I’m the Last Senju, and the Hokage Wants Me Dead!

Chapter 323 - 323: Uchiha Morning After Scorch Night

Pakura's residence was built into the mountain wall itself, a spacious suite shaped from smooth stone and gentle heat seals, always faintly warm to the touch.

Ryusei had designed it that way. She liked warmth. She liked light.

And she liked the high ground where she could see everything.

A fitting home for a woman who once walked alone through the deserts of Wind.

Ryusei felt her chakra before he even reached the door.

Calm. Focused. And simmering with that faint heat that always announced her before she spoke.

She had acclimated to Konoha surprisingly well.

Her room was filled with new scrolls, custom training equipment, a large window overlooking the village lights, and a private hot pool she claimed she needed for "chakra circulation," even though Ryusei knew she mostly used it to relax after nights he visited.

He didn't knock.

He opened the door with a gentle push of chakra.

Pakura looked up from a stack of reports on her low table, her short auburn hair tied back loosely, her eyes warming just a touch when they met his.

Just a touch, because she still tried to hide the rest.

"Back late," she said.

Ryusei stepped inside. "I had business with Nagato."

Pakura's eyebrow lifted slightly.

Ryusei smirked.

"You're not keeping score, are you?"

Pakura clicked her tongue and looked away.

"I'm not that childish."

The slight deepening of her blush said otherwise.

She had changed, he realized.

Not the core of her, Pakura was still controlled, sharp, proud, but she had softened in the weeks since he brought her here.

She had a full home now.

Real stability.

Training grounds built exactly for her style.

A vice commander's position.

Freedom.

Safety.

And him.

She didn't need to admit it aloud.

Her chakra told him everything.

"You've been adjusting well," Ryusei said as he glanced around her room.

"Of course I have," she replied, lifting her chin. "This place runs better than Suna ever did."

She paused. Then added, quietly:

"And you kept your promise… about giving us a permanent safe home."

Ryusei sat on the edge of her table, watching her carefully.

"You sound surprised."

"I'm not," she said, but her voice was softer now. "Just… aware of it."

She shifted slightly, her gaze flicking up to him again, then away.

"And you visit often enough," she muttered.

Ryusei tilted his head.

"Often enough?"

Pakura's eyes narrowed.

"You know what I mean."

He did.

She had gotten used to him being there, showing up at night without warning, sitting beside her while she trained, leaning over her shoulder while she wrote reports, or simply lying beside her in that oversized bed he insisted she take.

She pretended she didn't wait for him.

She absolutely waited for him.

Ryusei stepped closer, slow and deliberate.

Her warmth reached him before his shadow touched her. Scorch chakra was like a second heartbeat.

Pakura watched him approach, her composure cracking just slightly.

"You're late," she said again, quieter this time.

"I came," Ryusei replied.

"And now?"

He stopped in front of her.

"Now," he said, leaning down just enough for her breath to catch, "I visit properly."

Her cheeks colored with a heat unrelated to her kekkei genkai.

"…You're insufferable," she whispered.

"You like it."

She didn't deny it.

Not this time.

Her fingers brushed his sleeve first.

Hesitant.

Testing.

Inviting.

Ryusei's smirk deepened.

And the air warmed, slowly at first, then with that familiar rising intensity that always announced what came next between them.

He leaned in, close enough that she could feel his breath trace her lips—

And the lights in the room flickered with a faint pulse of chakra as the temperature rose another degree.

Pakura's voice lowered to a murmur.

"…Lock the door."

Ryusei's eyes glinted.

As you wish.

The door sealed with a soft click.

The rest blurred into heat and shadows.

...

Ryusei eventually slipped out of the mountain residence and appeared atop the Hokage Monument in a single quiet ripple of chakra, after a long night of rather intense "exercise."

Heat still clung faintly to his skin, the kind only Pakura ever left behind.

He exhaled once, letting the night wind cool the last traces of her chakra and sweat from his collar.

His expression didn't change much… but there was the faintest hint of a smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth.

"Scorch Release," he muttered dryly. "Lives up to the name."

Below him, the village lights flickered like embers. Ryusei stood there for a moment, hands in his pockets, staring down at the rooftops.

Pakura's temper, her pride, the way she grabbed him when she lost patience;Yeah, it matched her element perfectly.

He didn't mind it.

He liked it.

...

Ryusei moved as a whisper through the Uchiha district next.

In truth, no clan benefited more from Ryusei's victory than the Uchiha.

They prospered overnight. Their elders walked with pride instead of caution, and for the first time in decades, they were firmly on the right side of history, unlike in that other world, where they perished within a few tragic years.

Ryusei had already met the great elder Nobukata, Kiyomi's grandfather.

The old man looked at him with a reverence bordering on worship… and with the pride of someone greeting a future grandson-in-law blessed by heaven itself.

Meanwhile, the first light of morning was only beginning to touch the rooftops, and the entire clan compound slept, except for one chakra he knew very well.

Kiyomi's.

He slipped through her balcony, of the grandest residence, like a breeze, sealing the air behind him so even the patrol two houses away didn't feel a thing.

Kiyomi was awake.

Sitting on her bed, legs folded beneath her, hair still loose from sleep, brushing it in front of the mirror.

She didn't look surprised when he appeared in her reflection.

She did narrow her eyes.

"…You smell like fire," she said coolly.

Ryusei blinked once. "Do I?"

"Pakura," she muttered, clicking her tongue. "You went to her first."

A typical Uchiha response.

Possessive

Sharp.

Not angry, just staking a claim the way all strong Uchiha did.

