Immortality Starts With Selling Pills
Chapter 52: Worried Mom
Chapter 52: Chapter 52: Worried Mom
By the time Derrick returned, he was tired. He had no idea he could feel so tired despite getting so strong. He glanced at the clock, and it was two in the evening.
He had been out training, hunting, for 9 hours.
Even after the effects of the pill long disappeared, Keira did not let him rest.
She had dragged him from one location to another.
"You finally know when to come back!" Seeing the front gate opening, Rebecca got up from the sofa.
Her eyes were red and swollen with tears.
"What happened?" Derrick was startled. His first thought was something bad had happened while he was not here.
He rushed beside her and took the sobbing woman in her arms.
"I..." Unable to hold herself, she cried again. "I thought something had happened to you."
It finally hit him. Derrick felt like an idiot for worrying her like this.
"You should have call—" Derrick froze the moment those words were about to leave his mouth. He took out his phone and saw dozens of calls over the last few hours.
"Fuck!" Derrick did not even care that he cursed out loud before Rebecca. "I forgot my phone was on mute, and I have been training since morning."
"I even went to your gym, and the receptionist there told me you went to train with your teacher somewhere." Rebecca clutched the collar of his shirt and screamed. "Did you know how worried I was? What if something had happened to you?"
"What if... hic!"
Derrick hugged her tightly and ran a hand on her back, trying to soothe her.
"Don’t worry, I will not let something like this happen again." He sighed and took out a phone to check his bank account.
[Balance: 127,500SC]
The training was not without any monetary fruits. Keira had called someone to collect the bodies of the beast and sell them, and after deducting the 15% tax on the mission completion, she gave all the money to him without keeping a credit to herself.
"...Do you have to go?" After a few minutes, Rebecca pulled away and looked at Derrick with some hesitation. "Why don’t you quit all this? I don’t want anything to happen to you. Not again."
Derrick stayed silent, but that was all the answer she needed to know to hear his response.
She lowered her head and bit her lips. Tears, silently falling from her eyes.
"How about this?" Derrick turned his face towards her. There was the image of a watch on it.
It was a smart watch that not only allowed long-distance video calls, like the person was standing before you, but also shared your health data with other devices.
The price of each watch was around 10,000 credits.
"What if we got this for everyone?"
Rebecca stared at the price and then at Derrick, who was calmly saying such absurd things without any hesitation.
The price of the watch alone was more than what she would earn in a week if she had a watch.
"Are you okay? Did you hit yourself in the head?" Rebecca checked him carefully. Since he killed most of the beasts from distance, there was not a drop of blood on him.
Or else who knows how she would have reacted.
"I am fine. I made a lot from the novels. So it is fine." Derrick felt like it was better to not tell her about what he did the whole day and give all the credits to his novel.
"Wait..." Right there before her eyes, he even placed the order. "It will be here in ten minutes."
Tossing his phone back into his pocket, Derrick guided her to the sofa. "You should rest; if you want, go to sleep. I can cook today."
He did not let her argue and went into the kitchen.
Rebecca stared at his back as he chopped the ingredients and turned the oven on, letting it preheat.
Her eyes fluttered with time. Her head swayed, she let herself relax into the three-seater sofa, and she did not even realize when she fell asleep.
...
By the time the oven was preheated, Derrick was done with preparing the ingredients.
He poured the yeast in a bowl of lukewarm water and added some sugar before mixing it properly. Then he covered it and set it inside an Insta Cook device.
Taking the pizza flour, he poured it into a huge bowl and took out the yeast, which was already done frothing.
By the time he kneaded the dough and placed it inside the insta cook device, Cassie had come back home.
"What are you cooking?" Cassie placed her bag on the single sofa.
She walked over and glanced at her sleeping mother from the corner of her eyes. "What happened before? Mom sent several messages. She said you were missing and not picking up."
"What did you tell her?" Derrick whispered barely loud enough to not wake up Rebecca.
"I told her you were probably alright, and I also had a feeling she was overthinking it. She has even been on the edge since you... you know." Cassie leaned against the counter and dropped her head on his shoulder before instantly backing away.
"Lost my memories." I said the words she could not say. It was understandable.
"You smell." She closed her nose with fingers just to show how much.
"Yeah, I am going to take a bath." He turned the oven off and turned the dial on the Insta Cook Device. "Don’t touch anything. I don’t want to eat a burnt pizza."
"Yeah, fuck you too." Cassie mockingly punched him as he walked away.
Derrick went into the room and took out a fresh set of clothes before walking upstairs.
Moments after he left, the door to twin’s room opened again.
This time it was Cassie; she hesitated before walking towards the drawer by the side of her bed and pulled out the pills Derrick had given her. She clutched them and turned around to leave.
