Infinite Nightmares
Chapter 369 Enemies
He didn’t know what other 03s were like, but Zhang Wenda could use the massive space of his Inner World to easily transport all sorts of supplies and living creatures.
Once inside, the imprisoned people all cast grateful gazes at Zhang Wenda. It was clear they were truly thankful. With a group of his own people like this, they would be a great asset to Zhang Wenda in the future.
After a quick headcount, Zhang Wenda asked the people inside the opening, “How come there are only 59? Weren’t there 68? Where is everyone else?”
One of the adults replied, “They’re either dead or were recruited by them.” His words instantly cast a pall over the previously excited and joyous atmosphere, making it oppressive.
“It’s alright. Their deaths won’t be in vain. For now, just rest inside. I’ll get you out of here.” Zhang Wenda closed the Inner Self Gate and prepared to leave.
Just as he was about to head to the floor above, a dirty, fat face appeared in the small vent of a nearby cell. The face grinned at Zhang Wenda, revealing a gap left by missing front teeth.
“Save me! Friend, save me! I’m one of you!”
“This guy is one of ours too?”
Zhang Wenda turned to look at Hu Maomao. After staring at the man for a few seconds, Hu Maomao replied, “No, he isn’t. The guy’s a fraud. He’s trying to trick you into getting him out.”
Then, as if she had seen something, an expression of utter disgust appeared on her face. “Ignore him. He’s getting what he deserves. The crimes he committed are considered heinous even by the standards here.”
Seeing his ploy had been exposed, the man’s face immediately twisted into a fawning smile. “Get me out of here! I have a doomsday bunker, filled with over a thousand tons of supplies! Get me out, and it’s all yours.”
This time, Zhang Wenda didn’t need Hu Maomao’s help to know the man was spouting nonsense. The lie was completely illogical. ‘He must have been driven mad by imprisonment if he expects anyone to fall for that.’
Zhang Wenda couldn’t be bothered with the man’s nonsense and turned to leave.
But just as his hand closed around the doorknob, a loud, piercing sound of metal striking metal erupted behind him. CLANG, CLANG, CLANG, it rang out ceaselessly.
When Zhang Wenda turned toward the sound, he saw the Fatty furiously smashing the iron door with a rock, a savage grin plastered on his face.
“Guards! Someone’s escaping! Guards!”
Seeing the red figures outside, all of them now alerted, Zhang Wenda felt a blaze of fury ignite within him.
“You want out, do you? Fine! I’ll let you out!” Zhang Wenda transformed into a red blur and shot toward the cell door. With a flash of cold light, the entire gate instantly burst apart.
SQUELCH! The sharp scythe pierced straight through the man’s stomach. Yet, facing death, his eyes held no fear. Instead, he stared at Zhang Wenda with crazed excitement and screamed, “If I can’t get out, then no one can! We’ll all die together!”
With a sickening RIP, Zhang Wenda tore the man’s body in two. The sundered corpse fell to the ground, and the other prisoners, who had been cowering in the cell’s darkness, immediately swarmed it, fighting over the remains.
He had his revenge, but the Big Circle had been alerted. The main door was kicked open, and the monstrous Zhang Wenda instantly became the target. A hail of bullets and poison-tipped wooden spikes rained down on him.
Zhang Wenda’s form flickered, and he became a bolt of red lightning, charging straight into the crowd. Flesh and blood splattered in his wake.
Seeing that he was exposed, Zhang Wenda decided to stop hiding. He threw open all the cell doors and used the ensuing chaos as cover to rush for the exit.
Suddenly, a blue light immobilized Zhang Wenda. It was a Third Line’s Spectral Technique. But as Zhang Wenda glanced at the person holding the flashlight, a blue rabbit manifested behind the man and snapped his neck.
Clearly, as the Big Circle Organization, their methods of attack went beyond conventional weaponry. Even so, these men were no match for Zhang Wenda.
Ever since becoming a 03, Zhang Wenda was on a completely different level. No matter how bizarre their attacks were, to the current Zhang Wenda, they could all be ended with a single swing of his scythe.
After slaughtering his way through and emerging outside the building, Zhang Wenda finally realized just how wide the gap between himself and ordinary people had unknowingly become.
More enemies waited outside the building. Several hundred men holding various weapons surrounded Zhang Wenda in a four-deep, fan-shaped formation. But as they faced the scythe-wielding monster radiating a bloody aura, every one of their faces was grim. It was as if they were the ones who were surrounded.
A bell began to toll, and more and more people started gathering. But for the current Zhang Wenda, this was hardly a threat.
Looking at the crowd closing in, Zhang Wenda felt as if he were looking down at a swarm of ants. Since his cover was completely blown, an idea formed in his mind.
‘If the so-called Big Circle Organization in this swamp is only this strong, then maybe I don’t need a disguise. Maybe I should change the entire plan.’
‘For instance, maybe I could just take on everyone by myself and seize this place for my own.’
Just as Zhang Wenda was entertaining this thought, a splash of purple emerged from the crowd. It was a purple suit on a gaunt man, who was standing on the surface of the water.
He carefully observed the red monster before him, then said after a moment of thought, “I feel like I’ve seen you somewhere before.”
“Heh, is that so?” Zhang Wenda retorted. “It doesn’t matter if you know me. Do you know Qianxi?”
“Of course. She was the nominal leader of our Big Circle, after all.”
“Good. She’s dead. I killed her. So, do any of you want to be next?” Zhang Wenda’s gaze swept over everyone present.
His words caused an uproar, not only among the Big Circle members surrounding him but also among the spectators watching from the nearby buildings.
The words were barely out of his mouth when a ripping sound tore through the air, and several glints of cold light shot toward him from all directions. Zhang Wenda moved fast, his scythe a blur as he parried the spears—each wrapped in a red and blue spiral—that came at him from every angle.
When Zhang Wenda got a look at the peculiar spears, he froze for a second. He felt like he’d seen them somewhere before.
Soon, Zhang Wenda saw someone walking toward him. The man had multi-colored hair and a lip ring. He was rail-thin.
Zhang Wenda recognized him. He was one of the Big Circle’s 03s! The last time he’d seen this man, he and another person were ganging up on Ouyang Shuangdian.
‘So they do have more than just ordinary people running this place. Makes sense for a territory this large.’
His eyes darted between the man in the purple suit and the newcomer, finally settling on the thin man with the lip ring. “What happened to Ouyang Shuangdian? Who won that fight?”
The thin man crossed his arms, a slight smile playing on his lips. He looked at Zhang Wenda and said, “Take a guess.”
