Chapter 149: Chapter 118: Physical Deliverance

The Old Temple Priest of the General Temple also recalled the miraculous scene when Chen Ye’s performance of "General’s Order" had channeled the General’s Divine Thought. He bowed three times to the statue, and when he rose, his eyes were filled with resolve. "The General’s Divine Thought approves of this plan. It may be worth a try!"

"I support Boss Chen!" Lu Jinghong’s clear voice rang out. She stepped forward, her gaze firm. "If I have to choose between sitting here and waiting to die or fighting for a chance, I’ll take the latter!"

Spurred on by their example, the survivors’ desire to live finally overwhelmed their fear.

"Count me in!"

"I’m in too!"

Everyone began to chime in, expressing their willingness to do their part.

"Good!" Chen Ye nodded. "But we don’t have nearly enough people right now. So, the first step is to rescue my master and Manager Deng from the Guangle Building. The rest of our Opera Troupe brothers are trapped there too!"

Chen Ye’s proposal instantly plunged the General Temple, where a flicker of hope had just been kindled, into a dead silence.

’Rescue people from the Guangle Building?’

Everyone instinctively looked outside the temple.

Although the golden curtain of light temporarily protected them, beyond it lay an endless horde of ghostly creatures. They were frantically assailing the Barrier, emitting grating scratches and venomous shrieks.

’Willingly abandon our only sanctuary to charge into that Ghostly Realm and save people?’

’How is that any different from a suicide mission?’

"Boss Chen, it’s not that we’re unwilling, it’s just..." The Class Leader of the Mingfeng Troupe looked troubled, unable to finish his sentence.

Everyone understood that the people in the Guangle Building were their peers from the Peach Garden Lineage—their friends and martial brothers.

But in that moment, fear overrode everything.

"You guys can go if you want, but I’m not going to get myself killed!" a man in the crowd shrieked. "If we just defend this place until dawn, the Government Office’s reinforcements will come and we’ll be saved!"

"Reinforcements?" Qi Shihao spat a thick glob of phlegm on the ground, strode over, and grabbed the man by the collar. He lifted him clean off his feet with a fan-sized hand, spraying spittle all over the man’s face.

"Are you fucking deaf? Didn’t you hear that the telegrams aren’t going through? The whole city’s been sealed off! Where the hell are any fucking reinforcements gonna come from?!"

Qi Shihao’s crude but direct words shattered the last shred of unrealistic fantasy in their hearts.

The man turned deathly pale with fright, his legs trembling uncontrollably.

"But... but there are so many of those... those things outside..."

"What’s there to be scared of!" Qi Shihao tossed the man to the ground, then turned and patted the crates of dynamite he’d brought with him, declaring with heroic bravado,

"Boss Chen will handle the supernatural freaks, and I’ll clear the way! We’ll blast a bloody path straight to them!"

Ge Kun also stepped forward. He wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth. Although his face was still pale, the grief in his eyes had transformed into resolute fighting spirit.

"With my master’s murder still unavenged, how can I cower here and live? I will go with Boss Chen!"

Lu Jinghong also walked to Chen Ye’s side without hesitation. Though she didn’t know any Martial Arts, her standing with him was a statement in itself, representing the Lu Family’s support.

Seeing that the three most capable people—Chen Ye, Qi Shihao, and Ge Kun—had declared their intentions, the few surviving martial arts masters and Martial World People in the temple exchanged glances and cupped their fists.

"Boss Chen, count us in!"

"That’s right! If we have to die, we’ll die like we’re worth a damn!"

In the blink of an eye, an elite rescue team was formed, with Chen Ye in the lead, Qi Shihao and Ge Kun at his side, and several highly skilled Martial World People joining them.

The Old Temple Priest watched them, his eyes filled with admiration. He took out all the vermillion talisman paper stored in the temple and handed it to Ge Kun.

"Righteous warriors, I implore you to be careful. You must be swift and return quickly!"

Time was of the essence; there wasn’t a moment to lose.

"Open the door!" Chen Ye ordered in a low voice.

The heavy temple doors were slowly pulled open just a crack, and the piercing shrieks from outside instantly grew louder.

"Go!"

Chen Ye was the first to charge, plunging into the cloying darkness.

The others followed close behind.

The temple doors slammed shut behind them with a BOOM, sealing away the light.

...

The long street near the Guangle Building was now a playground for ghostly creatures.

Hundreds of these creatures roamed the area, tearing at mangled corpses and feasting on the flesh and blood that littered the ground. The entire street reeked with the nauseating stench of gore and rot.

When Chen Ye’s rescue team charged onto the street, they instantly drew the attention of every single ghostly creature.

"RAAAGH—!"

A cacophony of monstrous howls erupted as countless pairs of glowing green eyes locked onto them in unison.

Like sharks that had scented blood, they swarmed from all directions, intent on tearing to shreds these humans who dared to trespass on their territory.

"Old Qi!" Chen Ye roared.

"You got it!" Qi Shihao grinned, pulling a flint from his coat. He lit a bundle of dynamite with an extremely short fuse and hurled it into the densest part of the horde.

"Have a taste of your Grandpa Qi’s physical exorcism!"

BOOM—!

A deafening explosion ripped through the night sky!

Flames shot toward the heavens, and the violent shockwave instantly obliterated dozens of ghostly creatures.

The blast certainly cleared an open space, but the massive commotion attracted even more of the creatures, which surged forward, heedless of death.

Just as the group was about to be drowned by the spectral tide,

Chen Ye’s eyes narrowed, and with a flash of will,

His Illusionary Performance Talent activated!

In that instant, an invisible wave emanated from him, spreading out in all directions.

The creatures charging madly toward them abruptly froze, the greedy green light in their eyes replaced by overwhelming terror.

For in their vision, the insignificant humans had vanished.

In their place stood a troop of Celestial Soldiers and Generals, clad in resplendent Golden Armor and wielding Golden Melon Hammers, Long Halberds, and Treasure Pagodas. They towered dozens of feet high, radiating an awe-inspiring divine might!

These Celestial Soldiers and Generals emanated an aura of grandeur, majesty, and sanctity—the very power that ghostly creatures loathed and feared most.

The lead Divine General’s phoenix eyes blazed with fury. He leveled his Fangtian Halberd and let out a thunderous bellow: 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ

"Foul beasts! Surrender now!"

The command was imbued with immense divine power. Dozens of the weaker creatures nearby were annihilated on the spot, their souls shattering before they could even scream.

The rest of the creatures were scared witless, letting out terrified shrieks as they recoiled like a receding tide, not daring to take another step forward.

Following behind, Qi Shihao, Ge Kun, and the others were all completely dumbfounded.

What they saw was different from what the ghostly creatures saw. To them, Chen Ye’s figure seemed to have become impossibly tall in that instant, as if cloaked in an invisible mantle of light and shadow. An indescribable pressure emanated from him, and by his power alone, he had suppressed all the malevolent spirits on the entire street!

"What are you gawking at? Move!"

Chen Ye’s voice snapped everyone out of their shock.

As if waking from a dream, they scrambled to follow him, taking advantage of the moment the creatures were stunned to race toward the Guangle Building.
