Chapter 32: Two Beauties Want The Same Man
Chapter 32: Chapter 32: Two Beauties Want The Same Man
Xavier had no desire to become their target. He hadn’t even told Mira the full extent of what had happened. There was no reason to tell Marcus.
"Forget it," Xavier said. "I don’t know who awakened it. I was just wishing you good luck," he added.
Marcus clicked his tongue.
"Fine. Keep your secrets," he grumbled. ℴℴ𝘮
But he quickly changed subjects.
"Although, there’s something else I need you to explain," he said.
Xavier glanced at him. Marcus’s eyes were already filled with curiosity.
"How did you become friends with Evelyn?" he demanded, leaning closer.
"And don’t try telling me you two just happened to become friends. I heard what Ethan said yesterday. Apparently, you’ve known her since the day before," he pressed.
Marcus’s curiosity had been bothering him ever since yesterday.
After seeing Evelyn at the academy, he had learned enough about her background to realize that she and Xavier belonged to completely different circles.
Yet somehow, Xavier had managed to become close enough to her that she had even stepped in when Ethan caused trouble. Marcus couldn’t understand it.
Xavier chuckled.
"We just got along," he said simply.
"That’s it?" Marcus scoffed.
"That’s it," Xavier confirmed.
"You’re lying," Marcus accused, looking genuinely offended.
"We used to tell each other everything. Now you’re suddenly keeping secrets from me," he complained.
Xavier laughed.
"Maybe I’m secretly working hard and waiting for the perfect moment to surprise you," he teased.
Marcus shook his head.
"See? That’s exactly what I’m talking ab—" he started.
"What exactly are you secretly working hard on?" a woman’s voice suddenly cut in from behind them.
Both men turned.
Evelyn was riding toward them on her bicycle, a faint smile on her face.
Marcus immediately straightened.
Xavier simply smiled.
"Morning, Evelyn," he greeted.
"Good morning," she replied.
She glanced at Marcus.
"And you are...?" she asked.
Marcus paused for half a second before smiling awkwardly.
"Marcus. Good morning," he said.
Evelyn nodded politely before turning her attention back to Xavier.
"Are you heading to the academy?" she asked.
"Yes," he confirmed.
"Then let’s go together," she suggested.
Xavier agreed without hesitation.
Marcus looked between the two of them, his curiosity returning almost immediately.
The three of them set off together, cycling toward the academy as the morning gradually came alive around them.
The three of them continued toward the academy, talking casually as their bicycles rolled down the road.
They were only a short distance from the entrance when they reached an intersection and found someone waiting for them.
Ethan stood in the middle of the road with two men beside him. The swelling on his face from yesterday was completely gone. Clearly, the Carter family had wasted no time treating him.
The moment he saw Xavier, the anger he had been holding onto all night returned.
"Xavier, you finally showed up," he said, his voice cold.
"I’ve been waiting for you. Today, I’m going to make you regret humiliating me yesterday," he added.
He pointed at Xavier.
"Break his legs first," he ordered.
The two men beside him immediately stepped forward. They were older than Ethan and carried themselves like experienced fighters.
These were the Carter family’s private enforcers, men who had spent years cleaning up after Ethan whenever his temper got him into trouble.
Evelyn’s expression turned cold.
"Ethan, have you completely lost your mind?" she demanded.
She moved in front of Xavier.
Ethan’s face twisted when he saw her protect him again.
"Evelyn, why do you keep standing in his way?" he demanded. "What does he have that I don’t? You and I are obviously a better match," he added.
Evelyn didn’t even bother arguing with him.
"Leave," she said flatly.
Ethan’s expression darkened.
"So you’re really going to side with him against me?" he pressed.
"Yes," she answered, without hesitation.
Ethan’s face flushed with anger.
"You—" he started.
He stopped himself before saying anything else. He had already learned yesterday that arguing with Evelyn would only make him angrier.
He turned toward the two bodyguards instead.
"What are you waiting for?" he snapped.
"My family doesn’t pay you to stand around and watch. Get rid of him!" he ordered.
The two men exchanged a glance before moving again. They had hesitated because Evelyn was standing in the way.
She was the eldest daughter of the Hart family. Neither of them wanted to accidentally injure her and create a problem they couldn’t handle.
But now that Ethan had made his intentions clear, they had little choice.
One of the bodyguards stepped forward.
"Miss Hart, please move aside. We don’t want to make things difficult for you," he said.
Evelyn gave him a cold look.
"And what if I don’t?" she challenged.
The man’s expression hardened.
"Then forgive us," he said.
He lunged forward. The other bodyguard moved at almost the exact same moment.
Neither of them was an ordinary fighter. One had reached the third star of the Foundation Establishment Realm, while the other had reached the fourth.
The stronger of the two went straight for Evelyn. He deliberately held back.
His objective wasn’t to injure her, only to keep her occupied long enough for his companion to slip around her and reach Xavier.
But they had clearly underestimated her. Evelyn moved the instant they attacked.
Her body shifted sideways, avoiding the first strike before she countered with a quick punch.
The fight erupted at the intersection. Fists collided. Feet struck the pavement.
The sound of repeated impacts echoed through the street as Evelyn fought both men at once.
Foundation Establishment martial artists had already begun using spiritual energy to strengthen and refine their bodies, but they couldn’t yet freely turn that energy into long range attacks.
Their battles therefore looked relatively simple from the outside. Simple did not mean weak. Their movements were so fast that Xavier could barely follow them with his eyes.
Every collision sent pieces of concrete scattering across the road.
None of them drew weapons. There was no need.
