I'm Trapped in the Block
Chapter 304 - 301: Identity
Chapter 304: Chapter 301: Identity
During her few days on the ship, Li Luo and Block had been running all over the Paradise, getting to know its various robots.
The ship was filled with robots, each with its own duties. These responsibilities were meticulously divided; even the smallest facilities had a dedicated robot in charge, some of which just stood there, doing nothing at all.
Not only that, but each of these robots also had its own unique personality.
The one thing they all had in common was a clear and precise identity.
Over the past few days, whenever Li Luo encountered a robot on the ship, she would ask about its identity, and each robot would answer her earnestly.
"What’s your identity?" Li Luo asked, approaching a robot polishing a glass at the bar.
"You should be able to tell. I am a bartender."
It gave Li Luo an elegant bow and replied in a gentle tone.
"Would you care for a drink, ma’am? It’s been a long time since we’ve had a customer."
Li Luo nodded. "I’ll have a Coke."
"I’m very sorry, we only have alcohol here, no Coke," the bartender replied earnestly, pointing to the liquor displayed behind the bar.
"That’s fine, I brought my own."
Li Luo looked toward Block, and Mo Ling tossed out two bottles of Coke.
"Pour these into glasses for me, and add some ice," Li Luo said to the bartender, pointing at the two Coke bottles that had appeared out of thin air on the bar.
The bartender stared blankly at the Coke, then turned to look at Block.
"My apologies, I don’t know how to prepare Coke."
"It’s the same as when you mix a drink. Pour it into a glass, add some ice. That’s it."
"I’m sorry, ma’am, I truly don’t know how. I only have alcohol here. I don’t know how to handle anything else."
The bartender pleaded with Li Luo.
Even though it was holding a glass, there was Coke on the bar, and an ice machine was right behind it, the robot remained firm in its identity—a mixologist, one who only mixed *alcohol*.
Li Luo stared at it for a long time. The bartender maintained an apologetic expression, making it impossible to tell if it genuinely didn’t know how.
"Forget it. I’ll do it myself."
Li Luo walked behind the bar, got some ice herself, and poured the Coke. The bartender just stood there blankly, not moving a muscle, until Li Luo had finished everything.
"You really don’t know how, do you?" Li Luo asked again, sipping her Coke doubtfully.
"Truly. My apologies."
"You just watched me do it. Did you learn?"
"No. I only know how to mix drinks..."
’It was still clinging to its identity...’
Li Luo and Mo Ling encountered situations like this many times on the ship.
In front of the dining hall, there was a robot that always stood perfectly still. Every time Li Luo passed by, it would open the door for her and call out, "Welcome."
Later, after it got to know Li Luo, it would also greet her personally.
"Lady Li Luo, you’ve come for your meal quite early today. This is the optimal time for human digestion. I wish you a pleasant meal..."
"Lady Li Luo, the Paradise entered a storm last night, but the captain activated the lightning soundproofing in advance. I trust you slept soundly? There will be some after-dinner desserts later to soothe the spirit. Be sure to try them..."
"Lady Li Luo, the Paradise has entered the Stingfish Sea Region today, and the weather has been lovely. You’ll be able to enjoy delicious braised stingfish for the next few days. Remember not to eat the flesh—the delicious fish bones will surely captivate you..."
It seemed to know everything about the ship.
After Li Luo asked, this enthusiastic robot told her its identity—a doorman.
It knew practically everything about the ship: sailing, fishing, cooking, cleaning... The doorman was omniscient. Whenever Li Luo chatted with it, it could talk at length about anything, understanding even the most detailed principles.
But, just like a "teacher," even though it knew everything, it wouldn’t actually do any of those things.
It performed its duties as a doorman to perfection and could satisfy all of Li Luo’s related needs. But the moment a request touched on anything outside the bounds of a doorman’s identity, it would shake its head and tell her, "I’m sorry, I don’t know how. I’m just a doorman."
These robots were extremely sensitive to the boundaries of their roles and would never overstep them. Every time Li Luo tried to get one to push those limits, it would just refer her request to another robot.
After several failed attempts, Li Luo stopped pestering the seemingly all-knowing doorman.
However, through continuous interaction, Li Luo found a way to bypass the robots’ identity protocols.
The breakthrough came from that lonely robot in the gym...
"What’s your identity?"
"A fitness coach, ma’am. You can come to me with any fitness-related questions or problems you may have," the coach replied proudly.
"Then can you come spot me for a few sets?" Li Luo asked tentatively.
"Of course. It would be my honor." The coach was clearly delighted to be needed and hurried over to help Li Luo complete her exercises.
At that moment, Li Luo began to probe.
"Coach, would you say fishing counts as a form of fitness?"
"Of course. Fishing not only exercises the body but also lifts the spirits. While not high-intensity, it is a form of exercise, and exercise definitely counts as fitness."
As soon as the topic touched on its area of expertise, the coach began to hold forth: "Normal angling is a low-intensity activity. It also allows you to breathe fresh air for extended periods, and the prolonged sun exposure can improve a person’s blood circulation..."
Li Luo nodded, listening to the coach’s explanation.
"I heard from the dining hall’s doorman that the Paradise has entered the Stingfish Sea Region. Do you think it would be feasible for me to go fishing?"
"Absolutely! The sun is shining brightly on the deck right now. It’s the perfect time for fishing," the coach replied with certainty.
"Then come with me now. You can teach me how to fish." Li Luo revealed her true objective.
"But... I..." The coach clearly hadn’t expected such a request from Li Luo.
"But what? Doesn’t fishing count as fitness? Are you telling me you don’t know fitness?"
This question clearly provoked the coach.
"Of course I do! Rest assured, ma’am. I will do everything in my power to teach you anything and everything related to fitness..."
And just like that, Li Luo and the coach went to the deck and started fishing.
Sure enough, as soon as their duties were involved, these robots became incredibly professional.
The coach pulled in fish after fish, all while explaining various fishing techniques to Li Luo.
"Stingfish are drawn to turbulent water. The wake from the Paradise is perfect for attracting lots of them. They’ll follow behind the ship, chasing any scraps that fall off. If we fish from the stern, we can easily catch them..."
"You don’t need to be picky about bait. Stingfish will eat anything, even garbage. Just let the hook drift back with the current, and they’ll bite. It’s very simple. You try..."
Before they knew it, the bucket behind them was filled to the brim with strange-looking stingfish.
