Infinite Snake Evolution: But My System is a Total Menace

Chapter 99: defeating the demons and leaving forest

After some time…

The Vanguard Leader stumbled backward, his foot dragging through the ground as his eyes darted frantically between me and the burning wreckage of his camp. Blood dropped from his mangled palms where his executioner’s axe had just exploded. All around the clearing, the elite scouts he had brought with him were screaming, their armor melting under the pure, unrelenting heat of Qing Yan’s firestorm.

“Y-You… you aren’t normal humans,” the demon gasped, his voice losing every shred of its previous arrogance. He clutched his bare, exposed chest, backing away until his spine hit the jagged rock of the mountain wall. “The power… that golden light… it’s a Meridian Stage signature. How is a Meridian master hiding in this forest?!”

I didn’t answer right away. I simply walked forward, the weight of my steps causing the ground beneath me cracking , My aura didn’t flare aggressively; instead, it hummed with a dense pressure that made it difficult for the giant monster to even draw breath.

“You asked too many questions when you were holding the chains,” I said. I came to a halt just three feet from him, completely towering over his panicked frame despite his size. “And honestly, your voice is starting to grate on my nerves.”

“Wait! Wait, mercy!” the Vanguard Leader cried out, his terrifying appearance crumbling into pure, pathetic desperation. He dropped to his knees, his red platemail clattering loudly against the pebbles. “Don’t kill me! I have information! The High Demon Lords… they already know about the human sanctuary alliance! The grand vanguard army is already mobilizing to march toward the northern hidden valley! They are going to wipe out every single human survivor there! If you spare me, I can tell you the exact routes they are taking!”

I paused, raising an eyebrow. I didn’t care about his routes, but the mention of the grand vanguard army moving toward the old man and the other freed prisoners made my eyes narrow. Before I could say anything, a heat-filled stride echoed from behind me.

Qing Yan walked up, the translucent crimson silk of her dress sweeping across the scorched grass. The long gold earrings dangled against her neck, catching the midday sun as she glared down at the kneeling monster. Her chest heaved with a mixture of physical exhaustion and raw, burning hatred.

“We don’t need your map, and we don’t need your routes,” Qing Yan hissed, her voice vibrating with a lethal clarity. “I was dragged through those valleys in chains. I know exactly where the hidden valley lies, and I know every path the demons use to hunt us.”

I glanced back at her, seeing the fierce, unyielding determination in her eyes. The playful smirk returned to my face as I stepped back, completely disengaging my aura and gesturing toward the trembling commander with an open palm.

“Well, you heard the lady,” I chuckled, giving her a reassuring nod. “He’s all yours, Qing Yan. Clean the slate.”

Qing Yan looked at me, a full of surprise softening her face for a split second before her gaze hardened once more. She stepped directly in front of the Vanguard Leader. She raised her right hand, and instead of a massive, uncontrollable explosion, a small, incredibly compressed orb of flame materialized right above her palm. The sheer density of the heat made the surrounding air warp like a desert mirage.

“This is for my sect,” she whispered.

She thrust her hand forward. The compressed flame didn’t just burn him—it pierced straight through his chest cavity. The Vanguard Leader didn’t even have time to scream. Within three seconds, the intense fire consumed him from the inside out, reducing his massive body to a pile of silent ash blowing away in the mountain wind.

The clearing fell completely silent, the scouts were destroyed, and the immediate threat was entirely neutralized.

Qing Yan stood perfectly still, her hand still raised, staring blankly at the spot where the monster had just disintegrated. Slowly, the fierce, lethal pressure of her aura began to recede, flowing back into her core. But as the fighting Aura of the battle faded, her shoulders began to tremble slightly.

The weight of everything she had survived—the years of captivity, the slaughter of her family, the torture of the sealing cuffs, and the sudden, overwhelming bond we had forged in the cave—all came crashing down on her at once.

“Qing Yan?” I asked, my voice dropping all its teasing edge as I stepped closer.

She didn’t answer with words. She simply turned around, her large eyes full with tears. With a small, choked sob, she lunged forward, burying her face directly into my chest. Her arms wrapped tightly around my neck, holding onto me so fiercely that her fingernails dug into the fabric of my white and blue robes.

I didn’t hesitate. I wrapped my arms securely around her waist, pulling her bare, soft frame as close as possible, shielding her from the wind of the mountain pass. I rested my chin gently on top of her head, letting her cry out years of pain and relief right into my shoulder.

“It’s over,” I murmured softly, my hands gently rubbing her back as her long hair spilled over my arms. “They can’t touch you anymore. Everything will be okay from now on, i promised you didn’t i ?.”

“I know…” she whispered against my chest, her voice small, and completely devoid of her usual defensive pride. She tightened her embrace, her body trembling as she took comfort in the unyielding warmth of my chest. “It’s just… for so long, I thought I would die in those chains. I didn’t think anyone was ever coming.”

“Well, you got stuck with me instead,” I said softly, a gentle, quiet chuckle escaping me to break the sadness. “And I don’t plan on going anywhere.”

We stayed like that for a long time, just holding each other in the center of the ruined camp, completely ignoring the passage of time as the mountain sun climbed higher into the sky. It wasn’t about cultivation, levels, or power anymore; it was just the two of us, finding a strange, perfect peace in the middle of a brutal world.

Eventually, after her tears dried and she pulled back with a shy, bright red blush covering her face, we decided to search the rest of the mountain area. We spent the next few hours thoroughly traversing the upper ridges of the Necis Forest, looking for any hidden demon storehouses, outposts, or useful resources. But our search yielded nothing. Aside from the occasional wild mountain beast scurrying through the brush and ordinary forest animals hiding in the thickets, the area was entirely barren.

As the late afternoon sun began to dip, casting long, golden-red shadows across the landscape, we finally began our descent down the jagged rocks, leaving the suffocating borders of the Necis Forest behind us for good.

I looked out toward the open valley stretching into the distance, my hand naturally finding hers and gripping it firmly. “Alright, qing yan. You know the way to this hidden sanctuary. Lead the way before the sun sets.”

Qing Yan looked down at our joined hands, her cheeks turning a beautiful pink, but she didn’t pull away. She squeezed my hand back, her long earrings swaying as she pointed toward a narrow, fog-shrouded gorge in the northern ridges.

“The grand vanguard army is already moving,” she said, her voice turning sharp and focused. “If we don’t hurry, the sanctuary will fall before we even arrive.”

“Then let’s go show them what a Meridian master and a Genesis Peak expert can do,” I grinned, and together, we stepped out into the open world.
