Chapter 85: More Relevant Information

After the conversation with Luna, it took me a few minutes for my dizziness to subside. Then I slowly walked back down the corridor while my mind was still busy processing all the information I had just received from Luna. In the office, the opening to the corridor slid shut so that it merged with the wall again. Apart from the slight glow, nothing was visible. I listened at the door and when I heard nothing, I moved swiftly into the corridor and then into my room. My thoughts wandered to two specific pieces of information I had received. Regeneration and Self Transformation were special skills, I had always been aware of that. But there was obviously a reason why I had received them. But I couldn't think of any reason why that was the case. And then there was the prospect of the future, when I would be able to talk to Luna at any time. I was curious to see what that would look like.

The night ended quicker than I would have liked. I had spent the rest of the time lying awake and brooding. I was correspondingly tired when Tamina came to wake me up. I hadn't fully internalized the daily routine yet, so I had to hurry. After breakfast, I went back into town with Winn.

That afternoon, I had another lesson with Master Freyna. She received me in her office and made me sit in a chair. She looked at me with a gaze that felt like nothing was hidden. I became nervous because of last night.

“You're unusually tired, Eliza. Didn't you get any sleep last night?” <Freyna>

“Yes, that's right. I've been trying to process the various pieces of information I've received. Unfortunately, I didn't get very far with it.” <Eliza>

“You could ask me for advice about that." <Freyna>

“Hmm, I don't think so. I'll have to deal with the part that's causing me problems myself.” <Eliza>

“So we'll leave it at that. Today I want to talk to you about a special feature that can help you in your development. Do you know what class I have?” <Freyna>

“No, master. How should I know that? What about it?” <Eliza>

“What do you know about the evolution of classes?” <Freyna>

“You can improve a class under certain conditions. My friend Lirella also has an improved class, so I know at least the most important things. When you upgrade, the base characteristics and therefore the status attributes generally increase significantly. The same applies to HP, AU and MP.” <Eliza>

“That is correct. You can assume that these values will roughly double. This makes it easier to improve your skills further, as you reach the threshold earlier. Put simply, you can only improve skills above advanced if you have an improved class.” <Freyna>

“I already know that much from Lirella.” <Eliza>

“The second thing you can do is change class. You change your class and start at level 1 again. You keep your old basic characteristics until the new class level has overtaken the old class level. From then on, the new total values apply. This is often practiced in the church. For example, you can start as a warrior and then change to a mixed class such as a order knight, who can also cast spells." <Freyna>

“Is that the case with you too, Master?” <Eliza>

“No, I'm the third case. The third case is the rarest and only occurs in exceptional cases. As far as I know, it hasn't happened to humans yet, because it requires a special ritual. This ritual is only known to a few people. I personally only know one person who have mastered it." <Freyna>

“That's not many, Master. What does this ritual do?” <Eliza>

“Then you get a second class that works in parallel with your first. This means you get the benefits of both classes. The disadvantage is that you have to divide your EXP between both classes and will therefore never reach the same level as someone who only has one class. But the advantages clearly outweigh the disadvantages. You gain HP, AU and MP from both classes. The characteristics, however, only increase slightly, but this is acceptable. You get a bonus to your characteristics depending on the second class you choose. In my case, because I have a priest class, that's mainly intelligence and charisma.” <Freyna>

“That sounds very powerful, Master. What is your second class and what prerequisites did you have to fulfill, if you don't mind me asking?” <Eliza>

“As far as I know, the status doesn't recognize a second class. Maybe you have to be a master of appraisal. My second class is acolyte. I have dedicated my life to the goddess, like a priest who has served his god from the beginning. I would have liked to become a priestess of Luna directly, but unfortunately I haven't been able to do that yet.

The ritual I am talking about is the consecration, the late consecration to be precise. The aspirant prepares his body and mind to receive a portion of the divine power from the goddess. The ritual consists of two parts. The first part is the shaping of the vessel so that in the second part this vessel is filled. Unfortunately, I only received the first part. I am eagerly awaiting the second.” <Freyna>

“That sounds like a complicated thing, Master. How many acolytes of the goddess are there?” <Eliza>

“Only two besides me, but both are even priests. That's the enhanced class of acolyte. Unlike the direct priestly ordination of the first class, the acolytes from the late ordination only receive the same benefits after upgrading to priest.” <Freyna>

“Where are they to be found, Master?” <Eliza>

“I don't know that. One is a wanderer who travels all over the continent and never stays in one place for long. I met her on my own travels and only found out she was a priestess when she left. The other was an old man and was also the one who ordained me. That was five years ago and my predecessor here in Lightburgh. He sadly passed away a year ago.” <Freyna>

“What does the wanderer look like, Master? I also plan to travel the world and gain many experiences. If I should meet her, I can recognize her like this.” <Eliza>

“She is a tall panther woman, with long black hair and sparkling eyes. She's a real beauty and has something fierce about her, like a predator. You'll recognize her when you see her. But be careful not to become her prey.” <Freyna>

“I'll be careful, master. And thank you for sharing your information with me so freely.” <Eliza>

“We shall see. Let's get to the practical training. Without a higher level, it's hard to get ahead in life.” <Freyna>
