Chapter 450: Chapter 450: Testing the Pills

The dark cloud overhead paused for a moment.

The monster, over a hundred feet tall, let its smile fade and looked from side to side.

"A trap!"

It was decisive, turning as if to flee.

But just as it turned, it spun back around violently, its rotten spear stabbing down like lightning with a thunderous CRACK.

"Since I’m already here, how could I possibly leave empty-handed!?"

The wind and clouds stirred.

Nai Daoist had appeared at some unknown point, a deep smile on his face.

"A homeless dog wandering the worlds, insatiably greedy. I knew you wouldn’t leave."

He made a grasping motion with his large hand, summoning a hot, yellow wind that swept through the area, wrapping around the spear and halting its advance.

Facing such a formidable character, the monster in the dark cloud decisively let go of its weapon and fled.

"You think you can keep me here!?"

Before its words had even faded, Nai Daoist straightened up, thick, long fur bursting from his Daoist robes as his body expanded massively.

A vast shadow was cast upon the ground.

Beside them, Ah Er trembled, clutching the corner of Bai Mo’s clothes and refusing to let go.

The dense yellow wind howled. With a WHOOSH, flames ignited from thin air, obscuring Ah Er’s vision.

In just three breaths, the dark cloud in the sky was burned to nothing.

The flames died down. Nai Daoist’s form shrank, the thick fur retracting beneath his robes as he returned to his usual appearance.

A wisp of Divine Thought drifted down from the sky, landing on Bai Mo’s head.

Bai Mo’s eyes fluttered. A moment later, he opened them and looked to his side.

Blood trickled from the corner of Nai Daoist’s mouth.

It wasn’t his blood. It seemed the summoned monster had not escaped.

Nai Daoist suddenly let out a long breath. A stream of dark green energy sprayed out, twisting together to form a single green bead.

Bai Mo quickly caught it in his hand.

"Which creature did you visualize?"

Nai Daoist asked.

"A yaksha," Bai Mo replied.

Nai Daoist thought for a moment, then said, "I’m afraid that yaksha was killed by this fellow. Even its steel trident was reforged into that spear."

"However, this weapon is inauspicious. It’s not suitable for you, so I’ll be taking it."

"Of course."

Bai Mo didn’t care about the weapon. All he wanted was the green bead in his hand.

Still, that yaksha was a creature of the Divine Kingdom, and to be recorded in the Ten Thousand Spirits Map, it must have been a significant entity.

Now that the yaksha was killed, the Divine Dao had failed to protect it. This showed that the situation of the Divine Beings within it was dire.

Perhaps this was even the reason the Divine Kingdom had emerged in the mortal world.

Looking up at Nai Daoist, he saw the latter smiling.

"I’m not full yet. Let’s have another."

"Actually, you should have gotten Kunwu True Monarch for this. His technique of transforming into myriad beasts is profound and can handle all sorts of situations."

"He’d probably handle this more adeptly than I..."

’Does Kunwu True Monarch have an ancestral-level clan uncle?’

Bai Mo thought to himself. Then, remembering Nai Daoist’s ability to peer into people’s minds, he quickly suppressed the thought.

"I was the one who offered Kunwu True Monarch to Divine Dao Mountain. If he still holds a grudge, even if he doesn’t say anything openly, I’m afraid he’d pull some tricks behind our backs."

"After all, he’s a figure from the Demon Dao..."

Bai Mo said.

Nai Daoist was quite satisfied with that answer.

In the following days, the situation around Mi Mountain became turbulent.

Bai Mo performed his ritual, summoning fourteen entities.

All were creatures visualized from the Ten Thousand Spirits Map. However, only one of the actual beings answered the summons: a One-Eyed Giant.

The moment it appeared, its large eye saw through the entire scheme.

"Insatiable greed... what a treacherous world. To think someone would try to fish for the likes of me."

"That meager blood offering isn’t even enough to pick my teeth with. How stingy..."

The One-Eyed Giant retreated immediately, giving Nai Daoist no chance to strike.

A decisive one, indeed.

The last one they lured was a truly nasty customer. Nai Daoist couldn’t take it down in one go and was forced to abandon his physical form.