Ryusei walked over, placing a hand lightly on her shoulder.

"You're jealous."

"I am not."

He raised an eyebrow. "Your eyes are spinning."

She shut them immediately, annoyed.

"Shut up. And stop smirking."

"Then stop being jealous."

Kiyomi glared up at him. "I'm not jealous. I'm… establishing order."

A classic Uchiha line if there ever was one.

Ryusei sat beside her, leaning back on one hand.

"You're part of the order."

"I am more than that," she said quietly.

There it was: the Uchiha nature.

Pride wrapped in insecurity.

Desire sharpened into possessiveness.

She looked away.

"You accept a… group around you. Fine. I accepted that part of you long ago."

Ryusei touched her cheek, turning her slightly back toward him.

Her voice lowered. "But I refuse to be second to anyone. So tell me… at the very least, am I the main wife?"

Ryusei brushed a thumb along her cheek, a small smirk forming.

"Not you. At least… not for that title. And you outrank that in a different way."

Kiyomi blinked, the words hitting her harder than she expected.

Not with anger, more with a sharp, jealous sting, she tried and failed to hide.

Her fingers curled slightly against his cloak.

"…Outrank it?" she muttered, eyes narrowing. "You're infuriating."

But she didn't pull away.

She leaned in closer instead, searching his expression with a mix of pride, doubt, and that quiet, stubborn longing she hated admitting.

After a breath:

"…Then who carries that title?"

Ryusei didn't hesitate. "Tsunade."

Her chakra flickered, sharp and cold for a second, but she stayed silent.

"It's not just affection," he continued. "It's heritage. I need to rebuild the Senju. And she's the only Senju woman left who fits that role. She helped me the most, taught me the most. Sacrificed the most for me out of you all. You know that."

Kiyomi clenched her jaw, then slowly exhaled.

"…She did."

Ryusei's voice softened just slightly.

"You're not being replaced, Kiyomi. You already know you're irreplaceable."

Her shoulders loosened, just a little.

"Tch," she muttered. "Your words are too smooth."

"You like them smooth."

She glared. "I'll kill you."

"You probably won't."

A reluctant smile tugged at the corner of her lips, brief and soft.

"…Fine," she murmured. "Tsunade can have the title. I don't need it."

Her hand slid up and grabbed his collar gently.

"But don't forget, Senju or not, I won't let anyone push me aside."

Ryusei leaned forward, forehead touching hers.

"I'd like to see someone try."

Kiyomi closed her eyes, finally relaxing into him.

"…Good," she whispered. "Then stay. For a little while."

Ryusei stayed.

Kiyomi lifted her head slightly, studying him with that familiar mixture of irritation and desire she never managed to hide around him.

Her fingers were still curled in his collar, but now they softened, sliding lower, tracing the line of his chest as if confirming he was really there.

"…You shouldn't be this calm," she muttered.

"Why not?"

"Because I'm still annoyed."

"You don't sound annoyed."

Her Sharingan flickered on instinct, three tomoe spinning once before she forced them still.

A faint blush touched her ears.

"Shut up," she whispered.

Ryusei's hand rose to her jaw, tilting her face a little toward him.

Not demanding.

Just guiding.

Enough to make her breath catch.

"You came here after Pakura," she accused, voice tighter than she intended.

Ryusei smirked. "You're still thinking about that?"

"I'm thinking about many things."

He leaned in just enough for his breath to brush her lips.

"Then stop thinking."

Her glare returned, sharp, flustered, beautiful.

"Don't give me orders," she snapped softly, even as her body leaned closer on its own. "I hate how you do that."

"But you listen anyway."

"That's not—"

He slid a hand behind her neck.

Her words froze.

Kiyomi closed her eyes for a moment, gathering her composure… and losing it just as quickly.

Her fingers clenched in his clothes again, pulling him closer in one quick, annoyed, helpless motion.

"…You're infuriating," she whispered, "and I hate how much I want you."

"Good," Ryusei said.

She opened her eyes, breath unsteady.

"Good?" she repeated.

He nodded once, slow, deliberate.

Then he shifted his hand from her jaw…

guiding her downward by the chin, gentle but unmistakable.

Kiyomi froze, not resisting, just startled.

Her cheeks went scarlet.

"…You—" she began, voice shaking between anger and excitement.

"You said you didn't want to be second," Ryusei murmured. "So show me."

Her pulse spiked; he could feel it under his fingers.

"I hate you," she breathed.

"You don't."

She swallowed hard, trembling for a half-second, not from fear.

From decision.

Her Sharingan flickered again, faint and glowing, before she lowered her gaze… and let him guide her further.

Her pride fought it and lost.

"…If you tell anyone," she whispered, "…I'll kill you."

Ryusei's smirk widened.

"You probably won't."

Kiyomi muttered something furious under her breath, then, cheeks burning, let herself sink the rest of the way, the morning light catching her blush as she moved between his knees.

She glared up at him one last time, pride warring with the pull between them, then her fingers finally tightened on him, as Ryusei's hand slid casually into her hair, guiding her the rest of the way.

No more words passed between them.

Just the quiet, inevitable surrender of her pride, a soft gasp as she gave in, and her feeling the warmth of his approval.

She was still in her sleeveless nightgown, sunlight brushing her bare shoulders, as the world narrowed to the hush of her breath, quick, uneven, each one growing deeper and more unsteady as she moved.

The rhythm of her breathing was muffled and quickened with every motion, trembling somewhere between resistance and want.

As the scene faded, there was only the certainty that, in this moment, Kiyomi would never let anyone take her place.
