Chapter 106 - Night Zombie
"Pfft, after what has happened, you still trust him? Well, considering you were still trusting those kinds of medicines after what had happened two months ago, was a surprise as to me well." Nile said with a sarcastic tone.
Nile was referring to the ibuprofen they've used earlier. It seems that they still had not learned their lesson. It was that medicine who made the people turn into zombies two months ago. After knowing that, Nile really no longer wanted to try any sort of medicine from this world. The System's product was an exemption, of course.
"We don't know, but we better not risk it. Also, why can't we trust the medicine?" Sarah said.
"Huh, you don't know?" Nile said, perplexed. Are they really clueless or were they just pretending to be clueless?
"What do we need to know?" Sarah asks curiously. Gina and Gretta's attention was also now focused on Nile.
Nile sighed and stared at the three. "So you really don't know. It was the medicine the government had issued as the cure to the infectious virus before that had caused the people to turn into zombies."
Boom!
Faced with the sudden truth, their minds were shaken. Their body was trembling thinking of that scenario from two months ago. Now, it all makes sense for them.
Suddenly, Gina laughed incredulously, "I was right! Hahaha, I was really right. It was really that medicine. It was really the government's fault, all along."
Gina seems to have gone crazy as she was now pulling her hair down. Fortunately, she was sitting on the Level One° saddle, else, she might have fallen from Maximo's back right now.
Suddenly, Gina saw Sarah starting to poke her throat. She was trying to gag herself to vomit the medicine she had drunk earlier. She doesn't want to become a mindless zombie, after all.
Seeing her like that, Gina immediately attempted to console her. "Stop that Sarah, the medicine we've used should be old stock. So it's probably safe. Besides, that medicine two months ago should be the only medicine that can cause the mutation.
Sarah's eyes stared at Gina. "Really?"
'Of course not,' Gina thought while nodding at Sarah. She doesn't know if the medicine they've drunk earlier had really no Apocalypse Virus inside. The thing about the old stock was also bullshit.
Gretta was the most silent of the three, but deep inside, she was already breaking.
Gina saw her state. She shouted to make Gretta wake up from her trance. "Gretta, get a hold of yourself."
Gretta was startled and awakened from Gina's sudden shout. She nodded her head weakly towards her before glancing at Nile. Nile was calmly observing them, having no intention to reassure them.
Gretta sighed inside her head. They have just met earlier, after all. It was already enough that Nile was willing to expose such truth.
After seeing them consoling each other and calming a bit. Nile asks them. "So, which road do you wish to take?
Gina was the one who replied at this time. "Let's go towards the road we used earlier. We still don't know if what Jacob said about the village road was true or false."
"Okay, up to you. But if it were me, I would directly use the village road. It's faster that way." Nile said while hinting for them that it's okay to use the village road as he was here as their escort.
He didn't believe that such a thing as infested with zombies still existed. A month before, that should still be possible, but now? The zombies would have mostly evolved, killed each other, or even killed by other survivors for their Apocalypse Virus.
Gretta heard Nile and was able to spot the hint he provided. She looked at Gina and said, "Let's use the village road this time, Gina. Maria is still waiting for us and we should not delay any further."
Gina stared at Gretta before turning towards Nile. She then said, "Alright! Even though we're not sure, but Jacob said it was dangerous, do you still want to escort us?"
"No problem!" Nile replied confidently.
Gretta smiled at Nile brightly. Nile was wearing a mask so Gina was not able to see his face. However, if she really did see his face at that moment, Gretta would probably be depressed with her whole life.
Under that face mask, Nile was taken aback by Gretta's bright smile. 'What's wrong with this girl?'
He then made a funny face toward her under the black mask of his.
"Let's go!" Gina said.
Gretta supported Sarah as they walked side by side. Sarah's mind was greatly blown from that piece of information earlier.
She was the one who forced her family to drink that medicine two months ago. Does that mean that their demise was her doing, all along?
Tears started to fall from her eyes again after recalling his family that had all turned into a zombie.
Gretta patted Sarah's back lightly after hearing her make a sob. "It's alright. Everything's gonna be alright. Okay?"
Sarah nodded her head weakly.
Gina and Max were leading the way. Sarah and Gretta were on their right side, while Nile and Croco were at their back.
A few moments later. Maximo suddenly stopped. He was sniffing the ground like a dog trying to catch the scent of something.
After a while, Maximo looked left and made a 'moo'.
Nile understood Maximo's message. There was a zombie hiding on that corner.
Nile wanted to go there and kill the zombie but Croco communicated with him using telepathy. Croco wanted to kill the zombie himself. He was really sleepy and he guessed that if he didn't do anything exciting, he might even fall asleep while walking.
Nile allowed Croco's request, but he also wanted to go and observe the battle.
He wanted to know if the zombies are really not active during the night.
Gina was confused by the sudden stop of Maximo.
She then saw Nile and Croco walking towards the direction where Maximo was pointing with her muzzle earlier. She stared at Nile before asking "What's happening?"
Nile looked at her and smiled under the mask. "Oh, nothing serious. Just a zombie."
Gina, Gretta, and Sarah's eyes opened widely hearing that.
'Why do you mean just a zombie? It's a zombie. It's a terrifying existence, okay?' The three thought at the same time.
"What are you doing? Let's leave immediately before the zombie gets alerted." Gina said in a hurry.
"No problem," Nile said confidently.
Croco and Nile arrived at the corner where Max was pointing. Croco walked towards the corner first followed by Nile.
At the corner, Nile saw the zombie. It was sitting on a cemented fish pond, seemingly in a daze. The zombie was staring ahead of himself.
Nile approached the zombie and maintained a distance of four to five meters. He waved his hands in front of him, experimenting if the zombie could really not see. The zombie didn't react to his hands.
It was a surprise for Nile seeing that the Level One° zombies who liked to ambush their prey, are sitting pretty during the night.
Normally, at this distance, the zombie would already act and will try to kill him.
Nile was already done observing the zombie. He beckoned to Croco who was on his side before pointing his fingers towards the daze zombie.
"Croc, kill that ugly dude."
