Immortal Cultivation: Starting from a Pharmacy Apprentice
Chapter 385: Immortal Technique
Chapter 385: Chapter 385: Immortal Technique
Two days later, the Jiao Soul Pill was finally complete.
"What a shame."
Bai Mo sifted through the crystalline residue in the Pill Furnace. Amid a pile of yellow fragments, he found the crimson Pill.
The Pill was perfectly round and flawless. Held in his hand, however, it was unbearably hot.
’This jiao soul *was* from Celestial Barrier Mountain, after all. I thought it would last three days, but it turned out to be so weak...’
’The quality is mediocre, but it’ll have to do.’
After inspecting it for a moment, Bai Mo put away the Jiao Soul Pill and cleaned out the Pill Furnace.
Realizing it was his day to patrol the Black Prison, he headed straight there.
The moment he entered, he found the prison uncannily quiet, a stark contrast to its usual state.
Bai Mo’s heart stirred.
If anything had been out of the ordinary these past few days, it was the man brought back from Celestial Barrier Mountain.
’My senior brothers said he isn’t right in the head.’
’Could it be that this madman has been spouting nonsense and stirring things up?’
As he thought this, his gaze swept over a nearby row of cells. He noticed the distracted prisoners all seemed to be surreptitiously glancing toward the depths of the Black Prison.
Bai Mo quickened his pace and arrived at the cell in question.
As soon as he drew near, he saw the mad prisoner convulsing on the ground, lying on his side and twitching intermittently. A thin line of white foam lingered at the corner of his mouth.
Startled, Bai Mo quickly moved closer.
With a CLANG, he unfastened the lock and entered the cell.
With no time to think, Bai Mo flicked his hand. Two snow-white Pills appeared, and he immediately stuffed them into the man’s mouth.
The Pills dissolved instantly, flowing down his throat as two surging currents of warmth.
Bai Mo waited a moment, but the man showed no signs of improvement.
’Damn it all...’
At that critical moment, a prisoner in the adjacent cell suddenly spoke up.
"Poke him between the second and third ribs up from his left side..."
Bai Mo instinctively hesitated, wondering if he should trust a prisoner’s words.
But a moment later, he pushed his hesitation aside. ’This is my turf, after all,’ he thought. ’It won’t be easy for these inmates to pull any tricks.’
Without further delay, he found the spot and pressed down hard with his thumb.
The Core Formation Cultivator’s physique was extraordinary; Bai Mo’s thumb ached from the pressure.
No reaction.
Just as he was glancing suspiciously at the neighboring cell, he saw the prisoner who had spoken become exasperated.
"Aiyah! Just a mere Foundation Establishment brat. You can’t even press properly..."
"Use something to jab him!!"
Bai Mo’s expression darkened.
Nevertheless, he took out a pestle used for grinding herbs and jabbed the man hard with the handle.
"Cough..."
The mad Cultivator arched his back, let out a short, half-cough, then fell silent again as if something was caught in his throat.
Bai Mo breathed a sigh of relief.
The other prisoners in the cells lowered their gazes, though it was clear they had all been watching.
"Hmph!"
’I’m the warden, after all,’ Bai Mo thought. ’In a situation like this, I should at least say something to assert my authority and warn the prisoners not to get any funny ideas.’
Just as Bai Mo was about to get up, the mad Cultivator suddenly grabbed him.
"I spread the inheritance for the Immortal Monarch..."
The urgent words made Bai Mo freeze. They were followed by a stream of mysterious, self-absorbed muttering.
It was probably the incantation for a Cultivation Technique. Bai Mo emptied his mind, deliberately not committing any of it to memory, hearing only the final words: "Sacrificial Ceremony."
Some Immortal Techniques could be fatal even just by hearing them.
Coming from a madman who could stir up the emotions of the entire prison, Bai Mo dared not be careless about the incantation he was spouting.
"I have passed the first part to you, fellow Daoist. Wait until you have made progress in your cultivation, and then I shall tell you the second part."
