Chapter 10: Chapter 10: The Strange Young Miss

At some point, three young people had entered the equipment section.

There were two women and one man.

The woman standing at the front immediately drew Xavier’s attention.

She had shoulder-length black hair and delicate, well-proportioned features. She wasn’t as beautiful as Mira, at least not in Xavier’s eyes, but she was still undeniably attractive.

What stood out more was her temperament.

She carried herself with an obvious air of aloofness, her expression cool and distant as though she had little interest in strangers.

The other young woman standing beside her looked somewhat younger.

Her appearance was slightly less striking, but she wore her long hair in a ponytail, and her bright expression gave her a much livelier presence.

The young man walking behind them was reasonably handsome, though compared with Xavier, there was a considerable difference.

At best, Xavier would give him a fraction of his own looks.

More importantly, the man’s demeanor wasn’t particularly impressive.

His eyes wandered constantly, and he seemed eager to find an opportunity to show off in front of the two women.

The shopkeeper’s expression changed when he heard both sides claim the armor.

"Miss, I’m afraid there’s only one Heavenly Silk Armor in the store. This gentleman arrived first, so perhaps you could take a look at something else?" the shopkeeper said, looking toward the aloof woman.

The shopkeeper wasn’t about to break the rules.

Although it was obvious that the three newcomers came from a wealthy background, Xavier wasn’t someone he could afford to ignore either.

After all, the impression Xavier had left on him the previous night was still fresh.

That single transaction had earned the shop a considerable amount of money.

Besides, the Treasure Pavilion had government backing, which meant its prices were strictly regulated.

If this had been a privately owned store, a situation like this might have turned into an auction on the spot.

But before either woman could respond, the young man behind them stepped forward.

He apparently saw an opportunity to impress the women and immediately seized it.

"Boss, are you even trying to do business properly?" he said.

His gaze swept over Xavier’s clothes.

"Look at what he’s wearing. Everything on him looks like it came from a street market. He looks broke," he continued, his lips curling into a mocking smile.

"Do you seriously think someone dressed like that can afford two million crowns?" he added.

The shopkeeper’s smile stiffened.

He looked at Xavier. For the first time, doubt appeared in his eyes.

He had become so focused on the possibility of making another profitable sale that he had overlooked one important detail.

The Heavenly Silk Armor cost two million crowns.

Xavier had sold nine Second Tier elixirs to him the previous night for 1.2 million crowns.

Then he had immediately spent 1.1 million of that money purchasing more resources.

Did Xavier actually have enough money left to purchase a two-million-crown piece of equipment?

The shopkeeper hesitated.

Xavier didn’t bother arguing with the young man. He knew about these kinds of people in the novel. The kids that come from money and think they can bully anyone.

He calmly reached into his pocket and pulled out a small glass bottle.

Inside was a single elixir.

He handed it directly to the Treasure Pavilion’s owner.

The moment the shopkeeper saw what was inside, his expression changed.

"This is..." he said, carefully examining the elixir, his eyes widening.

"A Third Tier Frostveil Elixir?" he asked, his voice filled with surprise.

He inspected it several more times, his expression becoming increasingly excited.

"This quality is incredible!" he exclaimed.

Third Tier elixirs were extremely valuable, and even the Treasure Pavilion didn’t have many in stock.

More importantly, a high-quality Third Tier elixir was far more attractive to many martial artists than a piece of defensive equipment.

The shopkeeper’s attitude toward Xavier changed immediately. Even the other man was stunned.

Just as he was about to speak, the aloof young woman suddenly spoke.

"I’ll pay 2.2 million crowns for that Frostveil Elixir," she said.

Her words made the shopkeeper freeze.

Xavier also turned to look at her.

Until that moment, the woman’s attention had been focused on the Heavenly Silk Armor.

Now, however, she wasn’t looking at the armor anymore.

Her eyes were fixed entirely on the small glass bottle containing the Third Tier Frostveil Elixir.

"Taking a customer away from me right in front of my counter? Miss, that’s not exactly proper," the Treasure Pavilion owner said, his expression hardening.

The price of a Third Tier Frostveil Elixir was fixed at two million crowns. If he bought it from Xavier at that price and resold it later, he could easily make another two or three hundred thousand crowns.

More importantly, elixirs were completely different from defensive equipment.

A valuable piece of armor might sit on a shelf for months before the right buyer came along. High-grade elixirs, however, were always in demand. Martial artists were constantly looking for resources that could improve their strength, and a Third Tier elixir of exceptional quality would never have trouble finding a buyer.

He had no reason to give up that kind of profit.

"I think you should watch your tone, sir," the young man standing behind the two women said, stepping forward immediately.

"Do you even know who you’re talking to? That’s Evelyn Whitmore, the eldest daughter of the chairman of Whitmore Holdings. The Whitmore family is one of the most influential families in the city," he said, his voice carrying the confidence of someone used to throwing around other people’s names.

"If you continue speaking to her like that, you might find yourself without a business by the end of the day," he added.

The moment the Treasure Pavilion owner heard the name Whitmore Holdings, his expression changed.

He immediately closed his mouth.

Whitmore Holdings was a giant in Valemont. Although it was a private corporation, it maintained extensive partnerships with the government and controlled a considerable amount of business throughout the city.

And behind the company stood the Whitmore family, one of Valemont’s most powerful families.

Someone like him could make money from the Whitmores, but provoking them was another matter entirely.
