I'm the Only Magus in This Witch World
Chapter 145: Getting a Pair of Artifacts as Weapons
Golden rays of sunlight cut through the sky, catching the thick haze of dust that still hovered over the massive crater.
Titus walked with fast steps toward the side of the crater, his blue eyes looking down, trying to see through the cloud of dust.
His eyes slightly widened, and his face turned serious the moment he saw the man fully clad in metallic armor sitting cross-legged at the bottom of the crater.
He immediately bowed his head, showing a level of respect he hadn’t shown to any Witch he had encountered so far.
"Sir Arthas."
It was his first time seeing the man in his long life, but only one look was enough to recognize his dark armor, his long black hair falling like a cape down his back, and those sharp, intimidating features on his face.
If the Witch of the Rime-Blight was kind of like an idol among the Witches, then Arthas was the kind of godlike legendary figure among the Shadows.
A Shadow serving one of the Grand Witches.
He was one of the strongest men to have ever existed on these lands.
In a world ruled by women, he was a man feared and respected even among the Witches.
Hearing Titus call him, the man didn’t change his sitting position or stand up. He only raised his head a little and looked at him with his deep, dark eyes.
"I came to pick up a package."
Titus felt all his will suddenly break under that gaze, his body going weak.
It wasn’t that he was under a spell or anything, nor was he losing his composure like a teenage girl meeting her idol. The sheer psychological pressure coming from the man was simply enough to make his blood run cold.
Understanding what the package meant, he answered immediately.
"My Lady is on the way and is currently bringing him."
After hearing the answer, Arthas turned his head again, closed his eyes, and went back to waiting.
Titus wanted to show Winterborne hospitality by inviting him inside, but seeing how uninterested the man was in him, he had no choice but to simply wait there in silence, content to watch from a distance the person whose legends he had grown up hearing.
He only turned his attention away when he heard footsteps approaching from behind.
Celeste was coming toward them, holding Magna’s hand.
Titus immediately straightened his back and said, as if reporting.
"Sir Arthas is here."
Hearing the name, Celeste paused for a moment, her steps stopping only for a second before she continued walking with a nod.
She knew the one who had come from the Tower was a powerful Shadow, but she had never guessed it would be the Shadow of one of the 5 Grand Witches.
She glanced at Magna from the corner of her eye, looking pleased. ’It’s good they really care about him.’
Soon, the two of them walked near the crater, and she looked down into it.
Her eyesight wasn’t as sharp as Titus’ or Magna’s, but she could still make out the man sitting there and called out calmly.
"Are you the one here to take Magna to the Tower?"
She didn’t bow her head to greet him or soften her voice more than necessary.
This time, it was the opposite. Showing respect to a Witch, Arthas stood up and looked up at her, even bowing his head slightly to acknowledge her presence.
"Yes."
Celeste didn’t say anything to him. She turned to Magna instead and bent down, holding his face between both hands.
"He is Arthas, the Shadow of the Head of the Chamber of Spell Constructs."
Hearing the introduction, Magna felt quite excited. He already knew the Witch was one of the 5 most powerful Grand Witches, so her Shadow had to be considered one of the 5 most powerful men on this earth.
But that excitement quickly gave way to him wondering how exactly he was supposed to travel with the man all that way, since as far as he knew, the Tower was quite far away. His face fell into a frown.
While he was thinking that, Celeste asked. "Are you ready?"
"Yeah... probably," he answered, looking into her ice-blue eyes.
Celeste chuckled, understanding his concern from the slight frown on his face. "You will experience many things for sure. Just think of this as one of them."
After saying that, she gave him a kiss on the forehead and pulled him into a hug.
When she released him, Magna saw her slightly reddened eyes but kept quiet.
He would also be lying if he said he wasn’t feeling slightly down about separating from this woman, since she had by now become some kind of big sister, even a mother, to him.
Celeste looked at Titus, and the man instantly understood the implication and stepped forward.
While he walked, his frost armor started to materialize on him.
By the time he reached Magna, he was already fully clad in his frost armor except for his helmet.
Looking down at the boy, he smiled. "Kid, you are lucky."
He reached his hand to the side of his armor, into a small empty space, then pulled out 2 small blue objects, holding them out to him.
"What are these?" Magna asked excitedly, examining the objects.
They looked like 2 pieces of ice, feeling extremely cold, shaped like small swords.
Looking more closely, he could even see some writing engraved on them.
"Hold each one in one hand," Titus instructed. "Then just think you are holding 2 swords."
Magna did as he was told and held the 2 miniature sword figures in his hands. The moment he imagined he was holding 2 swords, the miniature figures suddenly started growing in his hands.
They gained mass until each one became a short sword similar to the ones he had been using on the training ground.
"Are they artifacts?" Magna asked quite excitedly.
Titus only laughed, looking satisfied by his reaction. Instead of answering his question, he said, "Now think they are bigger."
Magna immediately tried it, and the swords really got bigger and bigger in his hands until they became 2 greatswords.
Even their weight increased.
"Can they change shape?" Magna started imagining them as 2 spears before he got an answer.
To his surprise and awe, the swords really started changing shape, becoming 2 long spears in his hands.
He didn’t stop there. He kept thinking of other weapons too, changing their shape into 2 hammers, axes, maces, and even trying to change their shape into a pair of pistols.
He realized at that moment that they changed shape according to his imagination rather than simply switching between different weapons.
"What are those?" Titus and Celeste asked, growing quite curious when they saw the strange shapes.
"I don’t know. I just imagined them."
Realizing they had no knowledge of these kinds of weapons, Magna changed their shapes and mass again, making them smaller.
When they returned to their small-figure form, they didn’t change back into a sword shape but kept their pistol shapes.
He didn’t realize, however, that Arthas, still waiting patiently at the bottom of the crater, slightly raised an eyebrow when he saw the pistols.
