Immortal Cultivation: Starting from a Pharmacy Apprentice
Chapter 466: Blinded
Chapter 466: Chapter 466: Blinded
The night was one of feasting and drinking.
The food and wine were all made from Spiritual Objects, the best for warming one’s heart on a snowy night.
Many Loose Cultivators went an entire year without eating such a meal more than a few times. To encounter it tonight was, naturally, a joyous occasion.
Waiters hired from town bustled back and forth, trays and platters held high. Anyone who passed by tonight could find a seat at the feast.
Ah Er was gorging itself beside Bai Mo.
When a dish was occasionally out of reach, it took advantage of its short, beastly stature to stand on a chair and extend its chopsticks.
Bai Mo and the others were not as excessive, of course. Besides eating and drinking, they mostly spent their time discussing sect matters with fellow disciples.
Occasionally, acquaintances would catch up on each other’s recent situations.
Aside from the bride and groom never making an appearance, everything else was no different from an ordinary wedding.
Bai Mo and the other disciples with exceptional perception knew even more: the bride had already left in the middle of the night.
Vanishing with her were many of the sinister auras in the manor, likely those belonging to her handmaidens and the like.
As for Wei Xianxing, what could he possibly be doing alone in the bridal chamber? Nothing more than tempering his physique, probably.
The festivities lasted until dawn. With everyone thoroughly drunk, the crowd began to thin out and disperse.
The disciples of the Xuandao Sect, knowing things were likely awkward for Wei Xianxing, chatted and laughed as they too began to depart.
Many disciples of Broken Blade Peak had important duties and did not return to the sect gate, instead heading off in pairs and groups in all directions.
Yuan Chu appeared out of nowhere at this moment, holding a small pot of wine. He smiled at Bai Mo and said:
"Shall we head back together?"
Bai Mo looked at him.
"Is it done?"
Yuan Chu nodded. "It is."
"Let’s go. We should hurry back. You, the guardian of Mi Mountain, probably won’t have any free time for the next few days..."
Hearing his words, Bai Mo’s heart stirred. He grabbed the full and sated Ah Er and piloted the Flying Ship back with him.
The dispersing Loose Cultivators watched the Sect Disciples from the surrounding area taking to the skies, their faces filled with envy.
But that was beyond their aspirations. Just the feast tonight was enough for them to boast about to their friends back home for some time.
The Flying Ship transformed into a streak of green light and tore through the sky, the cold wind whipping at their faces.
Bai Mo activated the Flying Ship’s Array, instantly shielding them from the wind and snow.
Ah Er grunted and whimpered, its belly bulging. It shifted around from time to time to aid its digestion.
It held the head chef in charge of the feast in high esteem.
It had originally wanted to pay him a visit after the banquet, but their sudden departure left it with a hint of regret.
"Senior Brother, what did you mean by what you said earlier?"
Bai Mo looked at Yuan Chu and asked.
Yuan Chu chuckled.
"I didn’t know about this originally either. It was only because of Brother Wei’s situation that I asked an elder."
"This recent blizzard, it turns out, is not a natural phenomenon. In truth, the mortal world’s fortune has flourished to a certain point, causing old ills to resurface and disrupt the workings of fate."
"Its manifestation in the heavens is this endless, heavy snow."
He was quite envious of Wei Xianxing’s luck.
"For Brother Wei to have his event on a day like this... he really stepped in some serious shit."
Bai Mo didn’t understand these sorts of cultivation secrets at all, so he asked out of curiosity:
"Why?"
Yuan Chu pointed to the sky.
"Tonight, Heaven is blind!"
"It’s the easiest time to create confusion and sow discord. But it also means many with ulterior motives will take the opportunity to cause chaos."
This was the reason the disciples of Broken Blade Peak had been dispatched.
’When Heaven isn’t watching, the sect must step in.’
This was the responsibility of a great and righteous sect that controlled a region.
Bai Mo now also understood why Yuan Chu had said he wouldn’t be free, and he felt a sense of gravity.
