Chapter 560: Chapter 557: The Root Cure Method

"Xi, let me ask you a question."

"Go ahead, Senior."

"After you arrived on Senluo Island, did you see anything strange? Like this..."

Inside Xi’s Healing Space, Mo Ling took out his electronic tablet, opened the drawing app, and began to sketch earnestly.

A moment later, Xi fell silent as he stared at the indescribable object on the tablet.

"What is this? Senior, I can’t make out what it is..."

"It’s a Horned Elephant. This is its trunk, and this, this is its horn..." Mo Ling pointed to the different parts of the indescribable object, explaining with great earnestness.

"And this?" Xi asked, pointing to a part that looked like a crab’s pincer.

"Those are the eyes. They’re oval-shaped, with a slit in the middle. I just didn’t draw the oval very well, and the line is crooked."

"I understand, Senior," Xi said, not meaning it in the slightest. He stared at the drawing on the tablet with all his might, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t connect the image to his memory of a "Horned Elephant."

"Good, as long as you understand!" Mo Ling clapped Xi on the shoulder. "Did you see any Horned Elephants after you got to Senluo Island?"

"No," Xi replied with certainty.

"Then did you see any creatures that looked... stitched together?" Mo Ling pressed.

"What do you mean, ’stitched together’?"

"I mean creatures with all sorts of limbs and organs, fusions of plants and animals, all jumbled together." As Mo Ling explained, he prepared to draw on his tablet again.

But Xi quickly stopped him. "Senior, you don’t have to draw. I get it. I haven’t seen any creatures like that."

"Really? Then tell me everything that happened after you arrived on Senluo Island."

"Of course, Senior." Xi agreed. Though he didn’t know why Mo Ling wanted to know all this, or what had truly happened on Senluo Island, he still recounted his experience in detail.

"After emerging from the cave onto Senluo Island, he came to a lake, then entered a forest, and then the forest of Matrix Trees. Though he got lost, he found the Administrator without any trouble, thanks to the directions on Li Luo’s tablet..."

That was the sum of Xi’s experience on Senluo Island. No bizarre, stitched-together creatures, and no desiccated bodies within the Matrix Trees. Everything was perfectly normal.

After hearing Xi’s story, Mo Ling confirmed once again that his feeling had been correct.

’The timeline... it really has changed.’

’Everything about the anomaly on Senluo Island has completely changed.’

’Senluo Island is normal, the Administrator is normal... Nothing ever happened.’

’So what was the cause?’

Mo Ling knew it had to be the result of him clearing away those black spheres, but he couldn’t understand how it was possible.

"Xi, let me ask you one more question." 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

"Go ahead, Senior."

"So, I have this friend..."

Mo Ling recounted his own recent experience from the perspective of his "friend," telling Xi every last detail before asking, "What do you think could have caused a result like that?"

Xi wasn’t stupid. He quickly deduced that this was very likely a true story, but he didn’t press for details. He just stood there, lost in thought for a long time.

"Senior, you just said... your friend saw what the patient looked like as a child?"

"Yes."

"And then your friend found the root cause of the patient’s affliction and completely eliminated its source?"

"That’s right," Mo Ling nodded.

"Then I understand. Your friend must have accidentally used the ’Root Source Healing Method,’" Xi said with absolute certainty.

"The ’Root Source Healing Method’? What’s that?" Mo Ling pressed.

Xi gathered his thoughts and began to explain.

"Senior, your friend didn’t heal the patient as they exist now, but the patient as they existed in the past. By eliminating the root of the disease before the affliction ever manifested, everything that came after naturally never happened."

"Let me give you an example, Senior."

"Imagine a patient severely injures their leg by stepping in a trap. The normal method of healing is to mend the wound. But this might leave lasting side effects, and the patient could also be left with psychological trauma. Even if the wound heals perfectly, they would still feel fear whenever they passed the spot where they were injured."

"The Root Source Healing Method, however, involves using healing power to reach the location of the root cause and eliminate it completely. For this patient, the root cause *is* the trap itself."

"Certain powerful healers can use their power to erase the trap’s very existence from the timeline. If they do, the patient will have never stepped in the trap and never been injured. The entire incident ceases to exist. This not only ’heals’ the wound, but it ensures the patient is left with no psychological trauma."

"The Root Source Healing Method is the most thorough form of healing, but as far as I know, only a handful of healers can wield their power to such a degree. Your friend, Senior, probably used this method by accident."

Xi paused, then asked cautiously.

"Senior, that friend you mentioned... is it actually you?"

"Of course not. I’m not that powerful," Mo Ling immediately denied.

’Of course, it’s not that I actually used the Root Source Healing Method.’ Mo Ling guessed it was more likely due to the unique nature of the Administrator’s Healing Space. ’Perhaps targets for healing from different points in time were superimposed, leading to this result.’

Mo Ling remembered what Elder Ladi had said in the Administrator’s Healing Space:

"The Administrator is very special. His space is chaotic."

’Perhaps it was that chaos that had a strange chemical reaction with my teleportation.’

’Still, the result is a good one. It’s better for it to have never happened at all than to try and fix things after the fact.’

’The Root Source Healing Method, huh? What a strange way of healing. Healing power really is omnipotent,’ Mo Ling mused.

"Senior, do you have any other questions?"

"I do. Do you know what this is?" Mo Ling held out his hand, and a wad of black mud, kneaded from the black spheres, appeared in his palm.

The moment Xi saw the black mud, he recoiled, taking half a step back as if startled.

"What’s wrong?" Mo Ling asked quickly.

"Such powerful loneliness... What is this?" Xi asked, stunned.

"Loneliness?" Mo Ling was confused.

"Yes, loneliness. I can feel loneliness in this black mud." Xi slowly walked over to Mo Ling and took hold of his other hand.

"Can you feel it, Senior? I’m passing my sensation on to you."

Mo Ling didn’t answer, just staring blankly at the black mud in his hand.

The instant Xi touched him, the black mud in his hand erupted with a powerful emotion. A tidal wave of loneliness crashed over him, threatening to drown him.

BOOM!

Mo Ling’s hand trembled, and he flung Xi’s hand away.

The moment he let go, the silence returned.

He looked at the black mud again. There was no tidal wave, no overwhelming loneliness. The mud just lay quietly in his palm as if nothing had happened.

Mo Ling glanced at the black mud, then at the stunned Xi before him.

He had brought this black mud out of the Administrator’s Healing Space. The last time, Xi hadn’t sensed loneliness, but emptiness.

’Emptiness... loneliness...’

An idea suddenly struck Mo Ling.

’Does this black mud trigger a healer’s negative emotions?’
