. The blade absorbed the ice. Dissolved it.
Aerion blinked.
"What—"
Emeric didn’t let him finish.
He attacked. Fast. Relentless. His sword cut through the air. Aerion dodged. Spun. Threw lightning. Emeric took it. His body smoked. His skin blistered. But he kept coming.
Aerion’s eyes widened.
"You’re insane."
Emeric didn’t answer.
He attacked again.
The fight continued.
Aerion was faster. Stronger. More experienced. His magic was overwhelming—fire, ice, wind, lightning. All of it swirling together. A maelstrom of elemental fury.
Emeric used everything.
Wind to deflect. Lightning to strike. Shadowstep to close distance. Phantom Dash to evade. His daggers found Aerion’s flesh. His sword found Aerion’s magic. He cut. He slashed. He bled.
But Aerion was winning.
A blast of fire caught Emeric square in the chest. He flew backward. Hit the wall. Slid down.
Aerion laughed.
"Is this all you have? Is this the best the humans can offer?"
Emeric pushed himself up. His ribs screamed. His vision blurred. He spat blood.
He charged. Aerion was ready.
A storm erupted. Ice and fire and wind and lightning. A maelstrom of destruction. It roared across the arena. It hit Emeric like a physical blow. He flew backward. Hit the ground. Rolled.
He was bleeding. His body was broken. His mana was low.
But he didn’t stop.
He couldn’t stop.
He thought of Isolde. Her face. Her smile. The promise he had made.
He reached deep.

Emeric rose.
His eyes were cold. Empty. Something else.
Aerion stopped laughing.
"What—"
Emeric moved and the fight had changed.
Emeric was faster now. Stronger. Deadlier. He closed the distance in a heartbeat. His sword cut through Aerion’s magic like it was paper. His daggers found flesh. His fist found bone.
Aerion staggered back. His face was pale. His eyes were wide.
"What are you?"
Emeric didn’t answer.
He attacked.
A storm gathered around him—his storm. Wind and Lightning. Fire and Earth. All of it swirling together. The first hints of Storm’s Embrace.
He drove his sword into Aerion’s shoulder.
The elf screamed. Aerion fought back.
Desperation made him dangerous. He threw everything he had. Fire. Ice. Wind. Lightning. The maelstrom returned. It roared across the arena. It hit Emeric like a physical blow.
But Emeric didn’t fall.
He pushed through it.
He drove his dagger into Aerion’s chest.
The elf gasped. Staggered.
"You—"
Emeric grabbed his collar. Lifted him. Slammed him into the ground.
The stone cracked.
Aerion tried to rise. Emeric put a foot on his chest.
"Yield," he said.
Aerion stared at him. His face was twisted with rage. Humiliation.
"I am a prince of the Elven Court. I will not yield to a human."
Emeric pressed down. Harder.
"Yield."
Aerion screamed. His magic flared. A last, desperate attack. But it was weak. Broken.
Emeric drove his sword into the ground beside Aerion’s head.
"I said. Yield."
Aerion’s voice was barely a whisper.
"I... yield."
The crowd was silent. Then they erupted.
Emeric stood over the fallen elf. His body was broken. His blood dripped onto the sand. His sword was still in his hand. He was healing very slowly.
He had won.
He raised his sword.
The crowd roared.
In the stands.
The hooded girl watched.
She smiled.
Emeric walked toward the tunnel. His legs trembled. His vision blurred.
He was halfway through when he saw her.
The hooded girl.
She stood in the shadows. Watching him. Her face was hidden. But her voice was clear.
"You won."
"I did."
"You were supposed to lose."
He stopped.
"What?"
She pulled back her hood.
She was an elf. Young. Beautiful. Silver-haired. Her eyes were sharp. Calculating.
"My name is Lirael. I am Aerion’s sister."
Emeric’s hand moved to his sword.
"I’m not here to fight." She paused. "I’m here to tell you something."
"What?"
She met his gaze.
"You have made a powerful enemy. My brother is a prince. His pride is broken. But his power remains. And he will not forget this."
"I don’t care."
"You should." She stepped closer. "There are forces at work here. Forces that have been watching you. Forces that see you as a threat."
"What forces?"
She smiled. It didn’t reach her eyes.
"The ones who have been collecting bets on your death."
She turned and walked away.
Emeric stood there.
His heart pounded.
He didn’t move for a long time.

The next day
The carriage arrived at midday.
Emeric stood at the gates of the capital, watching it approach. The horses were lathered. The driver looked exhausted. The journey from the small house to Aurelia was long—three days of hard travel. But they had made it.
The carriage stopped.
The door opened.
Tatia stepped out first. She looked tired but steady. She nodded at Emeric.
"My lord."
"Tatia."
She stepped aside.
And then Isolde.
She was in her chair. The driver helped lower her to the ground. Her eyes found him immediately. Her face—tired, pale from the journey—lit up.
He crossed to her.
Kissed her.
Long and hard. In front of everyone. In front of Tatia. In front of the driver. In front of the guards at the gate.
When he pulled back, she was breathless.
"Hello," he said.
"Hello."
He touched her face. Traced the line of her jaw. She leaned into his hand.
"I missed you," she whispered.
"I missed you more."
Tatia coughed.
They pulled apart. Isolde’s cheeks were red. Emeric was grinning.
"I should get you inside," he said. "You’ve had a long journey."
