I'm the Only Magus in This Witch World
Chapter 132: Apparently, I Didn’t Die
’Am I dead?’ Magna thought, since that was the only thing he could do.
He wasn’t feeling his body anymore but only felt like his soul was floating in the darkness, back on the path to the reincarnation gates. Not that he had high hopes for a third chance at life to reincarnate.
The last thing he remembered was being killed by a crazy Witch.
He wasn’t actually that surprised. In fact, he was a little surprised that he had managed to survive this long in the first place.
’I guess I was pretty lucky so far,’ he let his soul drift through the endless darkness.
He had died and reincarnated once before, but that had happened quickly, as he opened his eyes in another world as a baby the moment he died in the previous one, so he didn’t consider himself very experienced with this. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ
But from what he thought he remembered reading in novels and watching in documentaries about people who came back from death, he should soon see some kind of light.
Then, eventually, he couldn’t be sure, but something in the darkness began to shift, and the area ahead seemed to be growing slightly brighter.
He also started to hear soft sounds, like someone breathing beside him.
Not long after, he even began to hear someone speaking.
’Who is that?’ he asked, though the answer that came back sounded badly distorted and echoing.
"A’e ’ou ..wake?"
The voice seemed to be asking him something.
Only after hearing the same question a few more times did he finally make out the words. ’You’re asking if I’m awake? Who are you?’
Magna looked into the darkness, trying to see who was speaking.
’Are you a god? An angel? A messenger?’ He tried to figure out what kind of being had come to guide his soul into eternity.
While he was trying to see through the darkness, a sudden burst of blinding light filled his eyes.
Not long after, the burst of light quickly began to fade, and he started to see blurry shapes in front of him.
’What is this?’ The blurry shape in front of his eyes reminded him of some kind of face.
’Blue eyes? Long yellow hair?’ He could start to make out the image now, as the blur quickly sharpened.
The voice had also grown clearer, much sharper than before.
"Are you awake? Can you see me?"
Magna finally recognized the voice, and the image also sharpened enough for him to make out who it was.
!Faye?’ He blinked in surprise. She was right above him, wearing her signature mischievous grin as she pulled his eyelids apart.
"If you’re awake, move your eyes. My mother said you won’t be able to move your body for a while."
Magna was stunned when he heard that.
’So I’m not dead?’ He still couldn’t move his body or feel any part of it, but since his hearing and sight had returned, he was definitely not dead.
He tried to move his eyes to give the girl a signal.
"Look, his eyes are really moving." Faye suddenly called out excitedly to someone beside her.
"Really?" Renna’s voice came, and then her face entered his vision. "You okay? Can you feel anything?"
Magna was about to say he couldn’t, but then he started to feel a heavy weight on his chest, not painful, but quite uncomfortable.
He didn’t need to think hard about what it was, since judging by the angle Faye was looking down at him from, she was probably sitting on his chest.
’Did no one ever teach this girl how you’re supposed to treat a patient?’ He could only wonder helplessly.
"Faye, give me the medicine. Lady Celeste said he needs to drink it as soon as he’s awake." Renna reached out an open hand.
"Ah, yes." Faye immediately hopped off his chest and down off the bed, walking over to look at the bowl on the table, filled with some sticky, foul-smelling liquid.
Since she was already experienced with this, she had her equipment ready, taking the gloves and the cotton balls from the table.
She put two of the cotton balls up her own nose, then the other two into Magna’s nose.
The moment Magna’s nose got blocked, since his mouth was already shut and he couldn’t move it, he suddenly found himself unable to breathe.
’Are you kidding me?’ Panic suddenly surged through him.
Thankfully, Renna was there to save him. "Are you stupid? Do you want to kill him?" She pulled the cotton balls out of his nose right away.
"But this smells really bad." Faye protested, wanting to protect Magna from the smell, but realizing breathing was more important, she accepted that he’d just have to endure the torture anyway.
"Say aaah." She scooped up a spoonful and brought it toward his mouth, while Renna held his mouth open for him.
Then Faye poured the contents of the spoon into his mouth.
Renna also lifted his head slightly, and since the medicine was soft enough to flow smoothly from his mouth straight down to his stomach, Magna didn’t face any risk of choking.
He also felt a warm energy filling his stomach, since the medicine contained mana, but it wasn’t anything worth paying much attention to, as his mana reserve had already reached a massive capacity.
Still, he called up his status panel to check his stat points, since he hadn’t had the time before to see how much they’d risen after his last training session with the maids.
Strength: 54 - 88
Agility: 37 - 53
Reaction: 34 - 48
Stamina: 111 - 155
Mana 15.2%
First of all, his mana wasn’t that high. His daily meals no longer had much effect on it, making his new mana regeneration trait his biggest source of gain.
As for his stats, his overall numbers had risen quite well, and his agility and reaction stats had also made great progress, showing that his fruit ninja game had really worked.
The most surprising part was how much his stamina and strength had risen.
He thought the high stamina increase was probably because of the near-death situation he’d gone through thanks to that unfamiliar Witch. And his strength, due to his heavy new weapons as well as his wrestling with that giant owl, must have had a big impact
He was getting system messages at that time informing him that his stats were rising, but he didn’t expect them to increase this much.
As he thought about her, he wanted to ask who that Witch really was. Thankfully, Renna seemed to have already guessed he’d ask, since she brought up the topic herself, almost as if reading his mind.
"I bet you’re curious who was the one who put you in this state."
Then she explained that she was the Witch who came from the Tower to check Faye’s trial as well as his worth and fighting capability.
’So that’s what that insignia was for.’ Magna remembered seeing the tower-shaped crest on her chest, though it hadn’t made much sense to him at the time.
The fact that he was fighting for his life was also a reason.
Another detail that caught his eye about her clothes was a single golden line around her hat.
He had seen a line like that before, back at the Winterborne cemetery. He wanted to ask about it, luckily, Faye jumped in as the talkative one, spilling every detail he could have possibly been curious about.
