In This Rebirth, The Male Lead Is Mine [BL]
Chapter 259: Humanity’s Traitors (1)
Somehow, his voice was not particularly loud, but it was clear. Despite his exhaustion, Rise managed to call out Kamille’s name without stumbling over a breath.
Kamille’s violent demeanor quickly softened, and his figure quickly arrived in front of Rise. Their gazes met, now closer than they had been in what felt like years.
Rise stared at Kamille’s face, his pupils trembling for various emotions. He never thought that he would see him again. He wanted to say something, to talk to Kamille.
Unfortunately, due to his condition, Rise did not have the strength to stay awake anymore. He might have neutralized mana toxins; overexhaustion was still something he could not escape, especially as he was not at his peak to begin with.
Before he could say something once more, Rise finally collapsed in Kamille’s waiting arms. This time, he completely let his guard down and trusted Kamille for the rest.
Kamille embraced Rise’s body, his whole body trembling from tension. Extreme emotions washed over him in just a split second, yet he had managed to rein it all in.
He took a deep breath and focused on the matter at hand. They needed to leave this place as soon as possible. Kamille looked at Rise and then at Thalia in his arms. He checked their condition first.
Both conditions were actually severe. Kamille did not linger for long and took the two of them. While traveling through space was faster, the area was fragile and was under the influence of some kind of power.
Kamille ignored the malice that was beginning to form once more. It would not be too late to settle it later, once and for all. With his heart filled with killing intent, their figures floated and soon disappeared into the city.
Only a minute after they left, a massive thunderstorm swept the city as though venting its anger on everyone. The dark sky gradually widened and spread throughout the surrounding cities.
No matter if they were humans or beasts, their gazes were filled with malice and looked in one direction and shouted, "Kill!"
This disaster was closing in; the final battle for fate was imminent.
Back at Kamille’s side, he had no way of knowing these malicious actions yet. But even if he knew, he would not care. His whole attention was only at Rise.
The moment they arrived at the place he was staying in, Rise and Thalia were immediately treated. Thalia was in urgent need of guiding, and the symptoms on her body gradually receded.
As for Rise, he did not need guiding, but overexhaustion also took a toll on his body. The mana inside him was chaotic and needed to be stabilized.
The two were currently in a coma. Fortunately, their lives were not in a critical situation anymore, and they only needed to rest.
It had been a day since he had managed to rescue Rise and Thalia, Kamille remained in his position. He was sitting and looking at Rise, guarding his side.
He wanted to make sure that he was the first person Rise would see as soon as he woke up. Kamille’s expression had a sense of relief, managing the other emotions in his heart at bay.
Sometimes he would squeeze Rise’s hand to feel the temperature of his palm. His fingers would also occasionally brush past his pulse.
Kamille would then lower his head and bury his face in Rise’s shoulders, taking a deep breath of his natural scent but also sensing his breathing.
’He’s alive. I’m not too late.’
Compared to the time when Rise was not by his side, Kamille’s appearance had already returned to mostly normal. Except for his crimson pupils, the crack surface on his face disappeared. The ferocious aura within him was also hidden.
If not for his actions for the past few days, Kamille would still be the same Guild Leader Kamille that everyone knew.
That was the impression that the Union general had of him. He had observed him enough, while conflicted inside, Niftan had to accept the relationship between him and his son.
"The situation outside has drastically changed." Niftan entered the room, sitting on the couch, not far from Rise’s bed. "Would you like to hear it?"
Kamille did not answer immediately, and Niftan did not urge him. Silence pervaded the room once more, just like it had always been since they collaborated.
A few minutes later, Kamille’s voice rang throughout the silent room.
"Let me hear it." As he said that, his voice was calm, without any curiosity. It was as though whatever chaos was happening outside, even if it was the end of the world, would be nothing to him.
His gaze was only focused on one person.
Niftan noticed it but did not comment. Instead, he began to inform him. Unlike Kamille, there were obvious emotions in his voice. Both trepidation and anger.
"Everyone has gone crazy. They are all looking for you and Rise. They are all calling both of you... humanity’s traitors."
Niftan gritted his teeth as he said that. He did not like such a heavy term falling in Rise’s head. His son sure was not perfect, but what did he do to truly warrant calling him as such?
If not for his high status, Niftan might already be on an interrogation table. Not like it changed anything, as he was on the suspicion list of those who might harbor a criminal. After all, everyone knew he doted on his son so much.
Fortunately, this place was relatively secure. At least, for now, it would not be discovered.
Kamille remained calm, not surprised in the slightest. He had already expected it. He let Niftan vent his anger, also out of helplessness regarding their situation.
Niftan waited for his response, but Kamille did not provide any. In a way, his silence was already his reaction. Compared to Rise’s condition, nothing else mattered.
He could deal with it after Rise woke up.
In the end, Niftan also did not insist. He stayed for a few minutes before he bid farewell. There were a few things he had to prepare for before everything turned more chaotic.
"After Rise woke up... I’ll bring Riri. He missed Rise so much."
Only Kamille gave a different reaction; his expression shifted slightly, and he nodded.
"I’ll leave him to you." It was a heavy-filled word, and Niftan could not help but nod solemnly.
Soon, it was only Rise and Kamille inside the room once more.
Kamille intertwined his fingers with Rise’s and lowered his face to kiss the back of Rise’s hand deeply.
"Wake up soon... Rise,"
He whispered, bearing all his longing for the past few weeks.
