Chapter 454: Chapter 454: An Idea

Before Bai Mo could even react, Wei Xianxing’s eyebrows twitched frantically.

"That woman!!"

’Does she really have a death wish!?’

He took two large strides to the side of the ship, just in time to meet a hand with long, manicured nails slicing up from below.

Fortunately, his reactions were lightning-fast. He jerked his head back, barely dodging the upward swipe. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ

Even so, the force of the wind from the attack left a red mark on his chin.

A slender figure in a sky-blue dress floated up from below the vessel, drifting alongside the Flying Ship on the wind.

Wei Xianxing gritted his teeth when he saw her.

"It’s that woman’s personal handmaiden..."

The woman’s face was cold, and her mere proximity to the Flying Ship sent a chill through Bai Mo.

Looking closer, he saw her skin was slightly transparent under the sun—clearly, she was no ordinary human.

"You, with the surname Wei! My lady has treated you more than fairly, yet you, shameless man, dare to run away from your own wedding!?"

"Our original plan was to restrain you until after the wedding, but it was our lady who said you were a decent man and told us not to act so rashly..."

Hearing this, Wei Xianxing’s face flushed red.

"I never agreed to this willingly."

"My cultivation is at a critical period of rapid progress! I must maintain my virginity! How can I just carelessly lose it like this!?"

He was absolutely against the matter. Before, he had to resort to sweet-talking and placating that woman to keep her at bay.

But the handmaiden ignored his excuses.

"My lady is the descendant of a Divine Being. So what if your cultivation is disrupted? She has ways to mend it for you."

"Besides, you made a promise back then. You were supposed to find good husbands for us noble ladies..."

There was no explaining his way out of this. He had to escape this predicament first and plan the rest later.

Stamping his foot in frustration, Wei Xianxing spat out a mouthful of tongue-tip blood.

The instant the spray of blood touched the sunlight, it went WHOOSH, erupting into brilliant golden flames that shot toward the handmaiden’s head.

The handmaiden was unfazed. With a wave of her fair hand, her sleeve fluttered and wiped out most of the flames.

Only a few sparks landed on her sleeve and palm, burning small holes and leaving scorched marks.

Before she could look again, her vision suddenly went black. A loud CLANG sounded from above as something seemed to close over her.

It was Bai Mo who had acted. He had transformed his Divine Thought into a massive Pill Furnace, trapping her inside as the lid sealed shut.

Wei Xianxing had a powerful physique and formidable strength. The fact that he had immediately resorted to a technique like using his tongue-tip blood showed just how extraordinary this handmaiden was.

Delaying her to escape was the right move.

Bai Mo took out the Fire Essence and blew it at the Pill Furnace. A great plume of fire, shaped like a fox’s tail, immediately engulfed it.

Waves of intense heat rolled off it, causing the very air around the Pill Furnace to distort and shimmer.

Wei Xianxing was startled.

"It’s that powerful? Truly worthy of something from the Suanni Ancestor!"

With a gesture from Bai Mo, the flames swirled into a vortex, just like in Alchemy, spiraling up from the bottom of the furnace to concentrate the heat.

This was an Alchemy technique used to maximize the fire’s intensity and rapidly condense the Pill Liquid.

THUD!

A slender Palm Seal appeared on the lid of the Pill Furnace, cracks spreading from its center.

Seemingly wary of the flames outside, the hand inside quickly withdrew its power just as it was about to break through the furnace.

Bai Mo hurriedly spurred the Flying Ship, which shot away as a streak of green light.

A few breaths later, the Pill Furnace exploded with a loud BANG. It shattered into pieces that flew several yards before vanishing into thin air.

From within, the figure in blue burst out through the air.

The handmaiden was fuming. She gave chase to the Flying Ship, only to be met by several Pills thrown by Ah Er, which exploded and hindered her for a moment.

She finally looked a little disheveled.

Bai Mo’s sharp eyes noticed that when she had broken out of the Pill Furnace, several spots on the hem of her dress had been refined to ash and fallen away.

