Infinite Mana In The Apocalypse

Chapter 5285: Causal Stilling! III

Chapter 5285: Causal Stilling! III

Standard Absolute Infinity is the total and unrestricted expression of Infinity in its most complete form, acknowledging no ceiling and no boundary.

In its standard definition, Absolute Infinity achieves totality by removing all limitations including the identity of the being expressing it. This is not a flaw in the definition. It is a necessary condition of absoluteness, since any identity imposes a perspective, and perspective is a limitation.

Osmontian Absolute Infinity operates on a different definitional foundation. The identity of Noah Osmont is not a limitation imposed on the Absolute expression. It is a specification of which Absolute expression this is. Osmontian Absolute Infinity is the complete and unrestricted expression of Infinity as it exists through the specific nature of Noah Osmont’s existence, with his tyranny, his harvest, his paradoxical cheating, his nine Prime Cause integrations, and his foundational Civilizations all present as components of the Infinity rather than as constraints on it.

The practical consequence: where standard Absolute Infinity would express itself as an undifferentiated total, Osmontian Absolute Infinity expresses itself as a total that carries Noah Osmont’s identity through every coordinate it occupies. Force directed against him encounters not merely Infinity but Infinity organized around and through his specific identity.

Momentum directed against him is redirected not by a barrier but by an Infinity that understands what it is protecting and has built that understanding into its expression.

Power that attempts to infiltrate his foundations finds an Infinity that is his identity, and his identity is not something the infiltrating power can occupy because his identity is already there.

The Ealdor-class Existential Acedia Ordnance effects function by finding the capacity for change in a target’s foundations and removing it. Osmontian Absolute Infinity presents no capacity for change that the Stilling can locate, because the Infinity is not a static architecture with changeable components.

It is a dynamic expression of a living identity that changes as the identity changes, meaning the Stilling cannot find a stable target within it. The infection mechanism of the Existential Acedia Dredges functions by binding into foundational substrate. Osmontian Absolute Infinity is not substrate. It is expressed identity, and identity cannot be bound by a condition that requires something static to bind to.

The Ordnance effects have been denied entirely. Your foundations are unaffected.

Observable Existence analysis: comprehensive degradation confirmed across all regions. The Causal Stilling is active in every surveyed coordinate. Lifeform conversion to Existential Acedia Dredge state is estimated above ninety nine percent of the total prior population.

Remaining unconverted existences are either fighting active infection or operating with protection that the Ordnances were not calibrated to overcome. Observable Existence is functionally non-operational as a domain supporting standard cultivation or living activity. The Stilling is permanent without Source-level intervention.

...!

The prompts were heavy!

He walked, and he did so with purpose towards...a friend.

He crossed distances the way he crossed distances now, with the understanding that distance was a suggestion his Infinity could decline.

The space between his arrival point and Alexander’s position compressed into the number of steps he chose to take rather than the number the geography required.

Alexander was seated on what had been a Shelter of THE Loom.

There was no shelter left. There were the remnants of one, the architectural bones of something that had been built to endure and had encountered an ordnance that had not cared about durability.

Alexander sat on its largest surviving fragment with the posture of someone who had stopped trying to hold themselves upright.

The silver-gold of the Acedia Infection ran through him visibly.

It moved in pulses from his extremities toward his core, each pulse pushing deeper than the last, his body fighting the progression with the Infinity from the Enneagram on his chest blazing against it in multicolored bursts that arrived and faded and arrived again.

His eyes held recognition when they found Noah, which meant there was still something operating behind them that the infection hadn’t reached yet, but the recognition shared space with the flat purposeless expression of the conversion, the two states alternating through his face in the horror of a being who could feel themselves becoming something else and couldn’t stop it.

He looked at Noah.

He opened his mouth.

"I...always believed I was the center of my own story."

"That I could do great things. That my future held unbound glory for me to discover. It felt true. It felt like something that couldn’t be argued with because when you look at your own existence from the inside, it always looks like the center."

He paused as a pulse of silver-gold moved through his arm and he pushed back against it with the Infinity blazing from the Enneagram, the effort visible in the tension across his face.

"I sought peace above everything else. For the sake of peace, I wanted to grasp as much power as I could so that my peace would hold regardless of what existence decided to do around me. So even after setbacks, even after Beowulf put me through things I don’t speak about, I didn’t give up. I received Infinity as a gift and I was grateful for it."

His eyes held Noah’s as they shook. "But I didn’t want to stay inside THE Infiniverse. I wanted to seek my own fortune. My own power. All because of my pride."

He touched his chest.

The Enneagram blazed under his hand.

"I have my family inside here. Every person I made a promise to, every being who trusted that being near me meant they were safer than they would have been alone. I... put them all in grave danger."

The words came out with the self-devastation of someone stating a fact they can’t argue themselves out of. "I used every ounce of the gifted Infinity in my existence to protect this, to make sure the infection didn’t spread into them. To make sure what happened to me didn’t happen to the ones inside."

He looked at the Enneagram for a moment.

"I...am done. I am...done. I didn’t want to put my safety in the hands of another, and because of that, I endangered the ones closest to me. Please."

He looked at Noah.

"Can you ensure their safety? I am already infected. I don’t..."

He shook his head.

The motion was half voluntary and half the specific tremor of a body that had been fighting an infection for too long and was fighting harder in some moments than others.

He pressed his hand into his chest and the Enneagram resisted being removed for a moment, the connection between it and his foundations running deep enough that separating them hurt in ways he didn’t express, and then he pressed harder and it came free and he held it out!

Noah took it!
