Interstellar Age

Chapter 467 - 467: A Peaceful Life While the Galaxy Burns in the Background

Ayumi was certainly surprised when she returned to the galaxy, after much effort to find that it had managed to hold off the Naraku better than she had expected. Ever since her return, he had stayed hidden on Earth, not willing to reveal her powers.

After all, Erich had asked her to calmly stand by and wait until the necessary time where her powers would be most effective. She was, after all his trump card. The ultimate protector of their two peoples. If a time came when the Naraku encircled the Great Oni Empire, and the Germanic Star-Empire whose core territories were neighbors with one another.

Then she alone could repel them practically indefinitely. She was the great protector of their two peoples, and by extension the Dvrakians as well. To send her out to fight the bugs for any other purpose may aid in a victory, but from Erich’s perspective it was most certainly a waste of a hidden trump card.

Because of this, she stayed at home. With S’aleth, Erika, and Mirage. As well as their husband Erich who had returned ever since the Naraku fled from his borders. The galaxy may be under a total invasion on all sides from an extra galactic menace.

But the Earth was entirely unaffected by it. The planet was practically a utopia, free from any worries of a distant alien race which sought to eliminate all biological life. Every now and then the medical centers on the planet would have an influx of soldiers being resurrected who had died either in space, or on one of the many planetary battlefields fighting to stem the tide of the Naraku advance.

Yet, they would merely be given leave, to go rest, and enjoy themselves far away from the front liens of war with their families. Before eventually being shipped off again. The Germanic Star-Empire had grown so large, and its population so vast.

No doubt due to the combination of tank bred humans, and the long lifespans of the Germanic citizens, which allowed even those well past a century in age to breed like rabbits. That they had more than enough men to routinely rotate from shifts on the battlefield.

With their society’s industry, and agriculture is entirely automated. This meant that the women could wait for the return of their husbands, and could pursue the arts when they were not looking after their families.

Erich was perhaps one of the few people who had a small family, despite having multiple wives. His children were all adults, and he did not feel the need to have more and more children. Instead, he spent most of the time with his birth control settings on, even while enjoying his free time with his wives.

Currently, he was enjoying a meal with all of his wives. Ayumi was no exception. She was dining on the fine Japanese style cuisine that she had cooked for them all, while they discussed the ongoing state of the galaxy. Meanwhile, Erich was simply enjoying his time, as if there wasn’t a war for the survival of all biological life forms being waged in the background.

“I heard that Kurt has taken the lead in the war against the Naraku within the borders of the Ennead Theocracy. They say the tactics he is using has made the casualty rate among allied soldiers to be minimal.”

Erika was proud of her son, who was taking a leading position in the fight for the survival of the Milky Way Galaxy. Whereas Mirage spoke about her daughter, who was like herself involved in the intelligence industry.

“Well, Krista has identified new threats outside the galaxy. And even potential allies. It would appear the one of the distant galaxies in our local cluster is also currently fighting against a Naraku invasion. Although we have not confirmed the extent of the infestation, we do believe that if we were to reach out to them, we would be able to form some form of extra galactic alliance.”

This was information Erich was naturally aware of, but was not particularly interested in. The distance between them, and that galaxy, was vast enough that sending troops and resources to and from it would take months even with their advanced faster than light technology.

And besides, if the civilizations in that galaxy were remotely capable of reaching the Milky Way they would have done so by now. Extra galactic travel was something that was rare in the universe. As most interstellar civilizations were destroyed before advancing to such a level.

Ultimately, Ayumi finally spoke of her concerns. Making sure it was alright that she do nothing but perform her normal wifely duties while the galaxy burned in the background.

“Erich, are you sure it’s alright for me to be here? With the extent of my current powers, I could easily collapse one of the many fronts the bugs are fighting on within a year at the latest…. Doesn’t it seem wrong for me to be wasting my time here, when everyone else is doing their part?”

But Erich assured the woman that such risks were unnecessary, finally voicing his concerns as he did so.

“Relax Ayumi. You are the guardian of our three races. Without you, I could not deploy my forces outside of our borders with good conscience, as I would fear what would happen if the Naraku were to break through.

Believe me, you are doing the best you can by remaining here and protecting us all from the bugs, or any other form of a powerful enemy that might suddenly appear!”

Naturally these words meant the resurgence of the Maw, which could potentially happen. There was simply too much Erich did not know about it. Or the entities that were within the milky way silently working towards its return. As for Ayumi, she could only sigh and accept Erich’s words.

After all, he was the one who helped her reach this point, and she would not disobey his borders. Because of this, she would continue to live a peaceful life, watching and waiting for the day she was eventually needed.