"And remember, do not tell anyone. Go now!"
The mad Cultivator shoved Bai Mo toward the cell door, then flashed to the corner and curled up.
’He’s really lost his mind...’
Bai Mo shook his head, exited, locked the cell door, and continued his patrol.
By the time he had completed his rounds and left the Black Prison, Bai Mo had already overheard several people muttering fragments of the phrase "second part."
Ordinarily, it wouldn’t have been a big deal, but Bai Mo still reported the day’s events to the Foreign Affairs Hall.
The response he received was startling.
"He’s proselytizing for some ancient, mighty figure. The so-called ’Sacrificial Ceremony’ was an attempt by that figure on their path to immortality."
Bai Mo never imagined that part of what the mad prisoner said was actually true.
However, when he asked the Foreign Affairs Hall disciple if the `Sacrificial Ceremony` was a direct path to immortality, the disciple was dismissive.
"None of that mighty figure’s Immortal Techniques are viable. Even he himself failed to become an immortal, so what chance does someone with a fragmented inheritance have?"
That made sense. The mad Cultivator had been wandering around the other side of the Celestial Barrier Mountain range for a long time, yet he had only managed to reach the Core Formation Realm.
He couldn’t possibly be someone who had truly attained the Dao.
...
When the appointed day arrived, Dong Min and the female disciple came to his door right on time.
Bai Mo presented the Jiao Soul Pill, and Dong Min handed over the prepared Spirit Stones.
Both parties got what they wanted, and both were pleased.
"Excuse me, Junior Brother Bai, how should this Pill be taken?"
Bai Mo answered casually, "Just have him take it directly. If he survives the ordeal, his body will gradually grow back..."
Dong Min took his leave. He and the female disciple took turns piloting the Flying Ship.
They rushed to an earthen mound, found the Young Master’s location among the many caves, and hurried inside.
The cave was dry, and the thick scent of medicine assaulted Dong Min’s nostrils.
Upon reaching the end of the cave, he saw a stark-naked young man lying in a basin of bloody water, his breathing faint.
Half of the young man’s body was almost gone, with only some shriveled flesh trailing from it. He was being kept alive by the bloody water in the basin.
"Young Master, we’re back!"
The young man struggled to open his eyes and asked in a trembling voice:
"The Pill... is it ready?"
Dong Min quickly took out the Jiao Soul Pill.
"I’ve acquired it. That Junior Brother Bai said to take it directly."
He poured the Jiao Soul Pill from its bottle and suddenly felt its heat. Understanding dawned on him.
’He really is the genuine article!’
He brought the Pill to the young man’s mouth. The latter simply tilted his head back slightly and swallowed the Jiao Soul Pill without even chewing.
GULP!
The Pill dropped into his stomach with a loud thud.
The young man himself was startled, not understanding what had happened.
Just as he was about to say something, he suddenly felt a wave of heat rise from his abdomen and surge through his body, scorching him from within.
The young man immediately let out a muffled groan.
"Truly a fine treasure! So potent!!"
The moment the words left his mouth, a torrent of blood suddenly SPURTED from the stump of his half-body.
"Young Master!!" Dong Min stepped forward in alarm.
Seeing the young man in too much pain to speak, he was about to call for the disciples on watch when he noticed something strange.
From the stump of the young man’s ravaged half-body, fleshy tendrils were tentatively emerging, as if trying to weave themselves into new tissue.
"Wait!"
The young man ground out the word through clenched teeth.
Dong Min had no choice but to restrain himself and watch to see what would happen.
But after a short while, the waves of heat radiating from the young man’s body attracted the disciple guarding the earthen mound.
"What are you doing?!"
The green-robed disciple shouted, striding quickly to their side.
"He’s already half-dead! Aren’t you afraid you’ll torment him to death?"
He walked up to the bloody basin and peered inside, but his expression soon turned to one of shocked uncertainty.
Taking out a book, the green-robed disciple quickly flipped through a few pages before speaking hesitantly:
"What did you give him?"
