I'm the Only Magus in This Witch World
Chapter 149: Sometimes, You Just Have to Stop Being Kind
Magna wasn’t sure if these kids were just this difficult, or if he himself was just bad at making a few friends.
He had practiced quite a lot with the maids back home, but it looked like he hadn’t improved much at all.
He gave a sigh and decided to just handle the matter like an adult.
"Look, I don’t mean anything by it, and I don’t want any trouble. I just need something to eat and a place where I can spend the night and sleep."
His reasonable words might have worked if he were still on Earth, yet they had no effect here.
"Sorry, my friend." The tall guy finally pulled his hand back from his shoulder and turned to walk away. "But here, if you want something, you need to take it yourself."
He walked off without even looking back, entering one of the huts and closing the door behind him.
The other boys, some looking dissatisfied that there would be no fight and some who had simply lost interest, turned to head back to their huts as well, closing the doors behind them.
Left alone now in the cold night, Magna started rubbing his temples, wondering exactly where he had gone wrong.
Soon he realized his mistake, thinking back on the tall boy’s last words as if they had been some kind of advice.
"So I just stop being kind?" He murmured, starting to walk toward one of the huts.
He came to stand in front of the door the tall guy had entered, since it looked like he was one of the few staying alone.
He put his hand on the wooden door’s handle but felt resistance. It was locked.
Hoping they wouldn’t charge him for property damage later, he pulled harder on the handle, and with a cracking sound, the door handle broke clean off along with the whole lock, staying in his hand.
He pushed the door open, and just as he was about to step inside, a fist shot out from within, aimed straight at his chest.
It was quite fast, yet Magna was already prepared for it, having tracked the presence inside the whole time. He quickly dodged the fist.
Another fist came right after, this time aimed at his head and faster than the last one.
This time, Magna wasn’t ready for something this fast. He raised his arm to block the second punch.
BAM!
The impact felt like being struck with a sledgehammer, sending his body flying backward several meters.
Nevertheless, it wasn’t enough to make him lose his footing, allowing him to land on his feet.
His eyes stayed glued to the entrance of the hut, watching the tall guy step out slowly.
"You really chose my place to force your way into?" He didn’t look angry at all, still smiling.
But with that smile and his narrowed eyes, it was clear he was looking down on him. "You’ll really die on your first night."
Magna wasn’t intimidated in the slightest by his words. He just shook out the arm that had taken the hit, feeling only a little ache while looking directly into the boy’s eyes before asking.
"Is it allowed to kill here?"
He was only asking out of curiosity, but without meaning to, his eyes had already turned cold, ready to attack depending on the answer he got.
The tall guy hesitated a second seeing that, but he didn’t back down.
He kept walking as he spoke. "Killing isn’t allowed."
With every step he took, the ground beneath his feet crumbled and caved in further, and his smile slowly turned into a serious expression.
"But you are allowed to die." With that, he suddenly lunged forward with his long legs.
Despite his incredible body weight, he was quite fast, but of course not fast enough for Magna to be unable to counter.
Before the fist could reach him, Magna was already moving. He stepped forward, caught the incoming fist by the wrist, and gave the arm a forceful yank.
The sudden pull threw the tall boy off balance.
Then he raised his foot and brought it down hard on the boy’s lower leg.
"Aghhh!"
A loud crack echoed through the air as the tall guy screamed in pain.
Magna had already let go of his wrist, watching the boy writhing on the ground in pain, his lower leg broken and twisted into the wrong position.
He didn’t attack again, just said coldly. "So I’m allowed to leave you here like this to die. I understand."
When he turned to enter the hut, he saw the other boys had already left their huts to watch the fight.
The moment they had heard the commotion, they had rushed outside, excited to see a fight, but as soon as they saw how easily Magna had incapacitated the tall guy, their faces all suddenly went strange.
The one they had thought looked like a country bumpkin apparently wasn’t someone to underestimate.
Realizing this, and giving one last look at the tall boy writhing on the ground in pain, they just casually turned and went back into their huts.
Magna didn’t find their behavior strange, since he was doing the same thing himself, stepping inside the hut, which was finally empty for him now.
The inside was fairly bright, lit by the light of a fire burning in the fireplace.
It was also very warm, making his cold body feel much better almost instantly.
There wasn’t much inside. There wasn’t even a bed, only a soft looking blanket used as a floor mat, rolled out in one corner.
Apart from that, there were a few utensils set on the floor in another corner, since there wasn’t even a table, things like pots, pans, plates, knives, and forks.
Out of everything, what caught Magna’s attention the most was the small pot on the fireplace, steam rising from it along with quite a delicious smell spreading through the air.
He instantly walked toward it and looked inside, seeing a soup with some vegetables and pieces of meat floating in it.
"Man, if you had just shared this with me, we would already be best friends." He sighed, still hearing the boy’s pained screaming coming from outside.
Finding a clean bowl nearby, he took the ladle from the boiling pot and poured himself a serving.
He decided to fill his empty stomach first before planning the rest of his night.
