Chapter 141: Chapter 115: Mei Lin’s Medicine, a Scholar’s Backbone
Although he had gained the upper hand in the Illusion Realm and grievously wounded the "Lord of the Mountain," the creature still had a few tricks up its sleeve. At the last moment, it had severed a portion of its own Divine Spirit and ripped its way out of his Illusion Realm.
That was the source of the bloodcurdling scream from a moment ago.
"Take good care of her," Chen Ye instructed Qi Nana, then turned and left the room.
He went straight to the main hall, where Mr. Lu and Qi Shihao immediately crowded around him and explained the situation with the hole in the floor.
Chen Ye nodded and walked up to the hole.
The coughing from within continued, but whoever was in there clearly had a high pain tolerance, stubbornly holding out despite being smoked for so long.
A cold smirk touched the corner of Chen Ye’s mouth.
"Go find all the chili powder in the kitchen."
Mr. Lu was taken aback for a moment but quickly ran off to do as instructed.
Soon, a large bag of acrid, spicy chili powder was tossed onto the fire.
SIZZLE!
A thick, acrid smoke that made one’s eyes and nose stream was then funneled into the hole.
This time, the person inside finally couldn’t take it anymore.
"COUGH COUGH COUGH... *GACK*!"
Amid a violent coughing fit, a soot-stained figure shot out of the hole and tried to make a break for the exit.
But the moment she appeared, a well-prepared Qi Shihao kicked her to the ground.
Mr. Lu reacted in a flash, rushing forward and pressing a blade to her throat.
When everyone got a good look at her, they all froze.
This disheveled, weeping figure, covered in soot, was none other than the Jingxin Daoist Nun, the very same woman who had worn such a warm smile and benevolent expression before!
She no longer possessed a shred of her former transcendent grace. Her hair was a mess, her Daoist Robe was covered in soot, and she looked like a beggar who had just crawled out of a fireplace.
Chen Ye stepped forward and asked coldly, "Start talking. What’s really going on here?"
The Jingxin Daoist Nun coughed for a long while before finally catching her breath.
She didn’t struggle or beg for mercy. Instead, she slowly raised her head, fixed a pair of venomous eyes on Chen Ye, and began to laugh.
"Hehehe... Boss Chen, you really are a capable one."
"I’ve run this temple for over a decade without a single mishap. I never thought I’d be the one to fall into your hands."
Her composure sent a chill through Mr. Lu and Qi Shihao.
’Isn’t this evil Daoist nun afraid of death?’
Chen Ye, however, remained unmoved. He stared at her, his expression blank. "This so-called Lord of the Mountain," he said coldly, "what exactly is it?"
"Hehehe..." Jingxin cackled again, the soot on her face mingling with her tears, making her look even more hideous.
"The Lord of the Mountain... The Lord of the Mountain is an Immortal, of course! He is the true god who protects the lands of West Mountain!"
At this, her tone shifted, becoming one of fervent worship. "The Lord of the Mountain adores the mortal realm and loves the vibrant life in this world. To be chosen by him is the greatest of blessings!"
Mr. Lu was seething with rage. He pressed the blade down a fraction, hissing, "Bullshit! You vile nun, you harmed my daughter and you still dare to spout such poisonous lies!"
"Poisonous lies?" A trickle of blood appeared on Jingxin’s neck, but she seemed oblivious to it, her laughter growing even more manic.
"Mr. Lu, do you think your daughter is some pampered princess? To be chosen by the Lord of the Mountain is a blessing she’s earned over eight lifetimes! All she has to do is obediently take the Marriage Pill, and her Divine Spirit will merge with the Lord of the Mountain’s. She’ll become ageless and undying, forever young!"
"You...!" Mr. Lu was so furious he trembled all over.
Qi Shihao asked in a low voice, "What is that Elixir Pill? Who are you? And why are you helping this monster?"
"Helping this monster?" Jingxin shot him a disdainful look. "Look at my face!"
She straightened up, her face filled with a sick sort of pride. "How old do you think I am? Forty? Fifty? I’ll tell you, I’m seventy-three years old! The Lord of the Mountain granted me youth and kept me beautiful. Isn’t that a heavenly gift?"
At her words, both Mr. Lu and Qi Shihao gasped in shock.
A woman in her seventies, willingly serving as a Chong Ghost for some unknown evil creature for over a decade, all just to maintain the appearance of a forty-year-old!
It was simply appalling!
"As for the Lord of the Mountain’s true form... I might as well tell you." Jingxin extended a finger as thin as a dried twig, pointing outside the hall at the grove standing proudly in the wind and snow. "That’s him."
"That entire grove, Mei Lin, is actually a single tree. That is the Lord of the Mountain."
Everyone followed her finger and looked out the window. Under the dim sky, the Mei Lin looked like an ancient Giant Beast crouching upon the earth, emanating a heart-stopping aura.
A single tree, an entire forest.
A single demon, a revered god.
It forcibly married young women in their dreams, feeding on their Essence Qi and Divine Spirit. And its accomplice was an old woman who had sold her soul to preserve her youth.
Just then, the smile vanished from Jingxin’s face. She stared at Chen Ye, the venom in her eyes so potent it seemed to become tangible.
"Boss Chen, you truly are impressive."
"My worthless junior sister, Jingxuan, died at your hands, and now I’ve suffered the same fate."
Jingxuan!
’The Daoist Nun from Celestial Empress Palace!’
Chen Ye’s heart went cold. ’He never expected this madwoman to be Jingxuan’s senior sister!’
’But it made sense. One used the Celestial Empress Palace in the city to gather resentment and refine ghosts, while the other used Jingyun Temple in the mountains to rear a Plum Demon. They really were two of a kind!’
"But don’t get too cocky," Jingxin said, her expression twisting with madness.
"You think you’ve won? Hehehe... You won’t be laughing for long. I’ll be down below... waiting for the day you die!"
