Chapter 14: Chapter 14: Inheritance Secured

Standing before Yun Wan, Lv Yuan didn’t bother asking why she had clashed with the Zhang family. As the eldest daughter of the Yun family, did she really need a reason to wipe out the insignificant Zhang family of Fenglin Town?

"Miss Yun!" Severely injured, Zhang Hong stumbled over and threw himself to the ground in a pathetic display. With his arms crippled, he could only press his forehead against the earth.

THUD! THUD!

He kowtowed again and again, slamming his shiny forehead into the ground until it was a mangled, bloody mess, blood streaming down his face.

"Miss Yun, my unfilial son has offended you! He deserves a thousand deaths!

"By raising a hand against you, I too have committed an unforgivable crime. I am willing to offer you every single asset the Zhang family owns and atone with my own life! I only beg that you spare the rest of the Zhang family!"

By offending Yun Wan, the Zhang family’s destruction was sealed. However, Zhang Hong still had his eldest son out in the world. As long as he could keep that boy alive, the Zhang family bloodline would continue. Under the circumstances, this was the best possible outcome.

Looking at Zhang Hong, Yun Wan’s murderous intent gradually faded. "Consider your wish granted," she said coldly.

Overwhelmed with gratitude, Zhang Hong kowtowed several more times before frantically ordering his people to tally up the Zhang family’s assets and present them to her.

Throughout all of this, Fang Xu watched in silence. He shook his head slightly when Yun Wan agreed to Zhang Hong’s plea.

He thought, "This woman is strong, but she clearly lacks worldly experience. Doesn’t she know that cutting the weeds without digging up the roots will only lead to endless trouble?"

The Yun family was powerful, and they probably didn’t care about the insignificant Zhang family at all. However, in a world where strength reigned supreme, leaving the eldest son alive was a lingering threat—no matter how slim his chances of rising to power might be. If it were him, wiping out the Zhang family would only be step one. Step two would be hunting down that eldest son and slaughtering him too.

Perhaps fearing that Yun Wan would lose patience and change her mind, the Zhang family staff tallied the assets with incredible speed. In less than an hour, Zhang Hong returned, accompanied by a weeping woman carrying a ledger.

"Miss Yun, every asset the Zhang family owns is recorded here. Please take a look."

Yun Wan glanced at the ledger before turning to Lv Yuan. "Commander Lv, please have your men take possession of these assets and transport them back to Huangzhou Prefecture."

Lv Yuan gave a slight bow and took the ledger.

Struggling to his knees once more, Zhang Hong kowtowed deeply to Yun Wan. Then, he abruptly sprang to his feet and launched himself headfirst at one of the stone lions guarding the manor!

CRASH!

The solid stone lion cracked upon impact. Zhang Hong’s skull shattered, sending brain matter flying, and he died instantly.

The surrounding crowd sighed in shock and pity at the gruesome sight. The Zhang family had been entrenched in Fenglin Town for a century, building a formidable foundation, only to end up destroyed and ruined over such a trivial matter. A dignified Martial Master had seen his son killed, yet he still had to bash his own head open, surrender his entire fortune, and forfeit his life just to beg for forgiveness.

With Zhang Hong dead, the onlookers gradually dispersed. The only ones left were the Martial Artists and servants hired by the Zhang family, shivering in fear and not daring to move a muscle.

"Miss Yun, how should we handle these people?" Lv Yuan asked, cupping his hands as he glanced at the remaining Zhang household staff.

"Kill those two. As for the rest, conscript the Martial Artists into the army and dismiss the ordinary folks," Yun Wan said evenly, pointing at Xie Xiaoqi and Liang San in the crowd.

Lv Yuan bowed slightly before drawing the Horizontal Blade at his waist. With a blur of motion, he brought the blade down, executing Liang San and Xie Xiaoqi on the spot.

[Your friend Liang San has died. As a friend, you may randomly inherit one of Liang San’s two legacies.]

Legacy One: [White Legacy (Strength Attribute: 10 points)] No risk to inherit, but requires physical contact with the deceased’s corpse.

Legacy Two: [Gray Legacy (Liang San’s Stash: 2 taels of silver)] No risk to inherit.

