I'm the Only Magus in This Witch World

Chapter 152: Deep Sleep Isn’t Always a Good Thing

Magna started to feel even less special after hearing him.

A random Shadow candidate he met on his first day outside in the world already had 5 bloodline traits, with the potential for 1 more. That had quite an impact on his expectations from his reincarnation.

It was wrong. Completely wrong.

He had to be the most special, most overpowered, most broken character in this world, but what now?

He was even going through so much pain to gain every one of his mutations and traits each time.

But some random guy could just be born with 5 of them casually. That was definitely the definition of being born with a silver spoon in your mouth.

’Okay, calm down. I still have Gaia.’ He took a breath, calming his resentment.

Also, when he thought about how Matrim wasn’t an ordinary guy either, it at least made him feel a little better, knowing there were only a handful of people like them in the entire world.

Currently, the other 9 children in the area had to be part of that handful, the strongest ones of their generation, so the others probably had similar powers as well.

He even asked who was the strongest among them.

’’From what I’ve observed over the past 4 days, I’m the 5th strongest among them. That’s how I got this hut to myself.’’ He paused before adding with a laugh, ’’Until now, of course.’’

Magna quickly did the math. Since there were 7 huts for 9 people, there had to be 5 single-person huts, while the other 2 had 2 people staying in each.

With Magna’s arrival, the situation had changed to 3 huts with 2 people sharing them and 4 huts with only 1 person in each.

’’How strong are they compared to me?’’ He tried to get more insight.

Matrim gave it some real thought. He spent a long time thinking, calculating things in his head and trying to picture the situation before finally saying, ’’Maybe 3rd? I don’t know your full strength, but I also don’t know the others’. At most, I can say I can put you in second place.’’

’’What about first place?’’

This time, Matrim didn’t need to think at all before answering. ’’That place literally belongs to a monster.’’

Seeing the confusion on Magna’s face, he clarified. ’’You saw the boy whose face was completely covered?’’

Magna nodded, though he hadn’t examined everyone in much detail. The darkness of the night had also made it difficult, but he could still remember everyone since he had quite a good memory and rarely forgot what he saw.

’’That one is actually a Drakon.’’

Knowing that Magna, being a country bumpkin, wouldn’t know what it was, he generously gave him an explanation. ’’Drakons are a kind of different race that comes from a dragon-human mixed lineage. They are naturally born insanely strong and resistant to things like fire and cold, depending on their household.’’

It was hard to imagine how a dragon and a human could produce a lineage together, but Magna didn’t linger on that thought.

The only thing he was thinking about was how strong the boy could actually be and how powerful his bloodline traits were.

In the end, whether someone was a monster or a human, how strong they were was still determined by their bloodline traits.

’’Anyway, I can tell you still have questions, but it’s better to get some rest now.’’ Matrim suggested as he pointed at his broken leg. ’’I can only heal it faster by sleeping.’’

It wasn’t hard to understand that this was probably one of his bloodline traits.

Magna accepted his suggestion, as he was also feeling quite tired after that journey.

He offered Matrim the spot where the soft blanket was laid out, as it probably belonged to him, but the boy refused, saying it was Magna’s right.

Anyway, the boy was fast asleep as soon as he closed his eyes. While Magna was still getting up, he had already started hearing his soft snores.

’Is this kind of bloodline trait as well?’ He looked at him, thinking it would be quite a useful one if it was.

Then he picked up the bowl of meat stew that was still full from the ground. He thought for a while about whether he should eat it, then decided to do so, as whether he ate or not, his natural regeneration would eventually push his Mana Reserve to its capacity anyway.

Mana 97.8%

By his estimation, it would probably hit 100% around sunrise, so it was still safe for him. He walked to the corner and lay down on the soft blanket on his back.

He was quite worried about whether he could really sleep in a place like this while all the uncertainties waiting for him in the morning filled his mind with a thousand thoughts.

But fortunately, as soon as he closed his eyes, he realized how tired he really was, and sleep came to him quite quickly.

—

Magna only opened his eyes when sunlight started pouring into his hut, finally waking him up.

He had gotten an incredibly deep sleep throughout the night. He hadn’t woken up even once, his sleep hadn’t been interrupted, and he hadn’t even dreamed, leaving him feeling incredibly rested and energetic.

But he didn’t feel the slightest bit good about it. He immediately got to his feet and cautiously looked around.

Even at the safe Winterborne Estate, he would never sleep this deeply, as his senses were always active, especially his presence sense, which would wake him up at the slightest change in his surroundings or whenever he sensed an unfamiliar presence.

In a place this unfamiliar and filled with potential dangers, it was strange that he had been able to sleep so deeply, making him feel that something was wrong.

He saw Matrim still sleeping on the ground, curled up and softly snoring.

Apart from his snoring, there was no other sound around them. Not even the chirping of birds or the sound of the wind reached his ears.

He instantly knew something really was wrong.

Still keeping all his senses open and on high alert, he slowly walked toward the boy and called out.

’’Matrim, wake up.’’

But the boy was sleeping too deeply and didn’t even move.

Magna had to call him one more time and finally nudge him with his foot to wake him up.

’’What?’’ Matrim rubbed his eyes and lifted his head, only then realizing that it was already bright outside. ’’The sun has already risen?’’

He immediately got to his feet as he also realized that something was off.

Unlike Magna, he had been born into a family where his training to become a Shadow had started as soon as he was born.

Every single day of his life had been about awareness and training to remain constantly alert, so sleeping this deeply was probably a first for him as well.

’’Let’s check outside.’’ Magna whispered as he walked toward the door.

When he got outside, there was only 1 person sitting near the campfire that had gone out during the night but was still giving off a little smoke.
