I'm Trapped in the Block
Chapter 311 - 308: Nightfall
Chapter 311: Chapter 308: Nightfall
Li Luo had already fallen into a deep sleep, utterly silent.
The faint white light was still shining, but Li Luo seemed unaffected by it. In fact, he was sleeping very peacefully.
Mo Ling had never seen Li Luo sleep so peacefully before.
Usually, Li Luo was a very light sleeper. He would often wake at the slightest sound—the professional vigilance of a Hunter at work.
But now, in this obviously strange hotel, Li Luo was sleeping like a log, which made Mo Ling feel that something was even more wrong.
’It’s eerily quiet.’
Mo Ling’s vision expanded.
The strangely structured hotel was completely empty. Mo Ling discovered that Li Luo was the only guest; all the other rooms were vacant, illuminated only by the same dim, white light.
The layout of every room was identical: pure white, with no sharp corners.
After returning to the counter, the hotel owner tidied up for a moment, then walked to the entrance to look at the street before shutting the main door tightly.
She walked with slow steps to a room behind the counter.
This room’s layout was also identical to the guest rooms. The owner sat on the edge of the bed, took out an electronic screen, and began scrolling through it.
It appeared to be the hotel’s guest registry, but the guests on the list had only "identities," not names:
"Fire Thief."
"Researcher."
"Cyclist."
"Beggar"
...
Mo Ling recognized many of the identities on the list.
These were all people he had seen on the island during the day.
’A beggar stayed at the hotel too?’
As Mo Ling was still pondering this, the hotel owner scrolled past it, so he could only continue reading down the list.
The list kept scrolling down, and Mo Ling saw many other strange identities:
"Nest Builder."
"Watcher."
"Night Watcher."
"Prophet."
"Successor."
...
Looking at these strange identities, Mo Ling felt a sense of unease.
’Could all these people have stayed in this hotel? And did they all remain on Paradise Island?’
When the hotel owner reached this section, her scrolling slowed considerably. Her rough fingertips traced over each identity as she silently muttered something.
Finally, she stopped scrolling altogether and just stared blankly at the electronic screen for a long time. The image on the screen remained frozen, trembling slightly with her fingertip.
Mo Ling could see clearly that there were more names further down the list, but the hotel owner didn’t scroll any further.
She just frowned and kept watching.
After a long while, the hotel owner let out a long sigh, and the screen went dark.
She held her hand out to the light from the wall, feeling its glow, then glanced around before placing the electronic screen on the bedside table.
’Is she going to sleep?’
Mo Ling was still thinking about the names on the list, but the hotel owner had already lain down on the bed.
The dim white light fell on her face.
Just like Li Luo, the hotel owner quickly fell into a deep sleep, and a very sound one at that. It seemed the white light truly possessed some kind of soporific magic, capable of making everyone drowsy and fall into a deep slumber.
Faint snores could be heard. No one in the entire hotel was awake anymore.
Mo Ling’s vision didn’t linger in the hotel for long. Passing through the walls, he arrived on the street.
The street was now completely deserted. Night had fallen, and even though it wasn’t very late, Paradise Island already felt like it was the middle of the night.
A faint glow covered all the buildings, and the purpose of their edgeless exteriors now became clear.
The light cast no shadows on these structures. Ubiquitous light sources illuminated the streets, as if a pure white wedding veil was draped over the island.
The dark of night had no effect on anything on this island.
No matter how dark the night grew, this dim white light could reach every corner of the island. Reflected by the pure white buildings, no shadow could hide.
’This truly is Paradise, eternal light.’
Mo Ling couldn’t help but sigh with emotion as he watched the scene.
But this Paradise was completely silent.
Mo Ling’s vision seeped into other buildings, and he discovered that the people inside had also fallen into a deep, peaceful sleep.
Within his entire field of vision, Mo Ling couldn’t find a single person who was awake. It seemed that as the light spread, people slept even more soundly.
The dim white light did indeed make one feel drowsy.
Mo Ling had only been observing for a short while, but he was already feeling dizzy from the white light.
He had no choice but to sit down on his bed and retract his vision, intending to clear his head first.
’So sleepy... ’
Mo Ling shook his head. He had only paid a little attention to the white light, and not even with his own eyes, yet he was already overcome with such intense drowsiness.
’No wonder the people basking in the white light are sleeping so soundly.’
Mo Ling had originally guessed that the people of Paradise Island simply had an unusual schedule, that going to bed at sunset wasn’t a particularly strange habit.
But now, this intense drowsiness made Mo Ling cast his original theory aside.
’The people on this island clearly can’t fight off the sleepiness, which is why they go to bed so early.’
As he thought this, Mo Ling started to yawn.
On board the Paradise, he had been constantly on edge. The rocking of the ship had also made it impossible to get a good night’s sleep.
Now, the exhaustion accumulated over the past week washed over him.
Once the drowsiness set in, it was impossible to suppress.
Mo Ling felt his thoughts becoming fragmented and chaotic. Just as a coherent idea began to form, his mind would suddenly jump to something else entirely.
’Can’t fall asleep...’
Mo Ling forced himself to stay alert, wanting to walk around inside the Block, but his body wouldn’t leave the bed.
The moment he tried to stand up, his eyelids grew heavy, and his mind went blank.
In a daze, Mo Ling felt himself stand up, but when he regained a moment of clarity, he found he was still on the bed.
The drowsiness grew stronger, even starting to cause hallucinations.
Mo Ling struggled constantly, trying to rally his spirits, but this struggle was useless. It only made the sleepiness more pronounced.
’Maybe I should just sleep for a little while?’
’Wait until I feel more rested, then continue the investigation?’
’No, I have to stay awake tonight. There’s definitely something wrong with that light.’
Mo Ling felt as if he could hear two little figures arguing in his head.
He knew perfectly well he shouldn’t fall asleep, yet all sorts of excuses kept popping into his mind.
His consciousness grew increasingly blurry, and the moments of blankness lasted longer and longer.
Without realizing it, Mo Ling had collapsed onto the bed.
Lying down like this made the drowsiness even more intense. He felt himself continuously sinking into a peaceful dreamland.
’Stay awake... there might still be danger outside...’
Even as he thought this, he drifted off again.
’Snap out of it... there’s definitely something wrong with this island...’
Then he drifted off again.
After struggling repeatedly, Mo Ling finally sank into the inescapable chaos, sleeping soundly and sweetly.
