Chapter 487: Chapter 487: Lucky Charm

Sean Chandler nodded without objection.

Paul Payne wanted to go out and find Treasure Chests too, but he knew he was too weak right now. Sticking with Sean Chandler was the safer option.

Freya Lynn, however, was a little unhappy. "I want to go find Treasure Chests, too..."

"Be good," Crystal Lynn said, crouching down to give her a kiss. "I’ll take you next time.

It’s too hot outside, and you’re still little. You wouldn’t be able to handle it."

Freya Lynn pouted but still nodded obediently.

The groups were decided.

Seraphina Sullivan and Flora Sullivan were the first to get out of the RV.

A wave of scorching heat washed over them as they stepped outside, but the Insulation Suits really worked, and the temperature they felt dropped instantly.

Flora Sullivan let out a whistle.

From the darkness nearby, a colossal Four Seasons Deer—the alpha—approached with elegant strides.

Its coat had completely transformed into its summer state. It was a vibrant, almost glowing emerald green, and every strand of fur quivered faintly, emitting a cool Aura.

Flora Sullivan vaulted onto the deer’s back and held out her hand.

Seraphina Sullivan took her hand and, with a light leap, landed behind her.

"Let’s go!"

The Four Seasons Deer Alpha raised its head with a low cry. With a light tap of its hooves, it transformed into a streak of green light, racing toward the nearest meteor crash site.

Behind them, Dexter Luther and Crystal Lynn followed on another Four Seasons Deer.

Further back, the RV slowly started up. Sean Chandler was at the wheel, driving Paul Payne, Matthew Dawson, and Freya Lynn in another direction.

In the darkness of the night, several figures sped toward their separate destinies.

The Four Seasons Deer Alpha’s speed was astounding.

Its emerald form darted through the night, hooves barely touching the ground, each leap covering several meters.

Seraphina Sullivan and Flora Sullivan clung tightly to its back, the wind howling in their ears.

But the wind was scalding. In the extreme heat of this cataclysm, even the breeze felt searing hot.

’If it weren’t for the Insulation Suit, I wouldn’t be able to stand this heat either,’ Seraphina Sullivan thought.

’I wonder how other people are getting around.’

She, Dexter Luther, and the others had an advantage with their Insulation Suits.

"There!" Flora Sullivan suddenly pointed ahead and to the right.

Seraphina Sullivan followed her gaze.

In a patch of wasteland bathed in moonlight, a chest half the height of a person lay silently.

It was bathed in a faint golden glow, a light that wasn’t a reflection of the moon but emanated from the chest itself.

It was like the residual warmth of a freshly fallen meteor, or perhaps some higher Power announcing its presence.

"It’s a Treasure Chest!" Flora Sullivan was so excited she almost jumped off the deer’s back.

The Four Seasons Deer Alpha understood immediately. It kicked off its hooves and charged straight for it.

The two vaulted off the deer and ran up to the Treasure Chest.

The Treasure Chest was far more exquisite than Seraphina Sullivan had imagined.

It wasn’t an ordinary wooden or iron box, but was made of some indescribable, semi-transparent material. Complex Energy patterns flowed across its surface, making it seem like a living creature, breathing slowly.

"Don’t just stand there," Seraphina Sullivan told Flora Sullivan. "Keep watch."

Flora Sullivan immediately suppressed her excitement. She turned to face the darkness, raising her hands slightly as the tips of her hair began to emit a green glow.

Seraphina Sullivan took a deep breath and placed her hand on the Treasure Chest.

[Ding! Opening Event Treasure Chest...]

The chest’s lid slid open silently. The faint golden light flared violently before completely vanishing in less than a second.

Inside the chest, only one thing remained.

A pendant.

It was a very ordinary-looking pendant: a silver chain with a thumb-sized charm. Inlaid in the charm was a transparent little stone that seemed to hold a swirling galaxy within.

As Seraphina Sullivan picked it up, a system prompt sounded:

[Congratulations! You have obtained the special item: Lucky Charm!]

[Lucky Charm]

[Type: Accessory/Luck-type Item]

[Effect: Permanently increases the wearer’s Luck by 2 when equipped.]

[Note: Luck is the scarcest resource in this world.]

Seraphina Sullivan stared at the pendant, silent for three seconds.

"That’s it...? Just one thing?"

She didn’t know if she should consider herself lucky or unlucky.

On the one hand, she couldn’t call it unlucky. The Treasure Chest had yielded an item, and a pretty good one at that—she’d never seen an item that increased Luck before.

If she were to trade it, she could definitely get a lot of good stuff in return.

On the other hand... one Treasure Chest, and only a single item.

She sighed and put the lucky charm on.

"Better than nothing."

She raised her head and looked at the night sky.

The magnificent meteor shower had vanished completely.

The sky had returned to the darkness befitting the apocalypse, with only a few real stars twinkling faintly in the distance.

"It’s over already?" Flora Sullivan looked up too. "We only found one!"

Seraphina Sullivan didn’t answer.

She knew this was only the beginning.

For three days, the entire world would be searching for Treasure Chests.

No matter how powerful she was, she couldn’t possibly claim all the rewards for herself.

But every one she found, every one she snatched, was a victory.

She waved her hand.

Two flashes of light appeared, and two round, plump figures materialized out of thin air.

Chubbs and Tubbs.

The moment the two fat chickens appeared, they immediately went into public-display-of-affection mode.

"CLUCK CLUCK CLUCK!" (Wifey! We’re finally out!)

"CLUCK—CLUCK!" (Hubby! I can feel it!)

The Steel Chicken and the Flame Chicken pressed their heads together, rubbing their wings against each other. Their sappy display made a vein throb on Seraphina Sullivan’s temple.

"Enough."

She thumped Chubbs on the head.

"CLUCK!" Chubbs cried out, covering his head pitifully.

Tubbs immediately flew to her husband’s defense. "CLUCK CLUCK CLUCK!" (Master, why’d you hit Chubbs?! What if you make him stupid?)

Seraphina Sullivan shot them an irritated glare. "Get to work. Help me find Treasure Chests. There’s a reward if you do."

"CLUCK!" (Roger that!)

The two fat chickens immediately snapped to attention, wings pressed tightly to their sides in a perfect "Yes, ma’am!" pose.

Seraphina Sullivan didn’t stop.

She took a deep breath, her mind reaching out—the [Bird Manipulation Technique] activated!

She also called upon the pigeons that Chubbs and Tubbs had raised on the Scavenger’s Farm.

In the darkness, countless birds raised their heads in unison, their eyes flashing with a faint glimmer.

They flapped their wings, taking to the sky and scattering in all directions.

Then, she waved her hand.

These pigeons were all under Seraphina Sullivan’s Control. They circled once in the air, then flew off into the distance.

She then activated her [Pelican’s Eye], sharing the vision of the controlled birds to expand her search area.

The fat pigeons also "CLUCK"-ed and flew away.

In an instant, the skies and the ground were filled with her "eyes."

Seraphina Sullivan stood on the wasteland, her eyes closed, as countless points of view flooded her mind like a tidal wave.

The crash sites of the meteors, the glow of Treasure Chests, and—

—those colossal monsters, radiating a terrifying Aura.

Lord Level.

She opened her eyes, a slight smile playing on her lips.

"Let’s begin."
