Interstellar Age

Chapter 465 - 465: The Prince Shall Lead the Charge

Kurt had suffered a minor existential crisis after learning Tia was in his head, and everyone else’s head in the Germanic Star-Empire. She was literally a ticking time bomb, waiting to go off whenever anyone had a single rebellious thought that was capable of being perceived as an active threat.

It was crazy, but whether it was because Tia fucked with his brain, by releasing extra levels of serotonin, or simply because he was a mentally well-adjusted person, Kurt moved on quicker than perhaps anyone else would. Accepting his reality and deciding to do his part for the Empire.

And soon enough his loyalty was rewarded, as the orders came from the Emperor himself. The Germanic Star-Marine Corps was heading out to Theocratic space to liberate several worlds that were now infested with bugs.

In years past Kurt had watched his father personally lead the charge into war against the various insectoid races across the galaxy, many of which were innocent, others were subservient to the Naraku.

His father justified this crusade through propaganda. “The only good bug is a dead bug.” But in his own personal morality, when the lives of all biological lifeforms were at stake. He simply could not take the risk of allowing the so-called innocent insectoid races to fall under the control of the Naraku’s influence.

And because of this he spent years wiping out all insectoid life in the galaxy. Something that had paid off in his father, no matter how ruthless it may have been. Now Kurt wanted to follow his father’s example.

Of course, the insectoids he would be fighting today were not the same feeble bugs his father fought and livestreamed while wearing his gilded armor. Rather, they were the far more monstrous Naraku. Even then, as the Prince of the Empire, it was his duty to lead the war effort in his father’s stead.

And because of this, the man adorned his grey MK III Power Armor and stood among his soldiers as they prepared to land their forces on the world below. Through a variety of means. Whether it was drop pods, drop ships, or full on troop transports touching down on the planetary surface.

The time had come to take the fight to the bugs. According to intelligence, the Theocratic Fleets had already defeated the Naraku Hive fleet which held this system. They had been bombarding the world’s surface for weeks now in an attempt to destroy any Naraku anti orbit, and anti-aircraft batteries that were in place.

Most of which had been thoroughly destroyed. By now, the all clear had been given for the Marines to land. Whether it was the Theocratic forces, or the Germanic Star-Marines who would be leading the charge. The battle would begin soon enough.

Kurt sat in his drop pod prepared and waiting for it to be ejected from his destroyer. It was one of many that would be sent in the initial invasion to secure key areas on the surface. Before the remainder of the army landed and helped begin with the tunneling efforts.

And sure enough, the pod dropped. An overwhelming sensation assaulted Kurt, as he felt his pod crashing down through the sky, barreling towards the world’s surface. And sure enough, he landed on the world. Where he immediately got out of his pod, and called in a heavy weapon to drop right by his pod.

Soon enough, the heavy weapons cache fell nearby, where he secured a heavy plasma rifle. Plasma had proven highly effective against the bugs in the past. Albeit at the cost of a considerable cooldown in between shots.

The weapon also needed to be charged up. Nevertheless, it was ideal for dealing with larger bugs. Before long Kurt had regrouped with his unit, which were more elite members of the Star Marines. No more than thirty seconds had passed before they came into contact with the first bugs.

“We’ve got bugs!”

“Hold your ground. I’m calling in air support!”

Kurt marked the spot where he wanted an air strike with the laser designator built into his helmet’s visor. Normally, by now a series payload would be dropped on the enemy. But unfortunately for him, and his men, they were operating with air support being provided by the Theocracy’s Naval Forces, rather than their own.

Because of this, he and his men were forced to fight an overwhelming horde of bugs as they came crashing over the corpses of their fellow insectoids. All in an attempt to tear the power armor wearing marines limp from limb and devour the organic material within.

But would Kurt let his men go down so easily? He shot the payload of his heavy plasma rifle towards the oncoming Swarm Tyrant whose thick carapace was easily melted through by the weapon, along with its internal organs and brain.

The massive beast fell to the floor, oozing with green acidic blood that ate through whatever was unfortunate to come into contact with it. However, the individual marines had personal shields which prevented the acid from coming into contact with the armor. Allowing them to continue to fight on as they used their advanced beam weapons to pierce through the exoskeletons of their enemies and kill them on the spot.

Even though they fought for several minutes to hold their ground, and lost several men. The airstrike soon came down and tore thousands of bugs to pieces. Creating a space for Kurt and his men to break through, and hopefully if they were still alive regroup with the rest of their unit.

All across the planet, or dare I say the galaxies battles like this were taking place. Soldiers were exchanging their lives to defend what ground they had. While others would be sent to their deaths, to retake the worlds they had lost.

It was a brutal and bloody war of attrition. But for the Germanic Star-Empire, wars of attrition were their specialty. So long as they had the resources to do so, they could resurrect their fallen soldiers, with memories intact, and send them and their years of combat expertise back into the fight. And this was how they planned to beat the bugs.
