Chapter 39: [38]: The 500 KP Threshold, VIP Shop Unlocked

  • Next Chapter

Six days.

Six days of fighting blindfolded in the Warrens’ narrow tunnel, fighting Rank 3 monsters one after another, hour after hour. He generated bad luck like a worker on an assembly line. Alvian’s body was covered in healing bruises and small cuts. His VIT 62 healed the damage, but he was very tired. His muscles hurt with every move. His reactions were a little slower. His Danger Sense kept buzzing weakly in the background, but he ignored it.

The Pity Accelerator was key. He bought one every day for 5 KP. It doubled his KP from rolls below 5x for 24 hours. The cost was well worth it.

Day one. Dawn. Blindfold. Narrow tunnel. Thirty kills, twenty-four rolls below 5x, forty-eight KP gained. Five KP spent on the next Accelerator. Total profit: forty-three KP. Total points went from 63 to 111.

Day two. Same tunnel. Same blindfold. Same monsters. Same result. 111 to 154.

Day three. His body hurt. A Stonehide Lizard hit his ribs with its tail. An Ironjaw Alpha bit his arm. But his KP kept growing. 154 to 192.

Days four to six blurred together. The Warrens became his whole world. The narrow tunnel was his workplace. The Rank 3 monsters were his coworkers, and he killed them all calmly and quickly.

192 to 235. 235 to 278. 278 to 320.

Three hundred twenty. Still 180 short.

’Not fast enough,’ he thought on the evening of day six. He sat in his room, his blindfold around his neck. His hands were raw, with scabbed knuckles. Martha slept in the corner, breathing smoothly. Leo had drawn stick-figure warriors all over the wall, each holding a glowing sword.

On the morning of day seven, the System sent a message.

[DING!]

[Karma Point threshold approaching (300+).]

[New Shop items unlocked.]

[New Item: Pity Surge (Passive Boost)]

[Cost: 50 KP]

[Effect: Triples KP gain from sub-5x rolls. Permanent passive effect. One-time purchase.]

[Note: The System rewards persistence. Even the sad kind.]

Alvian looked at the message. Triples KP gain. Forever. Three KP per low roll instead of one. With a Pity Accelerator active, he would get six KP per roll.

He bought it immediately.

[Item Acquired: Pity Surge (Passive). KP: 320 → 270.]

The passive boost settled into his System interface like warm heat. From now on, every roll below 5x gave three times more Karma Points.

He went back down to the Warrens for day seven. The tunnel. The blindfold. The monsters. But now, every kill gave six KP instead of two.

Twenty-eight kills. Twenty-four low rolls. One hundred forty-four KP.

His total jumped from 270 to 414.

Day eight. He was back in the tunnel before sunrise. His body hurt terribly, but his INT 22 did the math. He needed eighty-six more KP. That meant fourteen low rolls at six KP each.

He fought for six hours. Rank 3 creatures came at him one by one through the narrow space. He killed them with Clearwater Palm and bare fists. He took hits he could have avoided on purpose, fighting poorly to keep his rolls low.

[DING!]

[Kill: Corrupted Sludge Crawler. Roll: 2x. KP +6.]

[DING!]

[Kill: Ironjaw Alpha Rat. Roll: 1x. KP +6.]

[DING!]

[Kill: Stonehide Lizard. Roll: 3x. KP +6.]

Roll after roll. Kill after kill. The KP counter climbed steadily.

Two more. He needed two more.

A Corrupted Sludge Crawler ran out of the dark. He hit its face with Clearwater Palm, acid burning through its eye. It died.

[DING!]

[Kill: Corrupted Sludge Crawler. Roll: 4x. KP +6. Current KP: 504.]

Five hundred four. He made it.

He killed one more just to be safe.

[DING!]

[Kill: Stonehide Lizard. Roll: 2x. KP +6. Current KP: 510.]

Then came the message he had waited eight days to see.

[DING!]

[Karma Point threshold reached (500 KP cumulative).]

[VIP System Shop Tab Unlocked.]

[Congratulations, Host. You have turned eight days of terrible luck into a strategic asset. The System is genuinely impressed. Or possibly amused. Both are valid responses.]

The VIP Shop appeared in his interface. It was a separate tab marked with a gold symbol. The store had very few items, but they were very powerful.

└─────────────────┘

Alvian looked at the Fate’s Loaded Dice. Five hundred KP. He had 510.

The Concept Override Token caught his eye. Two thousand KP. Locked. This tool would let him fight conceptual monsters like Fate Enforcers. It was far out of reach now, but with Pity Surge, he could get it if he kept farming.

Not today. Today was for the Dice.

He bought it.

[Item Acquired: Fate’s Loaded Dice.]

[KP: 510 → 10.]

[Description: Guarantees the next roll will be at least Epic (1,000x - 5,000x). Activates automatically on the next multiplier roll, regardless of context. Single use.]

[Warning: Choose your moment wisely, Host. The universe does not appreciate being loaded.]

A new icon showed up in his System inventory. A small 3D die glowing with colorful light. Each side showed a different multiplier symbol. He could feel its energy through his Talent, a warm pulse in his hand.

Five hundred bad luck moments had been turned into one single guaranteed good roll.

He walked out of the Warrens. His body moved automatically while his mind did calculations.

Over eight days, he had gained about 30,000 EXP from farming. Low multipliers meant low EXP, but he had killed many monsters. He put all of it into VIT.

[Allocating 30,000 EXP from Bank...]

[VIT: 62 → 68]

[HP pool increased: 124 → 136]

[Flesh Limit expanded: ~4,000 → ~4,500 safe absorption]
