Chapter 55: Chapter 55: Betty Silverheart

A string of codes appeared before Derrick as he started typing his own against in the computer.

A strange rythmic sound of his finger drumming against the wooden plank of the table echoed in the silent room.

The holographic projection of the keyboard did not flicker even when his fingers moved through it.

It took Derrick less than 2 minutes to get into the government server of his city.

He would have taken less time if he was trying to get caught while doing it.

No one had any idea that some boy from some rundown Tianchen town of the Emerald City had broken through one of the most secure servers in the world.

Not only that he had extracted a list of Low Ranking Alchemists who had been registered in the database but had unable to move up from their Tier 5 Rank.

Alchemists had their own distinguished ranks.

It went from Tier 5 to Tier 1.

Tier 5 being the weakest. It belonged to the alchemists that were only capable of making unranked pills like PEDs or some healing pills.

Only expert Tier 1 Alchemists that had a Two stars on their badge were capable of creating Tier 1 Pills.

Then Came Tier 2 Alchemist. Once Tier 1 Alchemists were able to create a pill with 50% or higher purity of any Tier 1 pIll they were capable of obtaining this rank through a promotion test.

Two Star Tier 2 Alchemists can make Tier 2 Pills and the rankings go on and on from there with the same parameters but different levels.

"Now, all I have to do is find a desperate Alchemist. Khekhe..."

Cassandra who had just woken up heard Derrick’s Dark laugh and closed her eyes shut thinking, I must be dreaming.

Indeed, what Derrick wanted was not a professional Alchemist.

He wanted a desperate Alchemist who he could use and control. Derrick only needed to the license to sell his product.

After all who could make better pill than the system in this world.

Soon, a list of names appeared before him.

Derrick did not stop at the names or basic information.

He went full research mode and dug into their financial situations.

Their assets, liabilities and what other problems they were having.

Gotta pick the one who is easiest to manipulate.

"Carlos Orborn." Derrick whispered the name to himself as he extracted them while wiping every trace of his presence.

Once outside the server, he directly scrolled through the information.

Name. Age. Rank. Income. Debt. Property. Family. Business. Bills. Connections.

Everything the government had on them, Derrick had it too.

Carlos Osborn. 48 years old man. Has been stuck on the same rank for 20 years now and still had not earned two star.

Clearly he did not have the talent for alchemy but he was rich and had many connections as well.

He had other businesses besides alchemy that were working well for him.

"Yeah, not him." Derrick scratched the name and read the next file only to discard it immediately.

I should have thought of this before. Seeing The deceased status of the man, he facepalmed hard.

After 10 minutes, Derrick had rejected almost every second file he came across and in the end he was left with 5 names.

James Jane

Betty Silverheart

Rowan Johnson.

Shin Cheng

Jake Long.

"Hmm..." Derrick placed all the five documents side by side and compared them all.

Each one of them had ongoing debts or bills they could not handle with their side jobs. They had not been alchemists for long.

They were all the perfect targets for him.

But... these four seem reckless and have no integrity.

Jake Lang and James Jane were compulsive gamblers.

Rowan Johnson on the other hand had racked up his debt in millions.

"There is only one real choice." Derrick stared at the picture of the woman named Betty Silverheart.

Unlike the rest of them, she had taken loan recently and that was for her sick mother who was her only family.

She had been working hard to gather the money to pay off her loans before the payment date for the first EMI came.

But for some reason her pills were not being sold.

"Guess, I will go meet her today." Derrick looked at the time and it was 6 PM in the evening but it was still bright as day outside so picked up his jacket and walked out of the room.

"What was that all about?" Cassie whispered to herself before looking down and realized that she had knocked sheets off of herself at some point.

No wonder I was feeling a chill

Cassie shook her head and picked up the sheet with her feet. She was too lazy to get up and pick.

She used her feet skillfully and covered herself with the sheet and closed her eyes.

On the other side, Derrick informed Rebecca about his short trip. He did not tell her what he was going to do clearly but said he was going to see someone for work.

She only agreed to let him go after he wore one of the bands.

Tightening the strap around his wrist he walked out.

At times like these, I wish I had a car.

Derrick thought before taking his phone out and ordering himself a cab.

"Lowry District, please. There is a shop called Betty’s Pills and Potions there." The man nodded through the window screen between them and started driving.

The cab rose into the air like without needing to gain a momentum from the speed and shot through the air like bullet.

This was the first time Derrick had flown in an air cab.

He had even asked his teacher why she did not use a flying car like everyone else?

And she had told him that it was faster to drive on road than in the sky where it was full of traffic.

Now that he was flying in a car, Derrick realized how right she had been.

It is not that exciting though. Just like a plane but less comfort. After one looked, he looked away.

In his previous life he was used to flying in first class and private jets so he did not act like a country bumpkin and gawk at the scenery outside.

On his way, Derrick started to learn about the place online. He did not google like an ammeter.

He directly pulled up the police files of the station in the district.

He asked the computer to summarize the major crimes and problems of the place and section out anything related to Betty if there was something.

And he did find something...

The Loan Betty took had been through a bit shady channels.

She had complained about people disturbing her business but no one took actions on her complaints.

"Here we are. That will be 250 SC" By the he finished reading the report, Derrick had arrived at his destination.

He paid and got out of the cab to see the shop on the opposite side of street.

Derrick carefully crossed the street and pushed the door open only to hear a sweet voice coming from the other side.

"Welcome..."
