Infinite Disasters: I Hoarded My Way to Godhood
Chapter 483: Death and Departure
Chapter 483: Chapter 483: Death and Departure
In response to her concern, Seraphina Sullivan glanced over, her smile unchanged.
"Don’t worry," she said. "Not anymore."
She didn’t explain why.
Because by now, Connor Webb would probably never get the chance to see anyone ever again.
...
「The Trade District.」
Connor Webb lay on the ground, his face a bloody mess, yet he still wore that repulsive, arrogant smirk.
Simon Lewis stood before him, a short sword in hand, its tip pointed at the center of his forehead.
"You don’t really think you can kill me, do you?"
Connor Webb grinned, baring his blood-stained teeth.
"I have plenty of lives. Kill me once, and one of my wives dies.
Kill me ten times, and ten of my wives die.
I’ve got wives to spare. Can you kill them all?"
Hearing this, the faces of the people around them changed.
’What kind of twisted Ability is that?’
Simon Lewis’s face was blank, his eyes vacant.
The next second—
The sword in his hand plunged directly into the center of Connor Webb’s forehead!
"SQUELCH!"
The short sword ran straight through his skull, the tip bursting out from the back of his head!
Connor Webb’s smile froze on his face.
Then, he waited for the familiar "pain transfer" to occur, waited for his wounds to vanish, waited to get back up and mock this madman.
But—
Nothing.
Absolutely nothing.
The searing pain of his skull being split apart exploded within him, horrifyingly real!
His body began to twitch, his limbs convulsing. The Aura of his life poured out of him like a flood from a broken dam!
"Th-This... How is this possible?!"
Connor Webb’s eyes bulged, almost bursting from their sockets. "My Harem! My scapegoats! Why... Why didn’t it work?!"
No one answered him.
Simon Lewis expressionlessly withdrew the short sword.
Connor Webb’s corpse fell rigidly to the ground, twitched a few times, and then moved no more.
The area fell deathly silent.
Everyone stared blankly at the scene, unable to believe their eyes.
’The infamous Connor Webb, who ran rampant through the base with his dozen or so lives... was dead? Just like that?’
’Was it really that simple?’
Simon Lewis stood in place, looking down at the short sword in his hand. Deep within his pupils, a hint of pink light slowly faded away.
Then he lifted his head and looked around in a daze.
"I... What did I just do?"
But everyone was captivated by Connor Webb’s death, and no one noticed the black figure that quickly darted across his stall.
A cat snatched up all three item cards.
...
Meanwhile, Seraphina Sullivan strolled out of the main gate of the underground area, her steps light as she cradled a cat in her arms.
Behind her, the chaos was just beginning.
She didn’t look back.
Dexter Luther, Crystal Lynn, Freya Lynn, Matthew Dawson, Paul Payne, and Flora Sullivan were already waiting for her in the cultivation zone.
"You’re finally back!" Crystal Lynn ran over, grabbing her hand and looking her over from top to bottom. "Are you okay? Are you hurt?"
"I’m fine," Seraphina Sullivan smiled. "It’s all over."
Dexter Luther breathed a sigh of relief, then immediately frowned. "So, what’s next..."
"Get ready to leave," Seraphina Sullivan said. "We’re going now."
No one objected.
They had already planned this.
As soon as Connor Webb was dealt with, they would leave Central Base.
It didn’t matter if that high-level official, Shawn Gardner, would trace it back to them. The priority was to leave.
The RV was already prepared.
The group quickly piled in, and Seraphina Sullivan started the engine, driving toward the base exit.
At the exit, a few guards watched the RV drive out and exchanged looks.
"In the middle of the night? The first wave of the extreme temperature disaster just passed, and they’re running out there? Have they got a death wish?"
"What’s it to us? If they want to go out and die, why stop them?"
"True."
They gave a lazy wave, signaling for the RV to pass.
The RV drove out of the base gates and into the wasteland, which was shrouded in intense heat.
Without an upgraded RV, the tires alone would have been melted to bursting by the hot ground in this weather.
But Seraphina Sullivan’s vehicle was clearly no ordinary machine. Its heavy tires rolled over the scorching ground, driving steadily onward.
Inside the RV, the air conditioning was running at full blast, making it as cool as a spring day.
Flora Sullivan leaned against the window, watching Central Base recede into the distance. "We finally left that godforsaken place," she whispered.
Seraphina Sullivan didn’t say anything, merely glancing at the rearview mirror.
In the mirror, the silhouette of Central Base grew smaller and smaller, finally disappearing into the vast darkness.
’The road ahead was unknown, but at least they were free.’
"I can’t believe we got out of Central Base so easily."
Crystal Lynn leaned on the windowsill, watching the base’s outline grow blurrier behind them, her tone still laced with a sense of unreality.
Paul Payne, sitting nearby, responded, "Central Base is actually managed very strictly. Under normal circumstances, you couldn’t get out even if you wanted to.
But now, because of the extreme temperature disaster, they’ve pretty much abandoned all control on the surface.
Most people are hiding in the underground areas or the Sky City, so who has the mind to manage things on the surface?"
He paused, then added, "By the way, what exactly is the Sky City like? I’ve been in the underground areas the whole time and never been up, so I have no idea what it’s like inside."
Now that he knew Connor Webb had been killed, Paul Payne felt a great sense of relief. Although he hadn’t personally avenged his sister and niece, he felt that justice had been served.
So he was in the mood to ask some of the questions on his mind.
Sean Chandler, who was driving, rarely spoke up voluntarily. "The base’s segregation is that strict. Anyone who can live in the Sky City must be a big shot."
Seraphina Sullivan leaned against the window, watching the distant steel skyline blur, feeling a bit wistful.
’All told, she hadn’t even stayed in Central Base for long.’
’She’d originally thought they could settle down here for a while. And what was the result?’
’First she ran into a pervert like Connor Webb, then provoked that princeling Ethan Soto, then got caught up in the factional struggles of the leadership, and finally had to resort to secretly eliminating Connor Webb and fleeing in the middle of the night.’
’There was just no staying in that place.’
"Where are we going now?"
A small voice piped up.
Seraphina Sullivan turned her head to see Freya Lynn, who was being held in Crystal Lynn’s arms, staring at her with wide eyes.
The little girl probably hadn’t fully grasped the situation yet. She only knew she was following her sister out to "play" and had no idea this was a journey of escape.
Seraphina Sullivan’s tone softened without her realizing it. "We’re going to find a safe place to stay.
It’s already this hot at night during the extreme temperature disaster. Once the sun comes up in the daytime, the temperature will be even more terrifying.
We need to use the night to find a place where we can settle down long-term."
She glanced out the RV window.
The Four Seasons Deer Herd was running alongside the RV.
After being trained by Flora Sullivan for some time, the huge creatures had completely accepted her as their master. Wherever she went, they followed.
The sight of over a dozen giant, green deer running through the night was quite spectacular.
...
「Meanwhile, inside Central Base.」
Shawn Gardner stood in his office, his face so grim you could practically wring water from it.
"What in the world is going on?!"
He slammed a hand on his desk, making the teacup jump. "How is it all bad news?!"
The subordinates standing before him kept their heads down, barely daring to breathe.
"Connor Webb is dead!
We just received word—he died in the trade district, killed in public by Simon Lewis of the Hounds!"
