Chapter 113: A Silver Spear, Is this the Passion Sect’s grand plan? It seems... a bit fragile
Time passed quickly. For an entire day, the underground cave was filled with the work related of formation.
The final preparations went incredibly smooth. The blood runes glowed with a ominous light and the spiritual energy vortex above the central platform remained perfectly stable. Nothing seemed capable of obstructing the array’s progress.
Standing at the edge of the platform was a middle aged man with a gloomy look and a scar across his face. This was Overseer Zhao, the person in charge for this entire mission.
His aura was deep and vast, fluctuating at the Peak of the Foundation Establishment realm. In fact, his Qi was so condensed that it was already half step into the Core Formation realm. If this plan succeeded, he would definitely break through and become a true Core Formation Realm expert.
"Excellent," Overseer Zhao said. "The array is completely stable. Mo Feng, Liu Ruyan, you have done a good job."
Mo Feng and Liu Ruyan immediately bowed. "All thanks to Overseer Zhao’s guidance and the sect’s resources."
Overseer Zhao nodded, his eyes sweeping over the more than hundred Passion Sect disciples in the cave. "You might wonder why the sect chose Blackstone Mountain for this mission, even though it is so far from our territory and the Cloudwater Sect’s borders."
He pointed toward the ceiling, as if looking through the rock to the mountain above. "It is because of the Spirit Beasts. Blackstone Mountain is vast and majorly untouched area. It harbors an incredible number of Spirit Beasts, from the lowest tier to even some high tier ones. Once this array reaches its final stage, it won’t just refine these Cloudwater trash. It will expand and devour the vitality of every single living creature on this mountain."
Liu Ruyan’s eyes lit up. "So, the sheer amount of pure essence will act as a supreme tonic for all of us and if we take in consideration blood energy, then over a hundred of us here, everyone’s cultivation will soar."
"Exactly," Overseer Zhao sneered. "And there is more to it. If the blood energy is too massive, then the excess amount will spread through out the earth’s veins. It will drive the remaining Spirit Beasts mad, triggering into a massive Beast Tide. That tide will wash over the Cloudwater Sect’s territory, dealing a significant amount of damage to their resources and manpower."
Mo Feng laughed excitedly. "We get our breakthroughs, the Beast Tide weakens the Cloudwater Sect and we finally get our revenge for what they did to us. This is truly killing three birds with one arrow! Just thinking about it makes my blood boil with excitement."
"Indeed," Overseer Zhao said, his tone turning solemn and ambitious. "But remember, this is only the first part of the grand plan. Does the other three bases reported in?"
Mo Feng quickly took out a communication jade slip. "Reporting to Overseer, the other three bases have finished their work. Their nodes are also fully operational."
"Good." Overseer Zhao’s eyes flashed with a fanatic light. "This Blackstone Mountain node is just one piece. Once all of the four parts are activated, they will combine in the sky to form a legendary Tier 5 Blood Sea Soul Locking Grand Formation. At that point, we will be unstoppable. No matter how many disciples or which Core Formation Realm elder the Cloudwater Sect sends, they will only have one fate, that is to become nourishment for our formation."
Liu Ruyan took a slow breath, trying to calm herself down. "The Sect Master has poured massive amount of resources into this. If we succeed, our Passion Sect will finally shed our Mid Tier Sect rank and we will officially become a High Tier Sect, and with the resources from the Cloudwater Sect, we can even aim for the Top Tier position and eventually becoming the overload of this continent.
The sects of the cultivation world were strictly divided into Low Tier, Mid Tier, High Tier and the legendary Top Tier. Rising from one rank to another was never as simple as gaining more disciples or accumulating greater resources. A sect needed enough powerful cultivators to support its status, along with a foundation strong enough to stand against other sects of the same level.
For a Mid Tier sect to rise to the High Tier was therefore incredibly difficult. It required not only greater numbers and resources, but also cultivators whose strength could truly match the standards of a High Tier sect.
And today, they stood on that turning point.
"Enough talk," Overseer Zhao commanded, his voice turning cold. "The time has come. Throw the unconscious Cloudwater Sect disciples into the core and start the final refinement."
"Yes!"
Several disciples dragged the captured Cloudwater Sect disciples toward the central platform. They were roughly thrown into the blood red light of the array’s core.
"Begin!" Liu Ruyan shouted, forming a hand seal.
The array began to tremble as blood red light spread across it, surrounding the unconscious captives.
Their bodies shook as their Pure Essence and blood vitality were drawn out. Golden and red energy slowly left their bodies, flowing toward the formation nodes and disappearing into the array.
However, just a few moments later, the array suddenly stuttered.
Crack
A sharp, unnatural sound echoed through the cave. The blood red light flickered violently, shifting from a deep crimson to a chaotic, unstable purple.
"What’s happening?!" Mo Feng shouted, his face changing.
"The spiritual flow... it’s reversing!" a disciple controlling one of the node screamed in terror. "The energy is rejecting the core!"
"Stabilize it! Push more spiritual energy into the—" Overseer Zhao roared.
BOOM
But before he could finish his words, the central platform exploded and a massive shockwave of chaotic blood Qi swept through the cavern.
"Arrgghh!"
The dozens of disciples controlling the outer nodes instantly suffered a severe backlash. They spat out mouthfuls of black blood, their meridians tearing as they collapsed to the ground, writhing in agony.
Overseer Zhao, Mo Feng, and Liu Ruyan, being the core members, managed to circulate their Qi to block the blast, but they were still heavily injured and were blasted dozens of meters backward, crashing into the stone walls. Overseer Zhao coughed up a large pool of blood, his previously stable half step Core Formation Realm aura fluctuated wildly as he barely stabilized himself.
"What... what went wrong?!" Overseer Zhao wiped the blood from his mouth, his eyes widen with shock and panic. The array was perfectly balanced, how could it burst?!
Before anyone could answer, a piercing whistling sound suddenly erupted from the tunnel entrance.
Swoosh
A blinding silver light broke through the dust and smoke like a meteor.
It was a spear shot through the air, twisting and changing direction unpredictably as it moved like a silver dragon.
Pfft!
Pfft!
Pfft!
Pfft!
The silver spear tore through the ranks of the panicked Passion Sect disciples. It didn’t just graze them, it pierced straight through their bodies. In a single breath, more than twenty disciples were impaled, their bodies carried along the spear’s long shaft as it continued forward, like meat on a skewer.
BOOM
The spear slammed into the solid rock of the mountain wall with powerful force. The impact cracked the stone for dozens of meters in every direction.
The corpses hanging on the spear twitched a few times before going limp. Blood dripped from the shaft, falling to the ground and slowly pooling beneath them.
The entire cave fell into a dead silence.
Overseer Zhao, Mo Feng, and Liu Ruyan stared at the gruesome spear with trembling pupils. The sheer force required to throw a spear with such precision and power, piercing through twenty Qi Condensation Realm cultivators as if they were paper.
And judging from the spear’s trajectory, the one who threw it hadn’t even been aiming blindly.
Someone had deliberately targeted them from afar.
At the entrance of the tunnel, the dust slowly settled.
A figure stepped out from the shadows with hands behind his back, a faint, cold smile playing on his lips.
Yu Liang looked at the hanging corpses and the panicked cultivators, his voice remained calm, but it echoed through the silent cave, making the words sound even more chilling.
"Is this the Passion Sect’s grand plan? It seems... a bit fragile."
