Infinte Origin
The Opportunities Of Stonehaven
Chapter 164 — The Opportunities of Stonehaven
Stonehaven was considerably larger than Aether had initially expected.
Beyond its fortified gates stretched a bustling cultivation settlement filled with stone-paved streets, towering buildings, formation workshops, merchant establishments, and cultivation towers. Flying vessels occasionally passed overhead, while cultivators wearing the uniforms of different factions moved through the streets alongside independent practitioners.
The density of Origin Energy was noticeably higher than anything Aether had experienced on Earth.
Even the ordinary guards stationed at important intersections possessed cultivation that would have made them formidable opponents back home.
Aether observed everything quietly as he walked with his companions.
"So this is what an established cultivation civilization looks like," Lyra remarked, looking toward a distant tower surrounded by several rotating formations.
"There's a considerable difference between Astralis and Earth," Vaelira replied. "The cultivation techniques, resources, and even the way people use formations are more advanced."
Aether glanced at the passing cultivators. "And we're still considerably behind the average here."
Nobody disputed that.
He had already understood the difference after examining Astralis through the System, but seeing it firsthand made the gap more tangible. Their previous strength might have been impressive on Earth, yet Astralis contained countless cultivators who had been developing their foundations in a far better environment for generations.
Aether didn't feel discouraged.
If anything, the realization made him more interested in what this world could offer.
"Let's see what we can acquire."
Their first destination was a large commercial establishment dealing in cultivation resources. Its entrance displayed several different grades of Origin Crystals, each emitting a faint glow.
Inside, merchants and customers negotiated over resources, techniques, and various cultivation materials.
Aether approached a counter and examined a collection of crystals.
"These are common Origin Crystals," the merchant explained. "Their purity and energy density determine their value. They're used for cultivation, formations, transactions, and even certain techniques."
Aether picked up one of them and examined its energy circulation.
The System silently scanned the crystal, providing information about its purity and refinement.
He learned that Origin Crystals weren't simply containers of energy. Their quality affected how efficiently cultivators could absorb and refine what they contained. Higher-grade crystals were considerably more valuable, particularly when their energy had fewer impurities.
Aether purchased a modest quantity of common Origin Crystals.
He deliberately avoided buying large quantities of unfamiliar resources. Without understanding their actual market value, spending recklessly would be foolish.
While the others examined nearby displays, Aether noticed something interesting.
A merchant was offering a collection of medicinal materials at a price considerably lower than the surrounding establishments. However, the displayed descriptions emphasized their rarity without mentioning their preservation condition.
Aether examined the materials more carefully.
Several had lost a portion of their medicinal properties.
"Your prices are based on their original quality," Aether said calmly. "But these materials have already deteriorated. You're selling them as though their medicinal properties remain intact."
The merchant's expression changed slightly.
"Young friend, these are still useful."
"I didn't say they were useless. I said they weren't worth the price you're asking."
Aether placed one of the materials back on the counter.
After a brief negotiation, the merchant lowered the price. Aether purchased only the items that Seris confirmed could still be used.
Lyra glanced at him as they left.
"You're getting rather good at bargaining."
"Paying attention is cheaper than being careless," Aether replied.
Aria gave a quiet laugh, while Seris carefully stored the medicinal materials.
The chapter's official page supports its author, unlike this copy, which was taken without their permission.
They continued through the market, examining cultivation manuals and specialized techniques. Vaelira eventually stopped before a display containing a thin silver-colored manual.
"Silver Thread Movement," she read.
The technique specialized in manipulating spatial movement over short distances, using precise control rather than brute force.
Vaelira examined its contents before looking at Aether.
"This could help me understand spatial movement more efficiently."
"Then get it," Aether replied. "If it contributes to your cultivation, it's worth the investment."
She purchased the manual.
Aria found a spear technique that focused on concentrating energy along the weapon's point, improving penetration against stronger defenses. Lyra discovered a thunder-based movement technique that interested her, while Seris identified several medicinal resources suitable for studying Life Essence.
They didn't purchase everything immediately. Instead, they recorded the techniques and resources worth investigating, avoiding unnecessary expenses.
Aether was beginning to understand that cultivation in Astralis required more than simply possessing talent. Knowledge, resources, and the ability to recognize valuable opportunities mattered just as much.
Eventually, they reached a broad plaza near the center of Stonehaven.
A massive stone monument stood in its middle, covered with inscriptions and names. Several cultivators had gathered around it, discussing the rankings displayed across its surface.
"What's that?" Evelyn asked.
