Chapter 281 - 39: The Mountain God’s Summons, a Great Demon’s True Form
Chapter 281: Chapter 39: The Mountain God’s Summons, a Great Demon’s True Form
Chen Ye’s brow furrowed slightly. ’Is this summons from that Mountain God?’
He had been in Kawa Village for over two years, but his only interaction with this Mountain God had been offering incense at the shrine.
However, Chen Ye could sense that while the summons had come abruptly, there was no malice behind it. It felt more like an invitation.
After a moment of contemplation, Chen Ye pushed his door open and headed straight for the rear mountain.
The rear mountain was a forbidden area for all of Kawa Village. Unless there was a major sacrificial ceremony, no villager dared to approach it.
The villagers firmly believed that anyone who trespassed on the mountain would anger the Mountain God and bring disaster upon their home.
Of course, Chen Ye was an exception. He soon arrived at the foot of the rear mountain.
Looking up, he saw a thin layer of mist shrouding the forest ahead, making everything hazy and indistinct.
The mist was strange. Though it looked thin, it effectively blocked both his line of sight and the probing of his Divine Thought.
Chen Ye tried to extend his Divine Thought, only to find it could go no further than a hundred feet before being repelled by a gentle yet powerful force.
’What a formidable Natural Array!’
Chen Ye was secretly astonished.
This wasn’t just mist; it was a Restriction infused with the Power of Heaven and Earth.
’It seems this Mountain God really doesn’t want to be disturbed.’
However, when Chen Ye stepped into the mist, the force that had blocked his Divine Thought had no effect on him.
As if alive, the mist parted before him, revealing a path.
Chen Ye understood. The Mountain God was inviting him in. Without further hesitation, he stepped onto the path.
The moment he stepped through, the scene before him opened up. Strange flowers and exotic herbs grew everywhere. Many were rare Spirit Medicines, long extinct in the outside world, yet here they grew as common as weeds.
A few small, snow-white, single-horned deer drank from a nearby stream. When they saw Chen Ye, they merely blinked with curiosity, showing no fear at all.
’What a paradise on earth!’
Chen Ye praised it inwardly. He followed the path upward, and after about the time it takes an incense stick to burn, he reached the mountainside.
There was a huge cave here, from which the thick, dense mist billowed out in a constant stream.
’This must be the Holy Land the villagers speak of—the Immortal Cave.’
Standing at the entrance, Chen Ye felt the summoning sensation reach its peak. He stepped inside.
The moment he entered the Immortal Cave, Chen Ye felt as if he had stepped into another world.
The light from outside was instantly swallowed, yet the cave was not pitch-black.
The mist pouring from the cave emitted a soft glow of its own, illuminating the interior down to the finest detail.
The space inside was far larger than it appeared from the outside, as if the entire core of the mountain had been hollowed out.
The ceiling was too high to be seen. Countless massive stalactites hung down, glistening with crystal-clear droplets of water that fell into a vast pool below, creating a crisp, echoing sound.
The entire cave was filled with a dense concentration of Heaven and Earth Spiritual Qi.
’Damn, this place is a paradise for Cultivation!’
Chen Ye marveled to himself as he walked slowly toward the depths of the cave.
The cave was eerily quiet, with only the sound of dripping water echoing through the vast space, making it all the more distinct.
Just then, Chen Ye stopped dead in his tracks.
His newly acquired Talent Tribulation Eye activated on its own, and the world before him instantly transformed.
Within the swirling mist ahead, countless threads of Energy, some bright, some dark, were converging frantically, forming an impossibly complex structure.
Among these threads, there wasn’t a single Tribulation Line representing malice—only a power so pure and immense it was like a boundless ocean.
Chen Ye’s heart leaped. He knew the one he had come to see was about to appear.
Despite feeling no malice, Chen Ye instinctively tightened his grip on the hilt of his Jingzhe Saber.
Just then, the mist before him began to churn violently before gradually coalescing into a tall figure.
He was an exceedingly handsome man with sharp brows, star-like eyes, and a high-bridged nose. His figure was abnormally tall—at least ten feet by estimation—and he was dressed in a simple, ancient black robe. Barefoot, he floated silently in mid-air.
Most striking was the pair of prominent horns on his forehead, which glinted with a metallic luster and added an air of inhuman majesty to his presence.
He merely floated there silently, yet a terrifying aura, as deep as an abyss and as vast as the sea, washed over Chen Ye, pressing down on him until he could barely breathe.
Chen Ye was deeply shaken. ’So this is the Mountain God worshiped by the people of Kawa Village? He’s truly unfathomable!’
Just then, a calm, majestic voice resounded directly in Chen Ye’s mind.
"There is no need to be nervous, young man. If I wished you harm, you would never have had the chance to set foot on this mountain."
Hearing this, Chen Ye relaxed slightly, knowing the being spoke the truth.
With the power this being had displayed, crushing him would be easier than crushing an ant.
So, Chen Ye cupped his fist toward the figure and asked in a low voice, "Are you the Mountain God of the Southern Wilderness Mountain Range? For what purpose have you summoned this junior in the dead of night?"
The tall figure slowly descended, landing a short distance in front of Chen Ye. He then studied Chen Ye with his deep eyes, as if trying to see straight through him, body and soul.
