Chapter 233: Chapter 196: Plotting for the World Tree Seed
Delgar City.
As the capital of the Logan Kingdom, one of the seven nations of the Arcane Federation, the city was quite luxuriously constructed.
The influence of Extraordinary Power could be seen in virtually all of its architecture.
This was especially true of the massive Royal Palace.
Its height exceeded seven hundred meters.
It wasn’t that they couldn’t have built it higher, but there was likely no point in continuing upward.
Of course, it was still a far cry from the Quad-Pole Floating City of the past.
And it couldn’t compare to the Supreme Capital, either.
Still, for a world with relatively backward technology, it was quite impressive.
After the Starship was shrunk down, Dugu Yunfeng carried it, and the personnel inside rested for the time being.
Meanwhile, Zhang Ji, along with Balder and Dugu Yunfeng, prepared to enter the city.
Outside the city walls stood guards in full plate armor. Their strength was considerable, at the Grandmaster level.
You couldn’t be a Royal Capital guard without some serious skill.
Balder presented a golden card.
It was an identification card held only by honorary members of the Alchemist Association—and a Master Level Alchemist at that.
There was no networked information system here to check against, but after confirming the card’s authenticity, the guards didn’t stop them, respectfully allowing the three to enter the city.
Zhang Ji extended his Spirit slightly, easily gathering a vast amount of information. He felt as relaxed as if he were here on vacation.
With his current power, there were indeed very few things in this world that could threaten him.
Although there were super S-class Demigods, most of them did not reside in this plane of existence. Instead, they were in the Divine Realm created by the Demigods, and they did not interfere in the affairs of the mortal world.
They waged proxy wars, and the average person wasn’t even aware if gods truly existed.
It was a balance no one was willing to break.
After all, Demigods were still gods. If they were to truly fight on Lan’er World, countless intelligent lives would be annihilated in an instant.
The efficiency with which they gathered faith would also be greatly reduced.
Gods of a faith-based system, before establishing their own independent Divine Country, placed great importance on their followers.
However, there were exceptions.
If truly pushed to the brink, they would still fight, regardless of how many followers died.
Balder owned property here—and not a small one, either. It was a rather luxurious, large manor, maintained by a considerable number of servants.
Zhang Ji and Dugu Yunfeng arrived in a horse-drawn carriage.
After they entered the manor’s castle, Balder gave an order, and the kitchen staff immediately got busy.
Zhang Ji was in no hurry. Enjoying the local culture and customs was one of the reasons he had come.
"This is a sweet sauce, and the meat is from a Horned Hound... And this here is a wine I brewed myself. I call it ’Journey of No Return’..."
After the food was served, Balder dismissed the servants and personally attended to Zhang Ji and Dugu Yunfeng.
Dugu Yunfeng’s expression remained largely unchanged. He ate methodically, listening to Balder’s descriptions without saying a word.
As for Zhang Ji, his eyes were filled with nostalgia.
He was once again reminded of his memories of playing the game.
’Back then, how many Magic Crystals did it cost to eat a meal like this?’
’It must have been at least twenty-something Blue Demon Crystals, right?’
But he didn’t dwell on the past and quickly finished his meal.
Then, Zhang Ji said to Balder, "You should sit down as well."
"Your Excellency is merciful," Balder said, performing a salute.
"Your arrival on Origin Star was an accident, but a fortunate one. Working for me won’t be worse than fending for yourself. I know you have the ambition to become a legend, and that’s good. Now, there is something I need you to do," Zhang Ji said. "If you succeed, I can promise you a portion of the proxy rights in this world."
"Balder Morton, at Your Excellency’s command!"
Upon hearing this, Balder could barely contain the joy in his eyes. He quickly rose from his seat, knelt on one knee, and pledged his loyalty to Zhang Ji.
Zhang Ji paid no mind to his use of the wrong etiquette and said directly, "You will handle the negotiations with the Logan Kingdom. To ensure things go smoothly, I will have Dugu Saint King accompany you. Also, I need you to find the location of the ancient capital ruins of the Su Ya Empire."
"The Su Ya Empire?"
The name sounded familiar to Balder. Then, as if remembering something, a ripple went through his heart.
Outwardly, however, he maintained his composure and nodded in acknowledgment to Zhang Ji.
...
After Dugu Yunfeng and Balder left, Zhang Ji stood in a room in the castle, gazing into the distance.
The Su Ya Empire was a great empire from this world’s ancient past that had nearly conquered the world.
They had attempted something truly monumental.
They planned to emulate the True Gods of old, create a new world to serve as a Divine Country, and perform a ritual of ascension.
The King of Su Ya, a being known as the Divine Emperor, was the core of this ritual.
But they failed.
And in doing so, they triggered a cataclysm that nearly destroyed the world.
Much of the information about it has been obscured in the historical records, perhaps deliberately buried by someone.
All that is known is that in that moment, it seemed a true god was born, but the attempt ultimately failed due to something being missing.
However, the Su Ya Empire left behind two things.
Two very special items.
The first was a seed of the World Tree.
Although this seed was only of (Legendary) grade.
But its potential was extremely high. A complete World Tree, a true peak (Myth) creation, could stabilize the workings of an entire world, allowing it to become a self-sustaining cycle.
The second was the core of a Divine Country.
