Once on deck, Ning Jiang looked out at the sea and understood the reason for the ship’s shaking.

It wasn’t under attack. Rather, the sea’s surface was dotted with whirlpools. As the massive ship skirted their edges, the immense pulling force made it shudder.

Fortunately, the vessel was large enough that the whirlpools could only make it tremble, posing no real threat of damage.

"Oh, you’re awake."

A delicate voice suddenly sounded from behind Ning Jiang. He turned to see an adorable girl in a light cyan dress.

She looked to be about fifteen or sixteen, with large, bright eyes that held a pure innocence. Her hair was tied in two ponytails, making her look full of life.

"My sister said your injuries were so severe it would take at least ten days for you to wake up. I didn’t expect you to be up in just three. It must be because my prayers worked!"

The girl smiled faintly, revealing two dimples at the corners of her mouth.

"You saved me. Thank you."

Ning Jiang recognized her. She was the girl who had rushed over and struck the Sea Serpent with her palm. Although he could have used a Forbidden Technique to kill the creature, it was questionable whether he would have survived afterward.

So, in a way, he owed his life to this girl.

"Hee hee, don’t thank me. The real credit goes to my sister."

The girl stuck out her tongue playfully, showing no intention of taking the credit. Just then, her big eyes caught sight of a graceful figure walking toward them.

"Sister, how can you say that?" the girl said, slightly disgruntled.

"Hmph." The woman snorted coldly and said sternly, "Xiu’Er, I still haven’t reprimanded you for what happened that day. Do you realize how much danger you were in? If I hadn’t been by your side, you would have been killed on the spot. To risk your life for a stranger is simply preposterous!"

At the woman’s sudden outburst, the girl, Xiu’Er, seemed to shrink back in fear, not daring to talk back.

However, from her pouted lips, it was clear she was unconvinced. Yet, she didn’t dare voice her opinion in the face of the woman’s authority, which was rather amusing.

"You silly girl. I’ll let you off this time, but if you dare do it again, see how I’ll punish you." The woman shot the girl a fierce glare, then turned with a graceful stride and left the bow.

’She’s going to punish me for saving someone? My sister is so unreasonable.’

Watching the woman’s retreating back, the girl secretly made a silly face.

"Your sister is just concerned for you," Ning Jiang said with a smile. The woman seemed strict, but in reality, she was only thinking of the girl’s safety.

"I know she cares about me, but I’m still not convinced," the girl huffed. She then turned to Ning Jiang and said, "By the way, I’m Chu Xiu’Er, and my sister is Chu Qingqing. What’s your name?"

"Ning Jiang."

"You’re older than me, so I’ll call you Brother Ning." Chu Xiu’Er, innocent and without a shred of cunning, asked, "Brother Ning, what happened to you? Why were you so badly injured? When you were floating on the sea, I actually thought you were dead."