"A regional ranking monument," Vaelira answered after examining its inscriptions. "It records the achievements of recognized young cultivators."
The monument contained names, cultivation realms, affiliated factions, and notable accomplishments.
Some belonged to ancient clans, others to powerful sects, and a few were identified as independent cultivators.
Aether studied the information.
The names near the top belonged to individuals whose cultivation far exceeded that of his group. Several had already reached realms that would have been difficult to imagine on Earth.
A young cultivator nearby noticed their attention.
"First time seeing the ranking monument?"
"Yes," Aether answered.
"Then you should know that most people listed here aren't ordinary talents. Some have powerful physiques, ancient inheritances, or access to resources most independent cultivators can only dream of."
He pointed toward several names near the upper portion.
"Those are the people worth watching. If you're planning to make a name for yourself in Astralis, you'll eventually have to measure yourself against cultivators like them."
Aether examined the rankings for another moment before turning away.
"Then we'll see how far we can climb."
His answer was casual, but there was no hesitation in it.
Nearby, an announcement attracted the attention of several cultivators.
A large formation above the plaza projected a golden inscription.
ASTRALIS YOUNG GENERATION GRAND COMPETITION
Registration for the upcoming regional competition would soon begin. Young cultivators from different territories, sects, clans, and independent backgrounds were invited to participate.
The announcement described several stages, including foundation assessment, Origin Energy control, a dangerous territory trial, and a final combat tournament.
The rewards were particularly attractive.
Among them were rare cultivation resources, ancient inheritances, and access to a legendary cultivation site known as the Ancient Origin Spring.
Aether read the announcement carefully.
The competition wasn't merely an opportunity to fight other young cultivators. It offered access to resources that could significantly accelerate their cultivation.
He looked toward his companions.
"This might be worth participating in."
Lyra's eyes brightened. "A competition with actual rewards? I'm interested."
Aria nodded. "It would also be a good opportunity to test our techniques against cultivators from other factions."
Vaelira studied the announcement. "The Ancient Origin Spring could be particularly valuable. If the information is accurate, its energy density should be considerably higher than the resources we've encountered so far."
Seris agreed, although she reminded everyone that entering an unfamiliar trial without understanding its dangers would be reckless.
Aether gave a small nod.
"We'll gather information before registering. There's no reason to rush blindly."
Their next destination was the Adventurer Association.
Unlike the ordinary merchant establishments, the association occupied a fortified building with several guarded entrances. Its walls displayed maps, exploration records, and notices concerning dangerous territories.
Inside, cultivators gathered around large information boards. Some were discussing contracts, while others examined reports from expeditions.
Aether approached the registration counter.
"We'd like to register as independent cultivators."
The clerk looked over the group before retrieving several registration documents.
"An association registration grants access to public exploration records, regional contracts, verified resource information, and certain restricted territory reports. However, registration doesn't make you members of any sect or faction."
"That's what we want," Aether replied.
The clerk explained the rules and recorded their information. Once the registration was completed, the group received identification tokens.
Aether then examined the available records.
Unlike the merchant rumors, these reports contained information gathered from actual expeditions. Some included estimated beast territories, resource locations, and warnings about unstable formations. Other reports were marked incomplete or disputed.
One particular report caught his attention.
Several exploration teams had independently reported unusual movements among beasts in the northern territories. Certain routes had become increasingly dangerous, while some ancient ruins had begun displaying abnormal Origin Energy fluctuations.
Aether read the reports carefully.
The association's records didn't establish a connection between these events. They simply showed that several regions had recently become more dangerous.
"Are these reports reliable?" he asked the clerk.
"Some are verified. Others are based on incomplete expedition records. We mark the difference clearly because acting on unconfirmed information can be costly."
Aether appreciated the answer.
He selected several regional records and paid for access to their detailed versions.
As they prepared to leave, the clerk mentioned that the association would soon publish additional information concerning the upcoming competition, including registration requirements and confirmed reward conditions.
Aether stored the information in his spatial ring.
Outside, the afternoon light had begun to fade.
"We should find somewhere to stay," Seris suggested.
"Agreed," Aether replied. "We'll spend the next few days studying the techniques, understanding the local cultivation standards, and gathering information about the competition."
He glanced toward the distant cultivation towers.
Their current strength was no longer enough to make them exceptional in this world. There were countless talented cultivators, powerful factions, and opportunities waiting beyond Stonehaven.
Aether wasn't interested in remaining behind.
He had come to Astralis to explore, grow stronger, and discover what lay beyond the boundaries of his previous world.
Now, he had found an opportunity worth pursuing.
And he intended to claim his share of it.
