I'm the Only Magus in This Witch World

Chapter 222: I Just Cast a Spell

  • Next Chapter

"Seriously, I just don’t understand. How did you manage to produce that much ice in a place where there’s practically no water at all?"

One of the Witches finally asked the question they were all dying to know the answer to.

They had already realized there was no Witch nearby, meaning that even if Magna was a Shadow, he couldn’t receive the mana needed to cast a spell without his Witch being close enough.

Besides, even a Shadow as powerful as Arthas couldn’t possibly receive enough mana to cast a spell capable of freezing an entire mountain.

They had also considered the possibility that he had used an artifact, but was there even one capable of producing such an effect?

Even their Fire Cannon was a special artifact that required Renna to pour her own mana into it before it could fire.

So, even if Magna had used something similar, he would still have needed an external mana supply powerful enough to produce such an enormous freezing effect.

That left only 1 possibility they could think of.

Magna had cast the spell using his own mana reserves.

Yet as far as any of them knew, it was impossible for a man to possess mana reserves in the first place.

While everyone waited for his answer, Renna frowned at her teammate’s question.

She had deliberately avoided asking such things herself, knowing that Magna had secrets he might prefer to keep hidden.

There was also something she knew that none of the others did.

Before Magna disappeared into the Underworld, Renna had been just an apprentice 5th Trial Witch at the Tower.

Her teacher at the time was an 18th Trial Witch, someone who wasn’t particularly powerful by the Tower’s standards, although she certainly wasn’t weak either.

Then, one day, her teacher was suddenly replaced by someone far more powerful and renowned, following a direct order from one of the Grand Witches.

Renna hadn’t understood why she was receiving such special treatment. She possessed neither extraordinary talent nor an exceptionally powerful Bloodline Trait that might attract the attention of someone so important.

To make matters more confusing, she later learned that Faye, who was also studying at the Tower at the time, had received the similar treatments.

The reason only became clear when a letter arrived from her grandmother, Rowena.

According to the letter, one of the Grand Witches had placed the Cinder and Winterborne families under her patronage.

And the very reason for that was Magna.

Whatever he had done, it had apparently been enough to attract the attention one of the 5 Grand Witches. As a result, those close to him had begun enjoying privileges that most Witches could only dream of, all thanks to the special attention of the 50th Trial Witch.

Renna had never managed to understand what Magna could possibly have done to become so important.

Unfortunately, she never got the chance to find out.

The Witch World soon descended into chaos, with invasions spreading across the realm and territories falling one after another. Not long afterward, she lost her grandmother during the fighting.

Yet even after Rowena’s death, the special attention Renna received from the Grand Witches not only continued but actually increased.

It was one of the main reasons she had been able to advance so quickly over the following years, passing her trials one after another until she reached the 23rd Trial in just 12 years, becoming one of the youngest Witches in history to achieve that rank.

Of course, those privileges weren’t the only reason behind her rapid advancement.

She had proven her talent and strength countless times throughout those years, earning the 2 golden lines on her Witch Hat entirely through her own efforts.

Still, she wasn’t foolish enough to ignore how much Magna had influenced her life.

Even after disappearing for 12 years, his name alone had continued opening doors for her, providing opportunities and protection when she needed them most.

It was strange how someone who wasn’t even around anymore could still have such an influence on another person’s life.

And perhaps that was what made her so curious about him.

Of everyone present, Renna was probably the one who wanted to know the most about Magna, especially what made him so important that even the Grand Witches had taken an interest in him.

Yet despite all those questions, she held herself back, unwilling to put him in an uncomfortable position by asking about things he might want to keep secret.

That was why she frowned when one of her teammates asked exactly that kind of question.

However, Magna didn’t appear uncomfortable at all.

"I just cast a spell," he answered casually.

In the past, he would have done everything he could to hide that fact, or at least avoided answering the question.

Now, strangely enough, he almost looked like he had been waiting for someone to ask.

After giving his answer, he watched the faces around him with amusement.

Their reactions were exactly what he had wanted.

The wide eyes, the mouths hanging open, the disbelief written across their faces. He found himself enjoying every bit of it.

And it wasn’t only because he had managed to impress them.

There was something particularly satisfying about doing something others believed to be impossible, then watching them struggle to understand how it could have happened.

For those Witches, a man casting a spell went against everything they knew about the world.

For Magna, it was simply something he could do.

That difference was what made their reactions so entertaining.

’I should do this more often.’ The thought came to him so naturally that he didn’t even question it.

Some people became addicted to sex, others to gambling or the thrill of adrenaline. Everyone had something they enjoyed so much that they wanted to experience it again and again.

Magna was beginning to realize that this might be his own addiction.

And thinking about it, this wasn’t even the first time he had experienced such enjoyment.

Wasn’t it one of the main reasons he had created the God Simulator game in the first place?

Back then, he had taken on the role of the God of Games, turning entire worlds into games and watching how the people living in them reacted.

Sometimes, he would reincarnate someone into another realm. Other times, he would grant an ordinary mortal powers beyond anything they could have imagined.

Each time, the part he enjoyed most was witnessing their reactions.

The disbelief of someone discovering that the rules they had lived by their entire life could suddenly change. The shock of realizing that something they had always considered impossible was now happening to them.

For those people, such events could change their entire lives while for Magna, they had been part of the fun of playing God.

And now, looking at the Witches and Shadows surrounding him, he was beginning to experience that same pleasure again.

It reminded him of just how much fun he used to have back then.

Even Renna was staring at him in shock, as this was the one possibility she had never considered.

"What do you mean you cast a spell?" She set aside her reluctance to question him, deciding that she needed to be more direct if she wanted to understand him better.