They were fighting in the middle of the city, within Valemont’s jurisdiction.
Ethan might have been reckless, but even the Carter family wouldn’t casually allow their people to start using weapons in the streets.
Still, the two bodyguards gradually gained the upper hand. Evelyn was talented, but she was fighting two experienced Foundation Establishment martial artists at once.
Her usual cultivation focused more on strengthening her foundation than developing aggressive combat techniques.
Her opponents, meanwhile, had spent years fighting together. Their coordination was excellent. One attacked while the other immediately covered the opening. Before long, Evelyn was forced backward.
"Xavier, what are we going to do?" Marcus asked, his voice tense.
He had been nervous from the moment Ethan appeared. They had already blocked the main route to the academy, and Marcus’s attempts to contact his supervisor had gone unanswered.
He knew he couldn’t help Evelyn against two Foundation Establishment martial artists.
"Don’t worry," Xavier said, remaining calm.
Then he glanced behind them.
"There’s nowhere to run," he added.
Marcus followed his gaze. His face immediately changed.
Two more men were standing behind them. They were both large, muscular, and clearly waiting for the right moment to strike.
Ethan had planned for this.
"JJ! "Kay!" he called out impatiently.
"Stop standing around and deal with them!" he shouted.
The two men grinned and began walking toward Xavier and Marcus. Marcus swallowed nervously.
Xavier stepped slightly in front of him.
"Stay behind me," he said, his eyes remaining fixed on the approaching men.
He had known Evelyn was accompanying him because she expected Ethan’s family to retaliate.
What he hadn’t expected was for Ethan to prepare this thoroughly. Two Foundation Establishment fighters were enough to keep Evelyn occupied, while two more men had been positioned behind them to prevent Xavier from escaping.
There was no point trying to avoid the fight anymore.
Xavier slowly gathered Chaos Aura into his palm. He couldn’t determine the exact cultivation of the two men approaching him.
All he could hope was that neither had reached the Foundation Establishment Realm. If they were still within Body Tempering, his current strength was enough to deal with them.
After awakening the Primordial Chaos Physique, Xavier’s body was far stronger than an ordinary martial artist at the same level.
Even against a ninth star Body Tempering opponent, he was confident he could fight.
One of the men cracked his knuckles.
"Don’t blame us, kid," he said, smiling coldly.
"You offended the wrong person. We’re only doing what we’re paid to do," he added.
He suddenly charged. His speed was considerable. But Xavier’s eyes followed him without difficulty.
That was enough. He wasn’t a Foundation Establishment martial artist.
Xavier’s hand tightened, preparing to strike.
Then a familiar voice suddenly rang out behind him.
"Who said you could touch my husband?" the voice demanded.
Xavier froze. He knew that voice.
The next instant, a figure rushed past him. Mira appeared between them. Before the attacker could react, she launched a kick straight into his chest.
Boom!
The man was sent flying backward. He crashed onto the pavement several meters away and coughed up blood.
Xavier lowered the Chaos Aura gathering in his palm. There was no need for him to fight anymore and expose his strength he planned to keep secret.
Mira had already reached the second star of the Foundation Establishment Realm. Against two Body Tempering fighters, she had overwhelming superiority.
She immediately turned toward Xavier.
"Are you hurt?" she asked, her eyes moving over him anxiously.
Xavier smiled.
"I’m fine," he assured her.
Then he looked at her in surprise.
"But what are you doing here?" he asked.
Mira’s lips parted. For a moment, she didn’t know what to say.
She certainly couldn’t tell him that Marcus’s wife, Chloe, had casually mentioned that a beautiful girl from the academy seemed unusually interested in him, and that she had quietly followed him because she wanted to see what was going on.
That would be embarrassing.
"We’ll talk about that later," she said, quickly looking away.
"Let’s deal with them first," she added.
Xavier almost smiled. He didn’t press her.
Mira turned toward the remaining attacker. The man’s expression had already changed after seeing his companion thrown aside.
Before he could retreat, she closed the distance. One strike sent him crashing to the ground.
She didn’t waste another second. After making sure Xavier was safe, she immediately joined Evelyn.
The moment she entered the fight, the balance shifted. Evelyn no longer had to face two opponents alone.
Mira took one of the bodyguards head on while Evelyn focused on the other. The entire situation changed within moments.
Ethan had been watching from the side. He had already noticed Mira’s arrival. The moment he recognized her, his expression became even uglier.
"Mira Sinclair?" he said, his voice filled with disbelief.
He looked from Mira to Xavier, then back again.
"You people have really lost your minds," he muttered.
His anger finally exploded.
"I spent all this time trying to get your attention, and you ignored me, but now you’re all protecting this nobody?" he shouted.
The moment Ethan saw Mira, whatever restraint he had left disappeared.
He had spent a long time trying to win her over, only to be met with indifference every time.
At first, he had convinced himself that he simply hadn’t tried hard enough. Then he discovered that she had married Xavier.
To Ethan, that was impossible to accept. How could someone like Mira choose a man he considered completely beneath her?
His jealousy had quickly turned into resentment, and that resentment had been directed at Xavier ever since.
But now, watching Mira stand beside Xavier and repeatedly call him her husband, even putting herself in danger to protect him, Ethan suddenly felt ridiculous.
Everything he had done had accomplished nothing except making himself look foolish.
His face twisted with rage.
"Mira. Evelyn. You both pushed me into this," he snarled.
His hand slipped into his spatial ring. When it emerged, he was holding a small wooden figure no larger than his palm. It was something his mother had given him for emergencies.
