<Chapter - 98 Shattering the Sky Bastions>

The frozen upper atmosphere above the northern sea detonated into a blinding sea of golden divine light.

From the hulls of the six Church dreadnoughts, twelve massive crystalline kinetic lances discharged in unison. Beams of compressed eradication energy—each broad enough to vaporize an entire city block—streaked through the sub-zero clouds, converging straight on the Shadow Vanguard’s high-altitude ironwood skiff. The air warped violently, shrieking under the weight of First Era divine programming designed to disintegrate any unauthorized entity down to its base code.

"Brace for evasive maneuver!" Alistair Vance screamed from the cockpit, furiously slamming mechanical bypass levers as his espresso mug vibrated off the console.

Noah Kurtz did not shift his boots.

He stood casually at the prow, his dark coat rustling in the fierce slipstream. Pinned over his lapel, the ironwood leaf brooch absorbed the golden glare with a quiet, dim luster. Noah didn’t reach for a weapon or weave a complex spell.

Circulate.

Underneath his dark sleeves, his black ironwood forearm guards hummed in a deep, resonant pitch. Inside his meridians, his 3.00% Gold Sovereign Authority surged through the kinetic conduits of his spine.

[Ashen Sovereign Field: Kinetic Dispersion]

An invisible, ripple-less wave of absolute zero-friction authority expanded thirty meters outward from the skiff’s hull.

WHAM—!

The twelve crystalline lances struck the barrier. Yet there was no catastrophic explosion, no splintering of pre-Cataclysm ironwood timbers. The moment the beams of divine light made contact with the Ashen Sovereign Field, the fundamental physics governing their kinetic cohesion were stripped away.

The concentrated eradication beams fragmented into harmless, drifting flakes of golden snow that swirled peacefully around the skiff before dissolving into the freezing sea below.

From the lead dreadnought’s automated bridge, synthetic chimes sputtered with rapid, glitched error alerts:

"ERROR. ANOMALY NULLIFICATION DETECTED. WEAPON VECTOR DEFLECTION RATE: 100%. RE-CALCULATING KINETIC FREQUENCY..."

"My turn," Jiho Park grinned, his droopy eyes suddenly alight with raw, unyielding excitement.

Jiho crouched low on the prow of the skiff, his faded slide sandals digging firmly into the reinforced ironwood deck. He didn’t activate an aura or chant a warrior’s roar. With a single, explosive flex of his monstrous leg muscles, Jiho vaulted off the vessel.

BOOM!

The air behind him shattered in a localized sonic boom as the S-Rank Juggernaut soared across the two-mile aerial gap like a living artillery shell.

He landed on the broad, gold-plated armor plating of the lead Church dreadnought with enough kinetic momentum to tilt the five-hundred-foot warship ten degrees to the port side. Heavy golden plate armor caved inward with a deafening metallic screech.

"INTRUDER ON FORWARD HULL! ENGAGE CLOSE-QUARTERS REPEL PROTOCOL!" automated Church sentinels barked, leveling heavy divine spears.

Jiho didn’t even look at the sentinels. He reached down with his thick, calloused hands, digging his bare fingers directly through three inches of divine tungsten hull plating as easily as plunging a spoon into warm porridge.

"Master said clear the skies," Jiho grumbled sleepily. "You guys are in the way of our flight path."

Jiho planted his heels, locked his hips, and wrenched with his entire physical density.

CRRR-ACK!

With a terrifying roar of pure physical force, Jiho literally tore a forty-foot section of the dreadnought’s armored engine cowling completely off the ship. He spun his broad frame around like a discus thrower and hurled the multi-ton hunk of gold-plated metal straight into the secondary thruster array of the second dreadnought.

KABOOM—!

The second warship’s thruster exploded in a violent fireball, sending the massive vessel into a death spin toward the icy ocean below.

On the deck of the skiff, Chloe Harrington leaned over the port railing, her leather duster whipping in the wind.

Her amber eyes glowed with a sharp, mathematical gold iris as her passive Probability Distortion read the mechanical power conduits of the remaining four dreadnoughts. She drew both dead platinum revolvers in a single, fluid motion, twirling them around her trigger fingers before snapping her wrists forward.

BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!

Chloe fired four unpowered iron rounds into the sky.

The bullets didn’t fly in straight lines. They caught the chaotic atmospheric crosswinds, ricocheting off floating ice crystals and bouncing at impossible seventy-degree angles directly through the optical targeting sensors and cooling vents of the remaining dreadnoughts.

POP-POP-POP-POP!

The four warships’ automated navigation systems short-circuited simultaneously. Their flight stabilizers locked up, their golden shields collapsed, and the vessels began colliding into one another like blind, drunken beetles in a gale.

"Probability vectors resolved," Chloe smirked, casually blowing a wisp of gray smoke from the barrel of her right revolver. "Total clear time: twenty-two seconds. Alistair, steer right through the wreckage before Jiho throws another piece of the hull at us."

"Rerouting thrusters! Full throttle through Sector Zero!" Alistair cheered frantically, pulling the flight yoke.

The skiff glided smoothly through the center of the collapsing fleet.

Jiho made a massive, effortless leap from the sinking lead dreadnought, landing back onto the skiff’s ironwood deck with a soft thud. He shook some ice dust from his sheepskin parka, let out a long yawn, and picked up his metal coffee mug from the floorboards.

"Man," Jiho mumbled, inspecting the rim. "Not a drop spilled. Master, that was a pretty good workout."

"Good form on the throw, Jiho," Noah Kurtz replied smoothly, not taking his hands out of his coat pockets.

Beside him at the prow, Rin Asakura stood with quiet, weightless grace.

Her dark indigo kimono swished gently against her ankles, her wooden practice sword resting undisturbed at her hip. Her pale left hand remained securely entwined with Noah’s right palm.

Through Asura’s Touch, Rin mapped the sky clearing. The dense, choking network of artificial Church code that had blocked their path was completely dismantled, scattering into the wind like dry autumn leaves.

Yet, as the last pieces of the dreadnoughts plunged into the sea, Rin felt the air ahead shift into something far deeper, colder, and infinitely more ancient.

The skiff crossed the final atmospheric threshold of the seventy-fifth parallel.

Directly ahead, rising out of the frozen northern ocean, was a sight that defied the natural order of the world.

A colossal, monolithic spire of black pre-Cataclysm basalt and glowing iridescent data streams pierced the cloud layer, stretching thousands of feet into the upper stratosphere. Surrounding the base of the spire was a perfectly circular, calm sea of liquid mercury that reflected no shadows.

The Primordial Cradle—the physical mainframe where the International System was first coded, and where the core reality of the world was governed.

Rin’s breath caught softly in her throat. Through their entwined hands, she felt Noah’s Silver-Tier Ki loop and Gold Sovereign authority resonating with the monolithic spire.

She turned her blindfolded face toward him, her pale lips parting softly as she leaned her cheek lightly against his coat sleeve.

"We have reached the beginning of the world, Noah..." Rin whispered softly, her melodic, formal cadence carrying an intimate, breathtaking warmth that touched his ear. "Its pulse is vast... but it is empty of a heart."

Noah looked down at her blindfolded face, his steel-gray eyes softening with an absolute, unshakeable tenderness that belonged solely to her. He raised his hand, gently caressing her cheek with his warm fingers, before tightening his grip around her delicate palm.

"Then we’ll give it a heart, Rin," Noah spoke softly, his flat, calm voice carrying an ancient, unbreakable promise. "And when this day ends... you and I will walk under an open sky that belongs to no machine."

Rin’s pale lips curved into a breathtaking, beautiful smile under the iridescent light of the spire.

"Wherever your boots touch the earth, Noah..." Rin murmured, her fingers wrapping with unyielding devotion around his, "my sword and my soul will follow."

Behind them, Jiho picked up his massive duffel bag, Chloe flipped her silver coin into her pocket, and Alistair cut the skiff’s thrusters as the vessel glided smoothly onto the silent, mercury shores of the Cradle.

The final gate of the world was open—and Noah Kurtz was ready to face the architect of the System.
