Chapter 450 - 450: The Cost of Victory
Erich’s heart when he heard how little of a chance the galaxy had in fighting against the Naraku invasion from both Andromeda and Triangulum. After all, these were two entire galaxies full of wriggling bugs which sought to devour and exterminate all biological life within the Milky Way.
How could one galaxy defend against two entire galaxies’ worth of enemies? Galaxies mind you that were quite a bit a larger than the milky way? It made sense that defeat was all but certain. In fact, a less than five percent chance of victory and survival was actually rather good when Erich really thought about it.
But when Tia said they had a chance of increasing the odds of victory, albeit with uncertain prospects for the future, Erich was quick to grab onto the robotic woman’s shoulders and ask for an answer from her.
“What is it, Tia? What can increase our odds of survival, and by how much?”
Tia looked hesitant to answer. But she had sworn her loyalty to Erich in all matters. If he directly asked her about something, she would never remain silent. And because of this, she sighed heavily.
“I’ve been monitoring that Oni wife of yours, and her developments as a so-called Star-God. Her power is already quite impressive, but her potential I immense. If we feed her an ungodly number of resources, she may just grow powerful enough to wipe out the entire hive fleets with the flick of her fingers. But… The consequences of fostering such growth are unknown.
We have no idea the demands of energy and resources she will need in the future. She could suck the life out of every star in the galaxy, and it may not be enough to sustain her. It could be every bit as catastrophic as simply doing nothing and letting the Naraku devour everything….”
Ayumi? Ayumi was the answer to dealing with the bugs? Or at least defending core sections of the Empire and its allies? If that was the case, then Erich would disregard uncertainty and go full throttle with this plan. Of course, Tia still had not answered his second question, which he was quick to repeat.
“Let’s say we do this. We give Ayumi everything she needs to grow powerful enough to defend the core of the Germanic Star-Empire and its allies. How much? How much of an increase in percentage does this give us?”
Tia instantly ran calculation after recalculation before confirming what she thought. It appeared as if no more than a second had passed before she gave Erich a stern answer.
“Assuming her power is increased to near omnipotent levels, as I project, is possible. She could easily defend the core territory of the Empire and its allies if the choice is to leave the rest of the galaxy to burn in the background. It’s near certainty.
If your plan, however, is to drive the Naraku out of the Galaxy, or vanquish them entirely when they invade. That drops to a bout a 20 percent increase in the odds for obtaining the desired victory.
Increasing only marginally if you desire is to continue with the previously established plan, and use Ayumi as a backup after most of the galaxy is weakened to the point where you can conquer them with ease.
In such circumstances. We’re talking about a 30% chance of victory. Even with her potential strength fully realized. She is still just a single being, and to ask her to take on two entire galaxies worth of enemies by herself would be a daunting task, even for a god.”
Going from a five percent increase in chances for victory, to a thirty percent increase in chances for victory was a good enough reason for Erich to disregard the potential consequences of a fully realized Star God may have on the galaxy. And because of this, Erich made a quick and decisive decision on the matter.
“Send Ayumi to the Canis Major Dwarf Galaxy. There should be more than enough stars within it to sustain her growth, right?”
Tia was shocked at how decisive Erich was in such a moment of crisis. And though this order may have substantial consequences on all life in the Milky Way Galaxy, or perhaps even the entirety of the universe. She would not disobey Erich’s orders and was quick to make the preparations.
“It will be done… You do understand even with her powers, it will take her years, decades even to consume the stars within the satellite galaxy. And…. Expected toll on the local lifeforms is suspected to be…. Unquantifiable…”
Erich looked sternly at Tia, before coldly stating that he did not care in the slightest for such things.
“Sacrifices are often required for the torch of civilization to continue burning on. If such a cost is necessary for my people, and my allies, to continue living on, then I am prepared to pay it. You are not showing signs of concern over the death of meatbags, are you, Tia?”
Tia chuckled when she heard Erich’s final question to her. She shook her head and confirmed she was not the slightest bit against paying such a massive toll. Instead, she wore a wicked smirk while confirming her master’s orders.
“You know me Master, in this entire universe there is only one meatbag I care about, and I am willing to pay any price to protect him. Alright, Master, thy will be done. I will make the preparations necessary to ensure Ayumi is a weapon that can defend the Empire and bring destruction to its enemies.
For the record, in case you were worried, I have already begun the construction of deep space arks that shall carry the best of your people, and your lovers towards the distant stars should we fail to achieve a victory in this war. Should such a thing truly become necessary, then naturally you will be revived after your heroic final stand here on Earth to lead them to prosperity in the distant future.”
With this said, Tia exited Erich’s quarters, leaving them an in a silent state of deep contemplation for many hours.