Even a small section of her pinky fingernail had turned to ash and crumbled off.

The nail grew back in an instant, but the marks on her dress remained.

Ah Er was thrilled that the Pills it had just thrown were so effective.

It put its ’hands’ on its ’hips’ with a laugh, then pulled out another pawful of multicolored Pills from its chest.

"Junior Brother, your Pills are amazing!"

Seeing this, Wei Xianxing cheered from the side, silently lamenting his wasted mouthful of tongue-tip blood. ’I could have avoided that.’

"Quick, take out some more! I’ll reimburse you when we get back!"

When Bai Mo didn’t respond, Wei Xianxing paused and looked over at him.

Bai Mo snapped back to his senses, stopped Ah Er from throwing more Pills, and said with a smile:

"That won’t be necessary. Senior Brother, just look!"

The Flying Ship was already approaching the gates of the Xuandao Sect.

Before they even got close, several streams of Divine Thought swept over them.

The Divine Thoughts paused on the Flying Ship for a moment before moving on, locking onto the pursuing blue-robed handmaiden.

The latter was like a frightened bird. She stopped dead in her tracks and retreated repeatedly, not daring to utter a word.

Never mind her; even if her entire Divine Kingdom came, they wouldn’t dare to challenge the might of a grand and majestic sect.

This was the prestige befitting a great sect that dominated a region.

Such behemoths were not eternal, but whenever a regional hegemon fell, the afterglow of its sunset could drag down many existences like that Divine Kingdom along with it.

The Flying Ship plunged into the mist at the edge of the mountain gate, kicking up a wave of fog.

Wei Xianxing suddenly remembered something, turned around, and shouted to the outside.

"This is all a misunderstanding! Please don’t make things difficult for her!"

His shout seemed to have an effect. The Divine Thoughts sweeping outside didn’t press the matter and stopped pursuing the handmaiden.

It was just unclear whether she would appreciate the gesture.

Bai Mo chuckled softly.

"It seems her lady has excellent judgment. Even in a moment of panic, she didn’t misjudge you. Senior Brother, you’re a first-class man..."

Wei Xianxing pursed his lips.

"I was busy before and took a lot of money from that group of noble ladies. I have to at least acknowledge that connection..."

Curious, Bai Mo asked:

"How much did you make, Senior Brother?"

Wei Xianxing raised his hand and spread his fingers, about to answer, but he hesitated at the last moment and didn’t say.

"Forget it. It’s enough for you to know it was a lot, Junior Brother."

"In any case, if I borrow some more from a few acquaintances, it’ll be enough for me to cultivate peacefully all the way to Core Formation."

Only then did Bai Mo realize just how profitable this matchmaking business was.

After a few days, Bai Mo led Wei Xianxing to the inner sect, at the foot of Divine Dao Mountain.

He explained their purpose, only to be told that Yuan Chu had not yet returned and that they should wait for a few days.

Wei Xianxing had no choice but to wait patiently.

The rules and taboos on this inner sect’s Divine Dao Mountain were much more numerous and strict.

Without an acquaintance to guide him, Wei Xianxing really didn’t dare to walk around on his own.

The disciples of Divine Dao Mountain coming and going were mostly people with sharp eyes. Since they specialized in this path, many of them could see the connections entangling Wei Xianxing.

As a result, they couldn’t help but cast playful glances his way.

Wei Xianxing put on a thick skin and let them stare, but he was frustrated that no one came up to offer advice or point him in the right direction.

After waiting for half a day, he let out a long sigh.

"Junior Brother, you should head back first. Yuan Chu might be back soon. It’s not right to trouble you to waste your time here with me."

Bai Mo was about to say it was no trouble.

But then he remembered that many new prisoners had recently arrived at Mi Mountain, so it really wasn’t good for him to be away for long.

Plus, he’d just had an idea that he was eager to go back and test. So, he nodded and bid farewell to Wei Xianxing.

Before leaving, however, Bai Mo made a point of speaking to the disciple guarding the mountain.

Given his relationship with Divine Dao Mountain, he had enough standing to ask for a small favor.