[Your friend Xie Xiaoqi has died. As a friend, you may randomly inherit one of Xie Xiaoqi’s three legacies.]

Legacy One: [White Legacy (Life Attribute: 10 points)] No risk to inherit, but requires physical contact with the deceased’s corpse.

Legacy Two: [Gray Legacy (Xie Xiaoqi’s Stash: 5 taels of silver)] No risk to inherit.

Legacy Three: [White Legacy (Xie Xiaoqi’s Courtyard)] No risk to inherit.

As Xie Xiaoqi and Liang San were killed, the virtual light screen popped up in front of Fang Xu once again.

He marveled inwardly, "I can even inherit attributes!?" as he read through their legacy lists. He had assumed the system only allowed him to inherit tangible items. He never expected it to have a function for inheriting attributes.

"Not bad at all!" he thought.

Thrilled, he selected the inherit option. The legacies of the two men began to scroll before him. Then, the screen froze.

[Congratulations, you have received Legacy One (Strength Attribute: 10 points).]

[Automatically acquired upon touching Liang San’s corpse.]

[Congratulations, Host, you have received Legacy Two (Xie Xiaoqi’s Stash: 5 taels of silver).]

[The 5 taels of silver are hidden inside a pillow in Xie Xiaoqi’s home. Please retrieve it promptly.]

Before Fang Xu could even celebrate acquiring two new legacies, Yun Wan’s voice reached his ears.

"What is your name?"

Fang Xu paused for a moment, then hurriedly cupped his hands. "I am Fang Xu. Greetings, Miss."

"Fang Xu..." Yun Wan murmured, then continued, "Are you a local of Fenglin Town?"

Fang Xu nodded.

"In that case, the Zhang family’s Blood Food Shop on the street is yours. Consider it compensation for guiding my way."

With that, she turned and left.

Fang Xu watched her retreating figure with an odd expression. He wondered, "Is this the system’s almighty power at work?" He had merely helped her navigate, yet she generously gifted him the Zhang family’s Blood Food Shop.

"Thank you, Miss Yun!"

Calling out his thanks to Yun Wan’s retreating back, Fang Xu hurried over to Liang San’s corpse. He helped Liao Yunfeng lift the body onto a wooden cart.

[Touched Liang San’s corpse. Gained Strength Attribute: 10 points.]

A faint energy seeped out of Liang San’s body and drilled straight into Fang Xu. After that, nothing else happened, though Fang Xu felt his physical strength increase slightly.

"Fang the Kid, congratulations." Liao Yunfeng clapped his hands, looking at Fang Xu with envy. "Getting a Blood Food Shop out of nowhere... When you strike it rich in the future, don’t forget to treat the brothers to some drinks."

Fang Xu smiled bitterly and shook his head. "Liao, do you really think I can hold on to that Blood Food Shop?"

Yun Wan had only said she was giving him the Zhang family’s Blood Food Shop; she hadn’t given him permission to run a Blood Food business in Fenglin Town. With the Zhang family gone, the local Blood Food business would soon be targeted by others. Given his current strength, it was impossible for him to get involved.

Liao Yunfeng offered a sheepish smile and sighed. "Yeah, without strength, you can’t protect an opportunity even when it’s handed to you. Fang the Kid, just sell the shop. Exchanging it for some money to improve your own strength is the true path."

Fang Xu nodded; that was exactly what he intended to do. He couldn’t meddle in the Blood Food business, but since Yun Wan had promised him the shop, he had the right to dispose of it as he saw fit.

"Liao, I’m going to check out that Blood Food Shop." After loading the corpses onto the cart, Fang Xu prepared to go claim his inheritance.

"Go ahead." Liao Yunfeng directed several Si Ji to haul the four corpses of the Zhang family out to the Chaotic Burial Mounds outside of town for burial. He stayed behind, leading his men to seal up the entire Zhang family manor.

This residence now belonged to the Yun Family. Every blade of grass and every tree inside was Yun Family property, and nothing could be allowed to go wrong.

After leaving the Zhang family manor, Fang Xu headed directly to the Blood Food Shop on the street. Surveying the massive amount of Blood Food inside the shop, Fang Xu was overjoyed. From now on, this shop belonged to him!
