Immortal Ascension Through Marriage: Investing in My Wife Get Returns
Chapter 252 - 251: Celebration (4)
Lin Yuan stepped around the star-iron table. He did not ask her to wheel herself. He reached down, his warm hands grasping the handles of her wheelchair, and expertly guided her out of the grand hall, leaving Lord Zhao and a still-daydreaming Bai Chen behind.
They traversed the quiet, dimly lit corridors of the eastern royal pavilion until they reached the expansive, open-air balcony of their master suite.
The high-altitude winds of the metropolis were crisp and chilling, but the moment they stepped outside, Lin Yuan unconsciously expanded a barrier of his Qi, enveloping them both in a cocoon of perfect, comforting warmth.
The view from the balcony was staggering. Sky Jade City stretched out below them like a sprawling ocean of terrestrial starlight. The floating pagodas, the glowing spiritual rivers, and the massive, illuminated arches of the Province painted a picture of unfathomable, ancient wealth. But above them, the true night sky was pristine, undisturbed by the city’s glow, filled with a million brilliant, icy stars.
Lin Yuan guided her wheelchair to the edge of the carved stone railing, stepping around to stand beside her. He rested his hand casually on the stone, looking out over the expanse, the faint hum of his own Qi barrier the only sound between them and the wind.
"It is beautiful," Bai Qingyue murmured, her gaze sweeping over the glittering horizon. "To think that beneath all this light, there is so much cruelty, so much arrogance. From up here, it looks almost peaceful."
"Peace is an illusion crafted by those who have already won the war," Lin Yuan replied, his voice a low, resonant hum in the quiet night. "The area looks beautiful because they have spent millennia hoarding the light, leaving the weak to cultivate in the shadows. They build monuments to their own vanity, believing the foundation will never crack."
He turned his head, looking down at her. The ambient starlight caught the black strands of her hair, casting an ethereal, almost divine glow over her flawless features.
"Today, I showed them the crack," Lin Yuan continued, his deep purple eyes darkening with intense, focused emotion. "In two days, I will shatter the foundation entirely. I will break Jiang Wan’s absolute truth. I will break the Dao Court’s hierarchy. I will request Emperor Tianxu to remove the soul transformation restriction within you."
Bai Qingyue reached out from beneath her thick celestial-silk shawl. Her pale, slender hand found his resting on the stone railing. She intertwined her fingers with his, feeling the staggering, indestructible density of his flesh beneath her touch, a quiet reassurance that steadied something in her chest.
"I do not doubt you, Yuan. Not for a single breath," she said, her voice a fragile whisper of absolute faith. "When I saw the tri-colored light eruption from the ninth floor... when the entire Grand Court fell silent in terror... I knew. I knew that the man I married was not just an expert of the Zhao Province. You are the cultivator the Heavens have been dreading."
She squeezed his hand, her eyes lifting to meet his intense gaze.
"But you must promise me something," she pleaded softly, a rare vulnerability breaking through her serene composure. "When you face Jiang Wan, when you face the absolute apex of their power... do not let the destruction consume you. Do not lose the man you are in the pursuit of the man you are becoming."
Lin Yuan looked at her. He saw the genuine, profound fear in her eyes, not fear of him, but fear for him. She seemed to understand the corrupting nature of the Origin Dao. She knew that wielding the cycle of life and death could strip a man of his humanity, leaving behind nothing but a cold, indifferent being.
Lin Yuan did not answer with words.
He unclasped their hands, smoothly turning his body fully toward her. He reached down, his palms gently cupping the sides of her face. His thumbs softly brushed across her cheekbones, his touch carrying an infinite, agonizing gentleness that completely defied the violence he had unleashed just hours ago.
He leaned down, closing the distance between them.
"You are the anchor, Qingyue," Lin Yuan breathed, his lips hovering mere millimeters from hers. "As long as you are waiting for me, I could wade through the deepest abyss of the Origin, and I would never lose my way back to the light."
He pressed his lips to hers.
The kiss was not frantic, nor was it fueled by the desperate adrenaline of survival. It was incredibly slow, infinitely deep, and saturated with a profound, overwhelming devotion. It tasted of ozone and ancient rain, a flawless, harmonious blend of his sovereign authority and her yielding grace.
Bai Qingyue melted into the kiss entirely. She raised her hands, her cool fingers tangling into the dark, heavy strands of his hair, pulling him closer until there was absolutely no space left between them. A soft, musical sigh vibrated in the back of her throat, a sound of absolute, unconditional surrender to the man who could one day hold the universe in his hands, yet chose to hold her instead.
As they kissed under the infinite, starlit canopy of Sky Jade City, the heavy, chaotic politics of the Central Continent faded into irrelevance. The impending bloodbath of the main tournament, the absolute truth of Jiang Wan’s sword, and the terrifying weight of the Dao of Three Rebirths all ceased to exist. Below them, the endless lights of the city continued their slow, glittering churn, utterly indifferent to the two figures standing quietly above it all.
There was only the high-altitude wind, the scent of frozen orchids, and the absolute, unshakeable reality of their love, a love that had already begun to rewrite the destiny of the Nine Provinces.