The expensive altar exploded with a BOOM.

Ah Er, who was on top and couldn’t escape in time, was caught off guard and sent flying for over two hundred feet.

It landed on its back with limbs splayed out, bruised and battered from the impact.

Bai Mo’s Divine Thought evaporated instantly. He was also sent flying by the shockwave, and his forehead was cut and bleeding.

A dark, gaping hole was blasted into the sky, which Nai Daoist, with an angry roar, suppressed until it formed a long, thin crack like a sliver of sky.

After a long while, the terrifying Spiritual Power fluctuations gradually faded away.

As the saying goes, if you walk by the river often enough, your shoes are bound to get wet.

To have successfully ambushed more than ten such entities was already beyond Bai Mo’s expectations.

There was no need for regret.

Beside him, Nai Daoist withdrew his technique. He was about to say something when his expression suddenly changed.

"Not good! The sect found out! My reputation isn’t enough to cover for this!"

"Kid, I’m going to go pull some strings. Clean up this altar, and don’t cause any more trouble for a while."

With that, he stirred up a yellow wind and was gone.

Bai Mo wiped his finger across the bleeding cut on his forehead. The wound, not even scabbed over, was already gone as the flesh had regrown.

After consuming Pills for so long, the accumulated medicinal power made regenerating flesh and blood an easy task.

The altar before him had been blasted into something resembling a chicken’s nest.

But most of the materials on it could still be salvaged.

Bai Mo found Ah Er, who had just gotten back up, and vigorously rubbed its face to stimulate blood flow and disperse the bruising.

Given its robust constitution, a few scrapes and bruises healed easily.

Bai Mo patted it on the head.

"Quick, we’ve been exposed! Tidy up!"

"Someone might come to investigate later."

Those words made Ah Er jump, snapping it back to its senses.

The man and beast hammered and banged away, busying themselves for a long time before they finally dismantled the remains of the altar.

By the time Ah Er had carried the last bundle of usable wood back to Mi Mountain, no one from the sect had come to investigate.

He figured Nai Daoist must have really used the Great Suanni’s name.

All was calm, which was a good thing.

It hadn’t been a waste for Bai Mo to drag him into this.

...

Twelve multicolored beads.

Their original forms were all beings at or above the Nascent Soul realm.

Whether due to their lifespans running out or for other reasons, they had transformed their forms, and over the long years, had acquired many new abilities.

They might not qualify as Divine Techniques, but they possessed a certain charm.

Bai Mo opened his Pill Furnace, added medicinal herbs, and directly refined them into Pills.

Not a single trace of their Spirit Charm was lost; it was all refined within the Pill Furnace, forming an imprint that covered the entire Pill.

For this attempt, Bai Mo used six of the beads.

He obtained six indigestible Outer Pills, each the size of a pigeon’s egg.

After several rounds of deductions, Bai Mo sighed.

’Nai Daoist was generous, leaving the densest essence for me.’

’But these Pills are not something a mere Foundation Establishment body can handle. I can’t even withstand the medicinal power alone...’

In the stone house, Bai Mo waved his sleeve to disperse the heat and called for Ah Er.

"Do you know many Cultivators in the marketplace?"

"Any senior brothers or sisters at the Core Formation Realm?"

Ah Er thought for a moment before nodding hesitantly.

Bai Mo was satisfied.

"Go change into something more presentable. Take this Pill to the marketplace, have it appraised, and then sell it."

"If someone knows what they’re looking at, they definitely won’t pass it up."

Bai Mo instructed earnestly.

"But there’s one condition: you must say that the Pill is tied to immense karma and cannot be circulated. You have to watch the final buyer consume it on the spot."

"Pay close attention to their reaction after taking the Pill, and report back to me when you return..."

He was going to use people to test the Pill.

Ah Er’s heart pounded with fear. It had a bad feeling about this job.

’If this goes wrong, my hundred-odd pounds of flesh will be up for sale in the market in a couple of days.’

But Bai Mo was very confident.

"The Pill is undoubtedly a good Pill. The real question is how effective it is. That’s what’s worth paying attention to..."