"I never expected to encounter something like this. I’ve only ever heard about it from storytellers in teahouses and taverns."
Yuan Chu refuted him.
"That’s not quite right. These days, more and more old masters are lingering in the mortal realm."
"The Cultivation Realm is at its peak, its fortune blazing. As long as no demonic events occur that bring disaster to the common people, things like this will only become more and more common..."
After a hasty journey, they finally returned to the sect gate.
Yuan Chu was no longer on the Flying Ship; he had been pulled away mid-journey by a senior brother on a mission, who asked him to lend a hand.
When he returned to Mi Mountain, no one had been brought over yet. Li Wuji exchanged a few words with him and then departed on his own.
The sect was stretched thin, so he too might have to go out on patrol for the next few days.
Opening the door, Bai Mo grabbed one of Ah Er’s paws and dragged it inside.
At the banquet, the little rascal had drunk several bowls of wine.
He had thought its tolerance was decent, but the alcohol eventually went to its head, and it had passed out, swaying, on the Flying Ship.
Thankfully, it was a peaceful drunk, just sleeping soundly, which saved Bai Mo a lot of trouble.
THUD!
He tossed it into its nest. Its chubby body hit the floor with a dull sound.
When Ah Er blearily awoke, two days had already passed.
Bai Mo was in the middle of receiving a group of arriving disciples.
They were escorting a scrawny, skeletal old man.
"Junior Brother, you must watch him closely. This fiend is the infamous Yellow Springs Old Monster of Purple Mink Mountain. His Yin Poisonous Demon Skill is bizarre."
"We thought he’d died long ago, but it turns out he was just lying dormant for years. He crawled out of his coffin to plot against a fetus blessed with great fortune."
The escorting disciple’s face was grave as he explained:
"We discovered this villain lurking outside a pregnant woman’s room and managed to capture him."
Bai Mo nodded.
"Thank you for your hard work, Senior Brothers. You’ve saved another life."
The disciples’ expressions all turned grim.
"The child was stillborn. It’s a real pity, but thankfully, the mother is unharmed."
With things as they were, Bai Mo couldn’t say much more. He simply sent the Yellow Springs Old Monster to a cell.
’Once in the black cells, he’ll either be locked up until he dies or be conscripted by the sect to be used as a sacrifice. The fiend won’t meet a good end.’
’Nothing to worry about.’
As Bai Mo came back out and was carving a reply onto a talisman for the disciples, Ah Er was peeking around the doorframe, watching secretly.
Bai Mo shot it a look, gesturing with his eyes toward the top of the mountain.
Ah Er, still feeling the guilt of a hungover drunk and the disorientation of having slept for so long, was a bit flustered.
Catching Bai Mo’s glance, it nodded quickly and scurried outside.
It had barely stepped out the main gate before the wind and snow forced it back. It had to put on a straw raincoat before climbing the mountain.
Having received a Feeding Pill before, the gray mouse and the old hen weren’t particularly hungry.
The inexplicable panic they had felt a few nights ago was far more terrifying to them than hunger.
When Ah Er arrived, the old hen was fine, but the gray mouse had a worried look on its face.
The fire Ah Er had lit before leaving hadn’t gone out yet, thanks to the twigs and leaves the mouse had dragged back by coiling its tail around them.
But it was clear to the naked eye that almost all the flammable material in the vicinity had been burned.
Ah Er generously gave them two more Feeding Pills, dragged over some firewood, and then went back down the mountain.
By the time it returned, Bai Mo had already sent the other disciples away.
At that moment, Bai Mo was holding a Jade Talisman, a pleased look on his face.
Seeing the Jade Talisman reminded Ah Er of the group of men from Immortal Arrival City who had attacked it the other day.
It remembered that before they parted ways that day, Bai Mo had given those men a Jade Talisman.
Sure enough, when Bai Mo saw it, he beckoned it over.
"Hurry back to the place where you got beat up. They’ve sent something back for us. Remember to bring the Spirit Stones..."
